"Miss Emily Williams!"
I almost jumped from where I was standing when Mr. Miller calld me.
I greeted them with a huge smile plastered on my face. He remembers my name!
"Mr. Miller," I greeted back.
We shake hands. I realized that we were in the meeting room. Or a more likely one. There was a long table in the middle and on its side were countless chairs. There was also a board and behind it was the glass wall where everyone could see the beautiful view this building could give.
"I'm glad you came. We were waiting for you," he said.
I was moved by what he said. I mean...they are all waiting for me?
I roamed my gaze around. There were nine people including us. Three more men and three women. They are all in suits and they look so elegant.
"Take a seat, Miss Williams," says one of the women.
I am nervous and confused at the same time. I walked towards my seat quietly. Mr. Miller's son was the one sitting in front of me and the way he stared made me feel intimidated.
I am sitting with the professionals!
"I've seen Miss Williams participate in school activities and I heard her sing. I have also heard that you are quite good, Miss Williams."
I blushed. "N-not really, sir."
"A humble one," says another woman. She smiled at me and she seemed friendly. "And so pretty."
"What do you do in life, Miss Williams?"
"I just graduated from college three days ago. Now, I am...here, I guess?"
Some of them giggled and some smiled. I feel so nervous and my hands are shaking under the table. They just couldn't see. I feel like being questioned by people I don't know and in a place I also don't know.
Nevertheless, the feeling is surreal. I feel something nice will happen. This is just new to me that I feel indifferent.
"What are your plans, then?"
"To be honest, I was actually waiting for the MNM to open up an audition and I was planning on trying it out."
"Oh, what a very nice fate it is," Mr. Miller uttered.
"You see, Miss Williams. The contest held four days ago was co-operated by the MNM," a man said, shocked. I didn't know that. "There were three universities that we also collaborated at and one of your former schools was chosen."
"Aside from having a public audition, Mr. Miller wanted to try something new by selecting a student for training."
My eyes widened more. Training? That means I will train for the MNM?
"And you were selected."
I covered my mouth. "OMG, wait. I'm so sorry. I can't process it."
They all smiled at me. I know I look like a terrible fangirl now, but I just can't take it! Butterflies are getting wild within me. I can't control the happiness I'm feeling.
"D-does that mean I will train here?"
Mr. Miller nodded. "You will, if you can."
The team nodded too. "You seem fair. I love humble kids. I would concede if you show us what you can do."
"We still need to see your vocals and refinements through a minor personal audition so we would know your character and to know how long you will need to be trained."
I nodded. Finally, understanding what's going to happen.
"Is it fine with you, Miss Williams?"
"Yes. It's all good. Totally fine."
Mr. Miller smiled. "It's a deal then. We have a new trainee."
They all stood up to shake hands with me. I answered all of them with a never ending thank you. I didn't know that this could happen in my life. This was such an easy way. Though, not really easy. But this is a huge opportunity for someone like me. Plus, they will give me a special audition just for me!
"We will talk about things later on after our meeting. Elijah, why won't you take Miss Williams for a walk?"
Mr. Miller's son bowed to him. "All right."
I followed him as I waved my hands to the others. I exhaled deeply. That was a close shot! This is good news, but a part of it still can't be processed with my dumb mind.
I closed my eyes and thought of the things that were happening. But then shock filled me when I realized who I am with. I looked up just to see the back of the guy in front of me. We are inside the elevator.
I remained quiet the whole time. He never speaks either. He was just leading the way, not even minding me. I think if I stopped following him, he wouldn't even notice.
"What do you want to see?" He suddenly stopped from walking.
I was busy glaring at his back so that I didn't know he'd stopped, so I almost bumped into his back!
He turned to me. "What are you doing?"
I smiled awkwardly. "N-nothing. I was..." I glanced everywhere. "Looking at the view."
He looked around too with his lips in a grim line.
"What view?"
It was like I was shot and came back to reality. I saw...no sight. We are in some area right now where there are some cubicles where some people are working. I bit my lower lip.
"T-them! Aren't they fun to watch?" I even laughed.
He just stared at me like I was some crazy woman. I closed my eyes tightly when he turned around and I almost slapped my face. What an embarrassment, Emily.
"Sir Elijah!" A lady stopped us.
I looked at her from head to toe. She looks pretty. Her skin is fair and we have the same height. She seems like my age.
"Mariel," Elijah uttered.
"Is the meeting done? I heard the seniors will be having a meeting."
"It's still on-going. I was asked to show her the company." He glanced at me and so the girl did it too.
"Oh, who is she?"
"She's a new trainee. Emily, this is Mariel. She's a trainee."
I nodded. Mariel bubbly smiled at me and offered her hand.
"Nice to meet you! My name is Mariel."
Not that I hear that.
I smiled a little and shook her hand. "Emily."
"I'm a bit confused." She faced Elijah again but this time, pouting. "Does the impending audition already started? Why didn't I know that?"
Elijah chuckled and patted her head. I was moved once again.
"She was from a university. The recent project. Heard about that?"
"Ah! Yes! I get it now."
"We should go, then. So it'll be done early."
My brow shot up. He wants it done as soon as possible? Why? Is he tired of walking? He hasn't even shown me a place yet.
"Alright. Take care!" She smacked my shoulder a bit. "It's nice to meet you, newbie."
I followed Elijah again. It's clear that he's older than me, but just a bit, I'm sure. And he seems like a senior somehow. But I don't know how to address him, so I will stick with Elijah.
We went to so many hallways. There are a lot of people greeting him side by side. He would only smile at them and sometimes wave. He doesn't really look like a cold one. He seems approachable.
"This is the training room," he said. "For the new ones...like you."
We went inside. They were girls and boys practicing in the room. It was huge with no things in the middle that could ruin a person. There were only big speakers and a reflector that covered the whole wall from one side.
My mouth circled as my eyes widened and I looked up to him. "I'm not a dancer."
I said when I realized that this room is for doing dances. Those girls and boys were sweating and I could tell that they were about to be done with whatever they were doing, which I can say is a dance.
Elijah giggled a little like he was at fault. "Oh, I forgot. Sorry, Mariel was a dancer so...it slipped my mind."
I chuckled uncomfortably and sarcastically. Is that something I'm interested in knowing? I wanted to say that.
We went to another room not far from where the dancers' room is. Now my eyes have broadened to a shock that I consider magically shock. It was the recording studio!
"I-it's so beautiful," I muttered.
This is my first time seeing such a studio. I wanted to build one in our house but surely Mom wouldn't agree to it.
"The room behind is also a studio. Do you want to see it?"
I looked back to face him. He was only staring at me, being delighted by what I was seeing with his hands hiding behind his pockets.
I nodded. "S-sure."
As planned, we went into the room beside the recording studio and, to my surprise, it was another huge and spacious room but without a mirror and with a bunch of instruments. You can easily tell the difference between the room of dancers and the room of musicians.
"This is so amazing!" I said and I still can't believe what I'm seeing. This is a dream come true.
I saw a guitar on the floor. I know how to play a guitar a little! I walked towards it and it was a big mistake.
"Don't go-"
"Ah!"
I didn't get to hear him clearly when I already stumbled on the floor. There was water everywhere and there was even signage saying, "Flood. Do not walk." I didn't see it.
Elijah walked towards me and was about to help me by pulling my arm when his feet slipped into the water and fumbled along with me.
"Ahh!" I screamed in shock and together with it was a noise coming from the door.
"What is this I'm witnessing?" says a voice I don't know who.
Mine widened as well as Elijah's when our eyes met. That's when we realized what our position was. He was on top of me!
"O-oh my God!" I screamed, which made him blink and immediately went up.
"D-damn." I heard him whisper.
"What is that all about?" I turned to the female leaning on the door. She looks old but still elegantly professional.
"Mrs. Faw, it's not what you're thinking-"
"And what am I thinking, Mr. Elijah?"
Elijah didn't speak. Me too, because I don't who she is and I don't know what to say.
"Two young birds alone in a room." The one he called Mrs. Faw shook her head.
Our eyes widened more.
"It's not what you really think!"
"You have the wrong thought!"
We both said in sync. We turned to each other and rolled our eyes.
Mrs. Faw laughed. "Fix yourselves. The younger generations are coming."
And she left us. It was an awkward moment for the two of us. I couldn't speak until noises filled the room. Ladies and men are walking inside. Talking and laughing with each other. They stopped when they saw us.
"Oh! Elijah!" a guy yelled.
"What are you doing here, senior?"
He glanced at me and looked away again. Everyone then turned to me.
"Are you the newbie Mariel was talking about?" a girl asked.
"Anyway, I was looking for you, dude!" Someone pushed Elijah to sit. "Sit down and hear out my new song."
"Hey, take a seat too." They gave me a seat beside Elijah's.
They were all in front of us. Two of them took a guitar and started strumming.
I almost jumped on my seat when I felt Elijah's fingers brush a little on my hand. When I looked at him beside me, he was shocked too, like it was something he didn't expect to happen.
"I-im sorry," he said.
The strum of the guitar stopped.
We were sitting side by side, staring at each other. Everything that had happened was weird enough to think of. But now I get to see his features clearly. His skin was fair but mine was whiter. He has a pointed nose and pinkish lips. His hair was in a clean cut so that made his features more defined. And lastly, to the one I'm staring at, his eyes. His dark ocean eyes. It seems serious when he doesn't talk, but he smiles when he talks.
He is someone that is hard to tell.
