So this kind of took a funny turn. If you would've told me at the end of my senior year I'd have to pick between cousins I'd laugh. Hi, my name is Alexis, but everyone calls my Alex. I just turned 18, on the day of graduation. I moved here after graduating high school about six months ago. I've planned to attend college here, as it'd be closer to my family. See my grandma is really sick, so my parents decided that I'd be best that they move here to take care of her because they can't afford a stay at home nurse anymore. My mom was the first to move here, she got all our rooms set up and helped my grandma get into the groove of doing things with her. My dad decided that he'd stay with us in Oceanside so that we would be able to finish the last three months of school. It wasn't a hard move for me as I didn't really have any friends here so I got to skip all the goodbyes. Now that doesn't mean I won't miss the place, after all Morro is a small town compared to Los Angeles. The months before the move came by fast, my brother said his goodbyes to his friends while dad and I made sure that we didn't forget anything in the house before we left. To me, the only exciting thing that happened before we left was graduation. The house that we were staying at with my grandma was absolutely beautiful. It was a victorian style house with pillars that held the balcony on the second floor up. It had a beautiful porch that wrapped around the whole house with an outside table in the front and the back. The front of the house had rose bushes of all colors, which went well against the egg white walls of the house. Now the best part of this is the backyard had a pool that held a beautiful view of the ocean. The inside of the house was also absolutely stunning if I may add. The walls were a nice light gray color, while the couches were burgundy that matched the curtains. The hardwood floors were kept clean, my mom did a great job of keeping the house spotless. My brother, and I both had king sized mattresses in our rooms, our rooms were on the second floor which is a plus because I can now look out the windows to the beach while I do school work. I honestly couldn't ask for a better house to live in by the coast, this is every valley person's dream, they would be jealous of this house. Tomorrow, unfortunately, I start college. For the first time in my life I'm nervous, I've always been kind of a hermit, I'm really shy, but pre-college jitters hit me hard. Thankfully I didn't stall on buying my books because I don't want to fall behind already. I have big plans, sure it might be outlandish, but I want to be able to care for people, so I decided that I'd major in medicine. My mom knocked on the door softly "Hey honey I'm not sure if you're busy, but I was wondering if you'd be able to help me make dinner?" stress evident in mom's eyes, while her hair was a mess to match that. This is one of the reasons why I chose medicine, to help people like my mom ease some of the stress of taking care of sick relatives. "I'd be glad to help mom, I'll be down in five, just have to put some stuff in my backpack for tomorrow." I gave my mom a soft smile hoping that this would make her day easier. Quickly stuffing the last remaining items I'd need tomorrow, like my class schedule, notebooks, maps, and pencils, I dashed downstairs. "Hey mom!" I practically yelled making my mom visibly jump. "Jeez, Alex, you almost gave me a heart attack." she said dramatically while placing a hand above her heart. "Honey set the plates then come stir the rice for me please." Mom asked with her back turned towards me. She really didn't need to ask I would've done this willingly. Mom's probably feeling lonely, dad's been working long days to help pay the bills around here which left her and I to do most chores around here. This was just for the summer as we'd need to make sure nothing got into the house to try to stay cool. That's besides the point, I know mom misses dad and it's hard for her so I try to spend as much time with her as I possibly could. "Hey mom, can I borrow the car tomorrow for school?" I asked suddenly shy because if truth be told, I'm not even sure how I'll manage tomorrow. "Yeah, sure honey just be safe thats all I ask." she said as we slowly started bringing the food out. I'm not sure why mom asked me to stir the rice when it's already done, I thought and huffed to myself. "Hey al, I know you like being alone but I'm excited for you." Mom gave me her one million dollar smile. "Just try to at least make friends honey, it's not that bad." she said this with worry as she pulled me into a hug. "Now go tell your brother, and his friend it's dinner time." Mom pushed me along. Groaning, I knocked on my brothers door "Hey Rudy, Mike it's dinner time!" I shouted through the door then made my way back downstairs. Just as I made it down dad burst through the door. My dad is about 6'2, bulky build because he likes to work out, black hair, and stunning blue eyes that often reflected the long work days he's had. "Hey pops, how was work?" I grinned at him. He hated getting called pops he said it made him feel older than he was. "Oh you know scout, same ol same ol." humor reflected in his tired eyes. "Hey so I need you and the boys to eat dinner in your rooms tonight, I got mom a gift and I want it to just be us two. I figured with all the work she's done she should have something nice. Don't worry about grandma either I'll take the food to her room." dad whispered with a bright smile I haven't seen since getting here. With that I got my food and went upstairs, the night was pretty calm after that to say the least. Well except for mom's excited squeals and dad's booming laughter. hey guys sorry for how this chapter came out. I had a nine month old baby trying to use me and my husband as a jungle gym. I promise the other chapters won't be like this so thank you for sticking with me.
