A Kingdom In Shadows
The kingdom of Ardenia stood as a beacon of prosperity and grandeur, its walls adorned with tales of valor and glory. But beneath the facade of splendor lurked shadows of treachery and deceit, threatening to engulf the realm in darkness. Prince Ingvar Fox, a boy of fifteen winters, once revealed in the tales of heroes and knights that echoed through the halls of his father's castle. But on this fateful day, the echoes turned into cries of agony as the kingdom came under siege. The once serene skies were now filled with the thunderous roars of war, and the air was heavy with the scent of impending doom. From the confines of his chambers, Ingvar watched in horror as the enemy forces breached the mighty gates, their banners bearing the insignia of the Kingdom of the East. His father, King Regulus, led the defense with a grim determination, his eyes ablaze with the fire of defiance. Beside him stood Queen Elara, her regal demeanor masking the fear that gripped her heart. As the battle raged on, Ingvar could feel the ground tremble beneath him, each tremor a reminder of the fragile peace that now hung in the balance. With every clash of swords and cry of pain, the illusion of invincibility shattered, leaving behind a stark reality of vulnerability. Outside his window, the once vibrant gardens now lay trampled and desolate, mirroring the chaos that reigned within the kingdom. Ingvar clenched his fists, his heart torn between the duty to his kingdom and the instinct to flee from the impending c*****e. As the battle raged on, Ingvar felt a surge of adrenaline mixed with fear coursing through his veins. The sounds of clashing steel and desperate cries filled the air, drowning out all other noise. He clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white as he struggled to make sense of the chaos unfolding before him. With each passing moment, the defenses of Ardenia weakened, the once impenetrable walls now breached by the relentless onslaught of the enemy forces. Ingvar's heart sank as he witnessed the fall of his kingdom piece by piece, like a tapestry unraveling before his eyes. As the battle reached its c****x, a sudden silence descended upon the battlefield, the only sound echoing through the air being the heavy breaths of exhausted warriors. Ingvar's gaze swept across the devastation, his heart heavy with grief and despair. Beside him, Pier stood stoically, his eyes reflecting a mixture of determination and sorrow. The loyal courtier had been by Ingvar's side since childhood, a constant source of guidance and support. But even Pier's unwavering loyalty could not shield them from the harsh realities of defeat. With a heavy heart, Ingvar turned away from the scene of devastation, his mind racing with thoughts of what lay ahead. The enemy forces had overrun the kingdom, their banners now flying high atop the walls of Ardenia. The once proud citizens were now prisoners in their own land, their freedom stripped away in an instant. But amidst the despair, a flicker of defiance ignited within Ingvar's heart. He refused to accept defeat.Clutching the royal family seal tightly in his hand, Ingvar vowed to reclaim his kingdom and restore hope to the people of Ardenia. The battle had taken its toll, both on the kingdom and on Ingvar's spirit. As the dust settled and the cries of war faded, Ingvar surveyed the devastation, his mind racing with memories of happier times. Pier, his loyal courtier, approached him with a somber expression. "Your Highness, we must leave. It's not safe here," he urged, his voice tinged with concern. Ingvar nodded, tearing his gaze away from the remnants of the battlefield. "Lead the way," he commanded, his voice steady despite the turmoil within. As they made their way through the charred remains of what was once the royal palace, Ingvar's thoughts drifted back to the events that led to this downfall. "We were betrayed," Ingvar murmured, his voice filled with bitterness. Pier nodded in agreement. "Yes, Your Highness. But dwelling on that now will not serve us. We must focus on survival and regaining what is rightfully yours." They reached a hidden passage, a route known only to a select few. As they navigated the winding tunnels, Ingvar's resolve grew stronger with each step. He knew that reclaiming Ardenia would not be easy, but he was determined to see his kingdom restored to its former glory. Pier nodded, his eyes reflecting unwavering loyalty. Opening the passage door an arrow was shot from afar striking Pier in the back. “Pier” Ingvar shouted, Catching Pier falling figure as soldiers came running. “Your Highness, you must run or you'll be caught and killed” Pier coughed struggling to breathe. Breaking the arrow in two Ingvar pulled the piece out as he tried stopping the bleeding. Ripping cloth after cloth and pressing it against the wound wasn't enough. Ingvar was ripped away for his courtier as the knights wasted no time snuffing out the servant's last breath. “Y-you” Ingvar was cut short. Falling unconscious by the hilt of a knight's sword. “Take him to be sold as a slave,” a knight said. The unconscious Ingvar was thrown into the back of the wagon in tattered clothing amongst other slaves. The journey was treacherous battling the cold and rain only added more downpour to the all slaves conditions. Ingvar woke with a headache clenching his head feeling the sore spot where the knight hit him. “W-where I'm I” Ingvar asked. “Son you are amongst the slaves” a slave told. “ We are headed for the kingdom of coral. We are being given to the Duke of coral” another slave told him. Ingvar was shocked and ashamed. He looked over the city seeing peaceful smiles and children his age either running around playing or messing with the guards. Ingvar knew his kingdom was ruined and his people were prisoners but there was nothing he could do. “ I must reclaim my kingdom,” Ingvar said.
