They ran. They simply kept their heads down and ran, sprinting for safety. Like animals, they weren’t running for something or to somewhere they were just running away from the school. From the horrors of what they had seen, of what waited for them if they were caught again and taken back. Despite being the youngest and the smallest, Emily kept up with Daniel and Nuo. They dashed between houses and through overgrown gardens thick with strange plants and chirruping insects.
