I nodded at my Goddess, my eyes instinctively dropping towards the ground just as they did every time I faced my mother after that day, bracing for the inevitable pain of her verbal dismissal of desire for my continued life after losing hers in the fire, quietly uttering my confession, “My mother, Callisto…she couldn’t forgive me for my father’s sacrifice of his life for mine. His death took away her reason for living. I tried to earn her forgiveness and regain her love, but sadly, to no avail. I always made sure, however, that she was well taken care of, even when she disowned me and banished me from our home…never wanting to see me again.”
