CHAPTER Caroline’s hands were trembling when she put her key card into the lock and opened the door to her hotel room. Before shutting herself in, she turned on the lights and peeked into the bathroom and the walk-in closet, half expecting to see Becky’s abductor lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce. It was ridiculous. Caroline was just overreacting. Her husband was always like that, always so paranoid. When they first checked into the hotel, he asked to get a room by the stairs so he’d be near the emergency exits. That was the kind of man he was.
