Helen had her hands clapped over her ears, and even Iggy was lying on the floor with his head between his paws, and his ears flattened down along his head. The drum beat, if you could call it that, had begun about half an hour ago and slowly built in intensity from then on. There was no discernible rhythm to the beat and Lee thought the kids had to be using whatever they could lay their hands on to create that awful noise, but if its intent was to unsettle Lee and the others, then it was working.
