Chapter 1 ~ Begin training

Once Ben pulled in he got out and opened the door for me. The building looked to be at least two stories. Ben hands me my bag. "I have to let you in then you'll go to the main desk."

"Main desk?"

"Yes most vampire hunters live here. It's where you'll be the most safe plus the older hunters help the newer ones. He takes his card and slides it in the key hole it beeps green he pulls it open for me. After i walk in he stands there for two extra seconds then gets back in his car and drives off. I turn around much like a school there was a long Hall with doors on the wall it said i was in the training Hall. The main desk and rooms would be passed the training to the left. I don't even take a step before someone steps into the training Hall making his way to me. I start walking towards him when he's about five feet away he holds his hand out telling me to stop. "Name and rank please."

"Uh i'm Tayler. I'm here for training." He nods then writes something down. "Drivers name?"

"Ben." He nods. "One last question name of your parents?"

"Leo and Jennifer. Why?"

"Questions we have to ask. I'm Justin i'll be your guide and teacher."

"Wasn't i suppose to go to the main desk?" He nods. "Yes. I'll show you the way." He turned to walk. "I have a question." He turns. "Yes?"

"Show me your tattoo." He smiles and pulls his sleeve back sitting on his arm was the shield and sword tattoo. "Good job. Most people miss that." He leads me down the Hall then makes a left turn. Much like a school the main desk was sticking out of a wall making it look like it was built in. Two girls sat at the desk. Both had brown hair. The one on the left had blue eyes while the one on the right had brown eyes. The one on the left name was Zoey and the one on the right was Amy. "Hey guys this is our newest addition Tayler." They both smile at me. "Welcome to the vampire hunter family." I smile back at them. "Thanks."

"Guess what." They both give him a confused look. "She's the child of Leo and Jennifer."

"Whoa really?" Justin smiles. "Yep."

"Well i gotta show her to her room. Can i have her papers."

"Sure let me go grab them real quick." Amy says as she walks off. "Justin when's your next mission?" Zoey asks. "Um not for a while i gotta teach Tayler, Nico and Jenny."

"Are they in the same class as me?" Justin looks down at me. "Yep you guys start night at ten sharp."

"Pm?" He nods. "Yeah you'll need to learn to see in the dark and use your instincts to keep you alive." From his belt he pulled out a knife. The handle was black and the blade was silver the knife would've looked normal but the glowing purple letters on the side of the blade. "Why is there purple letters on the blade?"

"You'll learn why tomorrow." Amy gets back and hands him two stacks of papers he hands a set to me. "You have six papers. Each one will tell you where to go and what you'll be doing. They'll also have my number and the number of the main desk in case you need anything. Your room comes with a bathroom and kitchen. We provide the food and anything else you may need. You sent in the list like we asked?" I nod. "Good. Every Monday we restock and check your room to make sure you're keeping it clean."

"There'll be a list sitting on your table telling you what to clean and how. And last but not least the wifi the password will also be on the list." He leads me to a set of stairs. "May i add if you're never hurt on the job there's a doctor on hand." I nod. "That's a lot of stuff. Does everyone here know what they're working for?"

"Yes."

"Also why is there so much?"

"I don't know. I have a guess though. They most likely do it because we put our life on the line every time we have a mission." We walk up the stairs as it turns out there was two upper floors for just rooms. "Do they not worry about anything being set on fire?"

"We have our own set of firefighters." He answers. "How is there so many people doing extra things?"

"They're all people who passed the test but couldn't go back out or they're hunters but do extra things." He opens a white door. "This is your room." He pulls something out from the papers and slide it into the little holder. On it said Tayler McCain's room. "Remember to meet me down in room 112 for our night class." He turns to leave but stops. "Nico and Jenny are across the Hall. You should try making friends with them." I nod he gives me a quick smile then leaves. I walk in then i stop. I could see the kitchen and table. Then there were two doors one was a lighter brown and the other one was white. The living room sat across from the kitchen the tv was hanging on the wall. The counters and sink looked almost built in the wall.

In front of the sink was a window. The fridge was sitting beside the counter it was also sitting beside the white door which i hoped wasn't the bathroom. The table was sitting beside five big windows giving me a awesome view of the city. The sun was just starting to set giving the sky a pinkish color. The living had two sofa's which was more then i probably needed. The sofa's were facing the door. In front of the sofa's was a tiny coffee table sitting on it was remote for the tv and a few papers. Hanging beside the front door looked to be a hanger. So i took my jacket off and placed it on the hanger closet to the door. I walked in further. I could see the papers sitting on the table like Justin said they would be. I placed my other papers with them. I walked to the white door and opened it. The door led to my bedroom. The room was smaller then i thought it would be. My bed looked like a buck bed only under it sat a desk with a computer on the other side of the room sat a longer mirror it sat on the floor. Beside it sat my dresser. Beside my bed was a tiny window. The brown door was the door that led bathroom. In it sat my shower and bathtub which was like a two one deal. It had a little counter beside it sat the toilet. I walked out to the table and picked up the papers.

It was a list of everything that needed cleaned and what day it should be.

Monday - Bathroom.

Tuesday - Living Room.

Wednesday - Kitchen.

Thursday - Bedroom.

Friday - Training

Saturday - Free day.

Sunday - Training.

I hear a knock on my door. I turn walk over to the door and open it. On the other side was a boy who looked around my age. He had dark brown hair with light brown eyes that for some reason reminded me of dirt. He wore a

gray jacket and black ripped jeans with black boots. He gives me a smile. "Hey i'm Nico."

"I'm Tayler."

"Wanna eat dinner in my room?" I smile. "Sure but it's more like an apartment then a room."

"Yeah but once you get your room it's yours until you die or leave."

"Leave like quit?" He shakes his head. "No more like what happened with your parents. They had a child and moved out."

"Were they offered a place here?" He nods. "Yes there's a few rooms made for family's."

"Really?" He nods. "Yes i lived here for all my life though i don't start my training until tonight."

"Why not? You could already be out there doing missions."

"I could but they don't start training until seventeen." I close my door as Nico opens his. "What are you making?"

"Homemade pizza."

"How many are you making?"

"A few i planed on asking you to come over so we could get to know each other." He walks into his kitchen which was exactly like mine and takes out a pizza. "Be careful it's still hot." He says looking over at me. I close his door and walk in. "Are you already connected to the wifi?" I shake my head. "Want me to connect you?" I shrug my shoulders. He holds out his hand and i place my phone into his hands. His fingers fly across my screen and after a few seconds he hands me my phone back. "I put my phone number into your phone but it doesn't matter because they'll give us phones so we can always be in contact when we're on a mission."

"They don't need wifi?" He nods his head. "That's right. Now we should eat before it gets too late."

"I thought they didn't want us down there until ten?"

"That's right but until unpack and call your parents we'll probably have to get going down." It was around seven by the time me and Nico get done eating and talking. Then i spent an hour talking to my parents then unpacked by the time i was done i had to be in that room. Nico and Jenny both met me outside of their rooms. We walked down together making a little bit of chit chat. Once we reached room 112 we found the lights off. "Should we go in?" I ask "Justin said ten sharp." Nico replies. "So that's a yes?" He rolls his eyes and opens the door. Something hit me as off. I shove Nico and Jenny out of the way. "What was that─"

I cut Nico off by placing my hands over his mouth. I place a finger over my mouth letting them know to be quite. Something moved past us in the dark. I help Nico and Jenny off the ground I led them to the other side of the room that's where the other light switch was. Something moved passed us heading toward Nico i jump at it tackling it to the ground. The lights flick on i look down at Justin. I frown. "Good job Tayler." I jump off of him. "What the hell?!"

"Your first training is doing what you just did. You'll need to trust your instincts if not it'll get you killed understand?" I nod. "Good we'll move this outside." He hands us wooden knifes. "Touch me with this and you'll win."

"How do we lose?"

"Many ways if you all end up hurt. I'll be coming at you like a vampire would."

He pulls something out of his pocket. "I'll be using contacts for extra affect."

"Justin?" He looks at me. "Yes?"

"Show me your tattoo." He smiles and pulls his sleeve back. "Good job Tayler. Any time you meet any other hunter make sure you ask to see the tattoo." I see Nico and Jenny nod. "Good let's take this outside then."

Once we were outside he led us to a little park with no one in it which gave me the creeps. "Okay we could stick together." Nico nods. "You should be our leader. You understood before me or Jenny." I nod. "Keep an eye on the tree's i have a feeling he'll be using them as cover." Above us the tree's gave a little sway even though there was no wind. I gave Nico a look that said stay here. Then I climb up the tree across from the tree i was on sat someone other then Justin. Across from me sat a vampire with glowing red eyes.
