Graduation day

1153 Words
I said to myself that I shouldn't let my hopes out. I sighed heavily, looking outside the window inside my room. I am now wearing the dress Mom gave me and I did my own make-up. Today is my graduation day. "Mom?" I knocked on the door. "What is it?" she said from inside. I felt so hesitant to say it thinking of the past, but I still did. "Today is my graduation day."  There was no response from her for a whole minute until the door opened. Mom stared at me with a serious look.  "I can't go, I'm busy. Tell the driver to drive you off." I gulped and looked away. I feel disappointed but also thought that this is way better than what happened four years ago. At least now she said to me face to face that she's really busy. "O-okay. I understand." Mom nodded. "Where did you get that dress?" I was so stunned at her sudden question that I looked up at her with wide eyes. She glanced at me from head to foot. "I...uh...I bought it." She stared at me. "It's beautiful. Go now." I nodded unconsciously. Biting my lower lip, I walked away. "You bought it for me," I whispered to myself. After my confrontation with Amelia yesterday at school, I ran home. That's why I don't have any idea as to what happened in the contest. If I ever won, they should have contacted me, right? But they didn't, so that only means I didn't win.  I cried myself out yesterday and it made me fall asleep. I was only disturbed by the loud continuous knock on the door. I opened the door still half awake, but my eyes widened in anger when I saw Amelia standing in front of me with a box in her hands.  "What?" I asked. "Mom said you should wear that tomorrow." She handed me the box. It was a huge white box and printed on its cover was the name of a branded shop. "I'm on council, so I will be there. I'm just saying so it won't shock you anymore," she said coldly and walked away. I gritted my teeth in annoyance. She already graduated last year but Mom made her still part of the student council until the school launched a modeling program that collaborates with other countries such as the U.S. It happened a long time ago and Mom is waiting for it to happen again. I stared at my dress that I am now wearing. Mom bought me something she doesn't even know. I giggled sarcastically. What a joke. The designs for the contest yesterday weren't removed for today's ceremony. They just added a little theme to make it look like a graduation-themed party. "You are late." I turned to my side to find the voice. "And you are early." "This is a special day, of course. Come on! Let's get you your gown!" Sophia exclaimed. Sitting on the chair with your graduation gown feels like the end of everything. Singing the last song you will sing inside the campus with everybody who feels the same way as you is a different kind of noise.  "Emily Chantria Williams." Standing when you hear your name being called to get onto the stage and hold onto your diploma that you've been waiting for. Smile at it as the camera clicks. "Congratulations to us!" Sophia uttered beside me. She was crying. I laughed and hugged her. "Congratulations!" "I can't believe we have finally got to graduate!" I laughed more when I saw how her make-up smudged because of the endless tears coming out from her eyes. "Stop! You look ridiculous!" "It won't stop." She keeps on wiping them out, but yeah, they won't stop. I laughed at her and helped her out. "I'm so proud of you," she said. I smiled at her. She really is one of the most precious people to me in this world. "I am proud of you too." Thousands of students were called before the whole ceremony ended by giving us our diplomas. Our valedictorian made an outstanding ending speech which made some of the students cry.  Music began to make some noises as we all gathered in front to throw all our headdresses. "Happy graduation to us!" Sophia yelled. "Happy graduation!" I was laughing the whole time. It was such a fun moment. Negative thoughts never cross my mind because I made everything clear to myself. Right now, I don't really care if none of my family shows up. This is about me.  "Miss Emily Williams?" Sophia and I turned to our classmates when we heard them speak behind us. There are men in suits and they all look very professional. "Yes, sir?" I spoke. "Mr. Miller here wants to speak with you," he uttered, smiling. My mouth circled slowly when I got to familiarize the name. "M-miller? F-from MNM E-entertainment?" I asked, shocked. Our teacher smiled at me and nodded.  "They were one of our audience yesterday and they would like to know about you." Mr. Miller offered his hand and I held it politely. "It's nice to meet you, Miss Williams." "G-good afternoon, sir. I've heard a lot about you." He chuckled. "I'll be glad to hear things about you too." I smiled widely. I felt Sophia pinching me. I know, sis. In front of us is none other than the Millers who own one of the biggest and successful companies in the country.  "Would you accept our invitation?" Mr. Miller asked me. "I-invitation?" At times like this, I should be very professional and good. I wanted to punch myself for being such a fangirl and dumb. "Invitation, Miss Williams." He handed me a piece of card. Written there was the company building under his name. "We will be glad to see you at the company." I still can't believe it. I roamed my eyes at them. There are so many bodyguards and it was hard to tell who the professionals are too. I just know a guy beside him. He looks young and virtuous. "Right, Miss Williams?" I blinked and turned to my teacher. What? "Y-yes! Yes, sir!" He smiled at me. "She is one of the brightest vocals on our campus, Mr. Millers." "Do we still need to ask your parents about it?" Mr. Miller said. Sophia interrupted us. She was even shaking her head fast. "No, no. You see, Emily is supported by her parents so badly that they let her do whatever she wants." Mr. Miller beamed at her. "No problem, then. It's nice to finally meet you, Miss Williams." We shook hands again. "Thank you, sir." I didn't notice that I was smiling so broadly even when they turned their backs on me. One glimpse of the young guy they were with, my smile faded. Tss. Whatever.  This is the start of being me.
