Teddy’s POV
‘Melody! Melody!’ I couldn’t get through to her through the link, making my insides knot in worry as I fought my way to the hospital. The rogues were starting to thin out now, someone having torn through ahead of me and leaving behind a trail of viscera.
‘My King; Melody’s in a critical state right now, the Doctor is rushing her to operation.’ Jude linked, the worry in her voice making burst on more speed.
‘What happened?! Did the rogue’s get her?!’ I ripped the throat out of the last one, shifting into my human side just as I reached the hospital door. Thank Goddess my father had a safe room in the house. My mother had gotten all the women and children in there as soon as Axel raised the Alarm, and I could hear her through the family link calming all the children and mothers.
‘Hemorrhaging, sir. She was moved too soon after giving birth. Working on her now; but I’m closing the link to focus.’ I was glad we had brought along our own doctor, but knowing Melody was in a life threatening state had me in a panic.
The halls were covered in blood and viscera as I made my way deeper into the small hospital; one room even having a wolf torn in half. When I got to Melody’s room, there were bodies piled everywhere. ‘Where’s my baby?!’ I asked in a panic, not seeing anyone in the room at all.
“We’re down here!” Jude called from a few rooms down, a light on in a new room.
I jogged over there, almost slipping on pools of blood under me. When I got to the door, I could see my father wrapped halfway in a hospital towel holding my baby. “Took ya long enough son.” He mumbled, his large finger being held on tightly by my little baby’s hand. It looked like all three of them had just had a fresh shower, no blood or c*****e left in the room. I could see that someone even got a mop bucket to wipe up anything that was trailed from the door.
“Father.” Him being here explained all of the bloodshed then, his fighting being something no lowly rogue could ever hope to match. I was irked that he had been on his way to see his new grandchild, but thanked the Goddess he did. There was no telling what would have happened if he hadn’t thinned out all the rogues who had gotten in.
“Melody’s gonna be fine.” Jude ushered me into the restroom, turning on the water to full heat as I grabbed a bar of soap. “The doctor’s the best there is, and she’s a fighter.”
“How serious is it though?” I winced in the hot spray, red pooling off of me and splashing on the walls. When June didn’t look me in the eyes, my heart caught in my throat.
“Some of the placenta hadn’t come out all the way. It tore her up pretty good and all; especially since she moved too soon. To be honest, a moment longer and she would have bled to death.”
My face went white at that, the thought of losing my Melody so soon after just marrying her something I couldn’t even fathom. “Do you think this would have been prevented if we didn’t come?” We had only come to my parent’s for the Samhain Festival, something Melody had been planning with my mother for months now.
“Every pregnancy is different, but I really blame the rogues attacking when they did. I nor the doctor had done a thorough check of her yet.” Jude looked at me apologetically as she handed me a towel, all the blood washed from my body.
“I should have tripled the security; especially after everything.” I grumbled as I went over to my father, holding out my arms for my daughter.
“Pha; if bastards want to cause problems, they’ll cause problems. If anything; use this as an opportunity to strike back.” My father reluctantly handed over Lucy, the little baby no bigger than a football in either of our hands. “Everyone loves your mate, so turn that against the rogues.”
My father had a point; something to really consider when dealing with the problem at hand. “I’ll consider it.” I nodded, already deciding that a new law would have to be enacted, something to be Melody’s and My first edict as rulers.
Knock, knock.
A nurse was at the door, her face wary and pale. The rogue attack was unexpected; raking out almost half the staff here as more wounded were rushed in for help. “The Doctor is finished with the Queen, my King.” She looked around the hall, jumping slightly when something fell in the distance. “He will have Melody out in no time. Should be about twenty minutes or so.’
“Any complications?” I hated asking it, but I needed the know. Tension through the pack link was all I felt though as Jude took her time in answering.
Her face tilted down then, her gaze remaining on the floor. “It was hard, but he was able to stop the bleeding and patch her up. There were factors to consider and her healing did not help while she was under. She’ll need bed rest and blood for today to replenish her own.”
“Anything else?” She was still not looking at me, tears escaping her eyes as she continued on.
“W-we don’t think it will be possible for her to have more pups, my King. Due to the tearing and the hemorrhaging, the scarring will be too great for her to heal correctly.”
At the news, my world came crashing down. “No.” All the plans for our future family, gone in the blink of an eye. “Where’s she?! I need to see her!” The nurse nodded at me as she lead the way out of the room, leading me down the hall as my father and June followed. Axel linked me about something, but I blocked him out; the stress currently circling through my head being too much to handle at the moment.
When we entered an untouched room, Melody had just been rolled in by two other staff; her eyes scrunching at the bright light overhead as I sat down and took her hand into mine.
