Doomsday

1069 Words
Days have passed and I am doing well at my school. There are subjects that I don't really get easily but I'm getting there. Sophia and I will always help each other. "Have you chosen your song?" Sophia asked. It's our break time and we are sitting on the bench right now enjoying our food. I shook my head. "I still can't decide." "What do you think suits me? Ariana or Demi?" I looked at her. Two different singers.  "I think Halsey..." She stopped. "Really? You think so?" "You asked me." I shrugged. I haven't decided on what to sing yet. I have a lot in mind that it's making it so hard to choose one.  And the way I disobeyed Dad is still bugging me up now. What I did was so wrong. But what else can I do? "Hey..." I felt Sophia's hand caressing mine.  "What?" "It's all going to be fine, okay?" she said. "Don't over think too much. As long as they don't know, everything will be okay." "What if they-" "Stop!" she suddenly yelled. "Just stop. That's why you think a lot, because you always think about it. Just stop, okay? Rest your mind and choose a song. You only have a day to decide." I sighed heavily. We only have a few more days before our graduation. I looked up at the sky. What will happen to me after I graduated? Should I look for a job?  I will face adulthood. College life is now gone and I need to handle all my real life struggles.  I actually wanted to earn and separate from my parents. I wanted to live my life alone without hearing their dilemma on me. I wanted my life peacefully and just...me. But how can I when I don't even know how to live independently? "Should we rehearse later?" Sophia uttered. "What for?" "For the contest, of course, you dummy." "Where would we rehearse?" "We can do it in your house or in my house." I shook my head. "Mom won't allow me to go out and we can't rehearse at my house. They would now." "Tss. Just tell them we have an upcoming project!" I winced. "The school is almost over, So." "Last project!" "They wouldn't believe it. They will find it suspicious and might let me bring a guard with me." She crossed her arms above her chest aggressively. "I'm getting annoyed at your parents." "You are already annoyed at them from the very start," I said, giggling.  We spent our school hours smoothly. There was not much work to do since the school year will end a few days from now. Professors just wanted our late and undone works submitted for plus points. I do have low grades from my work, but what matters now is I am complete.  Sophia and I met after school to see the venue. The contest will be held inside the campus in the gymnasium. We have a huge gym and they all used every space for the contest and also for the graduation day too.  "Should we take a look?" Sophia asked as we walked together. Her hands are circling around my arm and she keeps on jumping. "Stop jumping!" "I'm excited!" "Tss. You are saying that now but you will be very nervous at the event!" She stopped and rolled her eyes at me. "You're so mean!" "Just stop, okay? My arm is about to go off." She made a face. "Rude." We went to the gym. Many students are also taking peak of the layouts. There are so many backdrops and props. Even on the ceiling. A lot of lighting and they are also working on the speakers already.  "Everything is ready..." says So. "The only question is...are we ready?" "I am ready." She glanced at me. "Are you?" I immediately shook my head. "I'm not." "It is all going to be okay. I can actually feel that we will win this." My brow shot up in a tired way. "Only one can win the trophy, Sophia." "Oh, really?" I rolled my eyes. She's really annoying at times.  "We will graduate soon," she suddenly said. I stared at the stage. A memory pops out of my mind. "Emily Chantria Williams!" the teacher who had a mic said.  Everyone clapped as a little Emily walked up onto the stage. She stood there and waited for someone to stand beside her. The crowd and so were the teachers started murmuring in front and behind her.  "Emily, sweetheart, didn't your parents attend your moving up?" my teacher asked. I just stared at her and understood what was happening. It was my high school moving up and none of my parents showed up.  I was wearing the medals I achieved and holding the certificate they gave me. I stood there looking at everyone with no humor. Acting like I didn't understand what was happening when it was really clear to me.  "Emily. Emily..." They were calling my name but I didn't move. They told me that I should go down the stage but I didn't flinch. They called for my parents but they didn't show.  I was alone... From the very beginning, I had my first success. I was with no one.  "Emily! Emi!" I blinked thrice and I was snapped out of my reminiscing moment when I felt Sophia hitting my shoulder with her book. "A-aw! It hurts!" I hissed. "Ha! It's my fault? What's wrong with you? I keep on talking here and you were zoned out? Did you even hear a word I said?" "W-what were y-you saying?" She hit me again. "I knew it! You weren't listening!" "S-stop! I'm sorry!" "What were you thinking? Really, tell me. Is it still bugging you?" "N-no." I looked away. "Nothing. It was nothing." "Tell me! There is something!" She was about to hit me again, so I moved away. "Stop that!" "What is it? Tell me!" "I'm just...I'm just hungry. Should we go eat?" She pouted. "Are you really just hungry?" I nodded and held my stomach with my hands and I stroked them gently like I was really hungry. "I'm hungry." "Okay. Let's go!" I laughed when I realized that she believed my lies. She pulled me with her and we went to a restaurant. It was a wonderful day to spend with her, not until the nightmare happened.  Doomsday
