Chapter 10Max came back to himself, and muttered, “Sorry, I’m crushing you,” to Tai and stood up. “Ah, I’d better go clean up.” His belly, chest and hand were all sticky. He scooped up his shirt that he’d flung carelessly to the deck. Tai looked up at him, eyes hazy, smiling. “Okay,” he said, voice sort of blurry, with none of its usual sharp edge. Still in the haze of afterglow. Max hurried off before Tai could recover himself and lose that satisfied look. He didn’t want to see the look change. To what? Regret? Betrayal? He ducked into the bathroom of the second nearest cabin—the nearest one he wasn’t quite ready to go into yet. He cleaned up, and stood for a moment, leaning on the sink, looking at himself in the mirror. Good one, Murphy, the one thing you said you weren’t going to do.
