I slowly regain consciousness and find that the parents are looking around the room frantically. At first, I thought it was because I passed out, but the speed with which parent Anna yanks my arm and gets me to my feet tells me that it’s something else. Slowly, I become aware of the alarms blasting from the speakers in the corridors, calling us into action as they alert us to some unknown danger.
“What’s going on?” I whispered, feeling frail, weak and fearful.
“We need to get you to safety,” says parent Kimberely, widening her eyes at parent Anna as though confirming a plan. Then she gestures for us to follow her.
