Chapter 3 ~ The board

I decided to dress in a pair of black jeans with a white button up shirt tucked in my jeans. I looked down at the ring resting comfortably on my middle finger. Questions ran though my heart as i opened my bedroom door. Nico and Jenny sat on the sofa. Jenny was dressed in a black skirt with a white top. Her blonde hair looked tied back in a braid down her back. Nico decided to wear a pair of black jeans with a white button up shirt with a black tie. He had his darker colored hair pushed off to the side. They both looked up at i walked out. I gave a tiny wave. "The board will be here by noon." Nico says turning back to the screen. "Then why'd you wake me up?" Jenny shrugs. "Felt like we needed to. Plus it's close to nine and Justin texted us."

"For what?" I ask walking to the sofa. "Don't know. He said he'll be up soon." Nico looked down at the ring resting on my middle finger. "Where'd you get the ring?" He asks gesturing to it. "Something that's been passed down through my family. Why?" He steps closer to get a better look at it. "That's vampire blood." Nico says with a frown. "Vampire's blood?" He nods. "I read a book made by a hunter who became a vampire. In one of the chapters he explained how vampires sometimes give necklaces or rings with a hint of something they have power over. It tells other vampires to back off." I nod. "Do you guys want coffee?" I ask trying to distract myself from thinking to much. Thankfully they both gave me a little nod. I pour three mugs of coffee then i place them on a tray with milk and sugar. I place the tray on the coffee table. Nico turns so he was facing me. "So why does your family own something from a vampire?" I shrug. "I don't know." I say as I hear a knock. Nico and Jenny both stood. "I'll get it. You guys can relax." I say giving them a smile. I walk over to the door then i open it. Justin was standing on the other side of the door. "Hey Tayler. Can i come in?" I nod as i step out of the way. "Do you want a cup of coffee?" He gives me a surprised look. "Yeah."

"Alright i'll get you a mug." I say as i move to the kitchen. I take down a mug then i pour coffee in it then i take the mug out to him. "What do you wanna talk about?" I ask. "The board. Looks like you're all dressed nicely. Remember to be nice or you'll end up dead." I give him a surprised look. "We'll end up dead?" He nods. "Yes if they don't like you they'll send you on missions your not ready for." I frown. "Can't you just hide?" Justin shakes his head. "No. One time a vampire had gotten in here."

"So if you don't die then they'll just send a vampire to kill that person?"

"I don't know i have never seen it happen but that's what some hunters think." I sit down no longer hungry for breakfast. "Then why is this even a job?"

"You have to remember no one knows about it unless they're a hunter. And if they tell they end up dead. Just try not to make the board mad or upset at you okay?"

"Won't you be there?" Justin shakes his head. "No they already talked to me so they have no need to talk to me again."

"They talked to you? Then why are they coming back?" I ask. "They weren't here. I had to go to them."

"Then why are they coming now?" Justin shrugs. "I wish i knew. Maybe they don't want you to see their base?" I shrug. "Maybe. can i ask you something?" Justin turns to me. "Yeah, what's up?"

"Do you know if a vampire can be in love with a human?" He gives me a confused look. "No i don't think so. If any have been the human was turned plus they're not like us. Once they fall in love that person is their mate. why do you ask?" I shrug. "It has something to do with that vampire doesn't it?" He says standing up. "It doesn't matter." I say also standing. "Tayler he was up to no good. Don't trust him." Justin says grabbing my shoulders. "It doesn't matter i say moving past him walking towards my door. I open my door and step out into the hallway. I needed to clear my mind. I needed time to think. To just think about what happened and why Tristan gave me a ring that was met to protect me. The wind blows in my face as i open the main door. I wasn't planning on coming outside so i didn't have my jacket with me. I walk to the little training yard we were in yesterday. I decided to sit on the little bench they had there. "Tough morning?" I turn to the sound of Tristan's voice. I shrug. "Like the ring i gave you?" I smile slightly. "Yeah it's pretty. Where'd you get it?" He gives me a light smile. Today he was wearing a black t-shirt with ripped jeans. His hair was pushed back slightly. "I made it."

"How? and is that really vampires blood?" He snakes his head. "Vampire blood? No it's a ring everyone vampire makes. It tells other vampires to stay away of whatever it's on."

"Then why's it red?"

"It's a ruby."

"Oh why'd you give it to me then?" He shrugs. "I don't really know." He gives me another small smile. "I gotta go your teacher is coming out. Also good luck with the board." He says softly as he disappears. "The board should be here soon." Justin says handing me my jacket. "Thanks." I say as i put the jacket on. "You should head back in otherwise you might get sick." I stand up and start to walk towards the door when i realize he was still standing at the bench. "Are you not coming in?" Justin shakes his head. "No i gotta make a phone call." He thinks for a moment before he walks to the door to let me in. "Thanks." I say as i walk in he gives me a little nod before he walks off to the bench again. Nico and Jenny were waiting for me by the door. "The boards here." Nico says. He starts to walk off i follow after them. After a little bit of walking we get to the meeting room. Nico opens the door and holds it for me and Jenny. "Thank you." I say as i walk in. The room was bigger with windows lining the one side of the wall giving everyone a great view of the city. Since it was on the first floor i got to see a mix of grass and roads. In the middle of the room sat a large oval table with about twenty chairs. At the head of the table sat a girl with black hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a pair of black jeans and a white button up shirt. Two men sat beside her both had darker colored eyes. The one on the left had dark brown hair while the one on the right had blonde hair. The women at the head of the table stood. "Please sit." She says gesturing to a few chairs. Once i sit she introduces herself. "I'm Ellen. This is Alec" He says pointing to the guy with the dark brown hair. Alec was wearing a black suit. with a white shirt. "And this is Jax." She says pointing to the guy with the blonde hair. He was wearing a white button up with a black vest and darker red tie. After a moment she sat down. "Now what happened with the vampire?" She says sending me a little glare.
