Lucas Walters (POV)
Jane and I sat waiting for the result. I could feel her nervousness through the bond and squeezed her hand.
“It will be okay,” I tried to reassure her.
“Do you think I am changing? I mean that a wolf is waking up inside of me?” she asked, sounding unsure.
“There is a strong possibility.” I answered her, “Does that possibility scare you?”
She sighed and placed her head on my shoulder. “I know it shouldn’t, but I guess it does. I mean the unknown is always scary.”
“I promise I will be with you every step of the way and so will your family,” I promised her.
“They are your family now too,” she reminded me with a smile.
I smiled back, “That they are.” I said, with a kiss on her forehead.
Just then the doctor came in and sat in front of us.
“Well?” Jane and I both said at the same time.
“It seems the coffee was clear. No drugs detected.” That was disappointing.
“As for the test result on Jane. It seems it is true. Her wolf is slowly waking from its deep slumber. As for the cancer, we still need to do that scan on her to see if it is either shrinking or gone.”
“Do it, Doctor. I want to know.” Jane said, “As for my wolf? That explains how I was able to mark Lucas.”
I smiled at her as she looked over at me. “I am proud to be wearing your mark baby,” I said, giving her a sweet kiss on the lips.
“I am proud to be wearing your mark too.”
“How about I take you back, so we can do that scan on you?” The Doctor said as she stood up.
Jane stood up with her, “Yeah, let’s get this done.”
“I will be right here waiting for you babe,” I assured her.
“This won’t take long, Gamma.” The doctor said as she led Jane toward the back.
To say I wasn’t disappointed that the coffee didn’t show any signs of being drugged was well…disappointing. I was hoping to have caught Diana in the act. I know I was drugged. That would explain so much if I knew deep down that Jane was my mate. I would never have intentionally hurt her. When I was done having s*x with Diana, and it was after that she would want another round, I remember pushing her away, saying I was no longer in the mood. She would get up and get her and me a drink and, of course, for some reason, I would suddenly be wanting her again. Now suspecting what we suspect, it makes a lot of sense that she would be drugging my drinks to get her way.
“I was such an i***t. I should have put it together that after drinking the drinks I would suddenly be in the mood and for her only.” I mumbled to myself.
“Are you okay?” I heard a female say as I felt a hand on my thigh.
I looked over and saw Diana sitting where Jane was just sitting.
“What do you want, Diana?” I said, taking her hand off my thigh.
“Oh, come on now. I thought we were friends?” She cooed at me, batting her eyelashes.
“I am mated now, Diane. Jane means the world to me.” I said as she pouted.
“It’s not like I was asking you for s*x, even though you were always the best in that department.” She smirked, “I am just trying to be a friend.”
I sighed, “What are you doing here?”
“Oh, I was only visiting a friend when I saw you. She had gotten hurt during training and the Alpha asked me to escort her to see the doctor.”
“Then shouldn’t you be with your friend?” I asked, studying her.
“I was and she will be fine. But then I saw you, and you seemed to look like you needed a friend. How are you holding up?” She asked, sounding concerned, but to be honest, I think it is a fake concern. “Is everything alright with Jane?”
“Yeah, she is fine. This is only a checkup.” I said, not wanting to say too much.
“Oh, well, I am glad about that. Wouldn’t want our new female Gamma to be sick.”
I stood up as I saw Jane and the doctor both walking back toward us. I went to meet them halfway as Jane’s eyes widened at Diana following behind me.
“Jane, I am so glad you are okay,” Diana said with a sickly sweet fakeness.
Jane looked at me as I explained, “I told her that you were being seen for a checkup.”
“Oh, yeah. Everything went well.” Jane smiled at Diana. “Thank you for the concern,” Then Jane looked at me, “I am ready to go, Love,” she said, placing her arm through mine.
I smiled at her claim on me in front of Diana, who gave a glare at Jane. When she noticed I was looking, she suddenly changed it to a fake smile, “Well I guess I will be seeing you two around.” With that, she turned and walked down the hall toward the exit.
“The cancer seems to be dissipating. It seems the venom was the cure.” The doctor said after Diana was out of hearing range.
“That makes me so happy to hear,” I said, excited that Jane would be okay.
“I know I am thrilled,” Jane said, hugging my arm that she still held. “Let’s go home and celebrate.”
Catching onto her meaning, I couldn’t help but smile down at my mate.
