* * * Hayden’s POV * * * “Rise and shine, handsome lad. It’s time to move,” she croaks through my doorway. My mind is still half asleep as I stare a few moments, searching for her name. “Good morning, Angela,” I yawn and then stretch out my limbs. “Morning? Where have you been, laddie? It’s the afternoon,” she replies, stepping in with a tin mug and bowl. The hours seem to pass much quicker in the Deep. There’s no natural light down here, “It’s impossible to tell when the day ends and the night begins down here,” I say as I sip the water, using my lips to filter the few leaves they use for flavour. “Daytime or nighttime, it doesn’t matter down here, Hayden.
