Chapter 1: The Arrogant Lord
AUSTIN BRYAN WELLS I was sitting in the boardroom while a group of investors presented their proposals. Most businessmen were interested in working with me; after all, I was one of the most influential men in the industry. I had worked hard to get to where I was. I had promised my father before he died that I would grow our company, and I had fulfilled his last wishes in the letter. The meeting ended, and I entered my office. Amelia, my secretary, came in and gave me some reports that I had to review. I looked up to see Camila standing at the door, looking at me provocatively. "Hello," she said suggestively. "Thank you, Amelia. You can leave," I said. My secretary nodded and left. Once we were alone, Camila approached seductively and looked at me with lust. "I'm working," I said dryly. I hated being interrupted when I worked. "I know, but I needed to see you," she said suggestively. I got up, and she wrapped her arms around my neck. "Austin, I need you," she whispered near my neck, her voice full of passion. I stared at her. Camila was a very beautiful and sophisticated woman. We had been partners and lovers for a long time, but I had never thought of having anything serious with her. I would never fall in love with anyone, love was for idiots. I was very clear about my priorities, my company, and power. That was all I cared about. "I'll go to your apartment later," I said, and her eyes shone. "Okay, I'll wait for you anxiously," she said and gave me a warm kiss. She moved away provocatively and disappeared from my sight, a good girl, that's what Camila had always been. The afternoon passed between reports and some calls. Amelia entered and smiled shyly. "Sir, Mr. James is looking for you," Amelia said, and my best friend appeared, smiling. "Thank you," I said, and Amelia left us alone. "How are you?" James asked as we gave each other a big hug. "Well, everything is under control," I said and sat down in front of him. "I know perfectly well that everything is under control. You are a control freak, I mean you, as you are," my friend said. "Fine, Jaime, as you wish," I said, and he looked at me, irritated. "I leave for two weeks, and you're still an ogre," he said mockingly, and I glared at him. "I am not an ogre," I replied, exasperated. "Whatever you say. How about we go for a drink to celebrate my return?" he said with a smile. Jaime had gone to Scotland for two weeks on business. He knew me perfectly, he was the only one I fully trusted, my only friend, in fact. Even though he's obsessed with finding me a good woman, he doesn’t understand that I’m not interested in such nonsense like love. "Fine," I agreed, and he smiled with satisfaction. We sat in the elegant bar, drinking whiskey. Jaime filled me in on his two weeks in Scotland, and I told him about the new business deals I was working on. "What else has happened these days?" he asked while sipping from his glass. I inhaled from my cigarette and replied. "Nothing important," I said, taking a sip of my whiskey. "Any women?" Jaime asked cautiously, and I looked at him, annoyed. "Plenty," I answered curtly, exhaling smoke from my cigarette. "I know you sleep with many, but I’m asking if there’s someone special," he said, and I rolled my eyes. "When will you understand that I’m not interested in having romantic relationships with anyone?" I said, exasperated. "Austin, you’re young, successful, you have a great future. I’d really like you to find a good woman. And I’m not talking about Camila. I mean a woman with whom you’d share your life," my friend said. "Jaime, you’re too sentimental. I’ve already told you, I only care about money and power. Those romantic nonsense are for fools," I said, and my friend looked at me with annoyance. "I think one of these days, you'll meet a woman who will drive you crazy, and you’ll fall madly in love. You have no idea how much I’m going to enjoy seeing you like that," Jaime said with amusement. "Never. That will never happen." I said firmly and took a sip of my drink. Patricio shook his head, smiling. It was the truth, I was never going to fall in love with anyone. I was very clear about that. I parked outside Camila’s apartment, went upstairs, and saw her in a tiny black lace outfit. She walked up to me and kissed me. I grabbed her waist firmly and led her to the bedroom. I undressed her quickly and entered her with force. She moaned as I moved with fervor. There was no need for foreplay. Our relationship had always been like this, just having a good time. She never asked for anything more because she knew it would all end. I finished satisfying myself and got dressed. She was breathless, looking at me with depravity. "Stay," she said, and I looked at her harshly. "I know you don’t like sleeping next to anyone, it’ll just be tonight," she added. I finished dressing and walked to the door. "I'll see you at the office," I said and left. She was right, I didn’t like sleeping with anyone. I hated being questioned. I had never given explanations to anyone, and I never would. Morning arrived, and I got up to head to the office. I walked into the kitchen, and Nellie smiled at me warmly. She was my housekeeper, an older woman who I believed knew me better than my own mother. I sat down at the counter, and she placed a plate of omelets and a glass of orange juice in front of me. "Thank you," I said, and she smiled again. "You're welcome. Enjoy," she said kindly and left the kitchen. I started my breakfast while reading the newspaper. I heard the door open and saw Noah standing in front of me. He was my bodyguard, a former soldier, and highly efficient. Behind him was my insufferable cousin. "Sir, your cousin is looking for you," Noah said calmly. The i***t, Daniel, walked in and hugged me enthusiastically. I looked at him, irritated. "You can leave," I said, looking at Noah. He nodded and left me with Daniel. "What are you doing here?" I asked, annoyed. His mere presence exasperated me. "It seems you're not happy to see me, cousin," he said, and I looked at him coldly. "Weren't you in Finland?" I asked as I continued with my breakfast. He sat next to me, smiling. "That's right, but I came back. I missed the family," he said, and I snorted sarcastically. He was a parasite. If he returned, it was because he wanted money. I stood up, and he looked at me. "Hey, where are you going?" he asked, and I turned to look at him. "To work. Productive people work," I said irritably. He smirked cynically. "You're a multimillionaire. You don't have to work for the rest of your life," he said, and I glared at him. "Tonight, I'm going to the club. Come with me," he said, and I shook my head. "Please, look, I know you don't like it, but I met a girl, and I want to impress her. The place is yours, so..." he said, and I knew what he was getting at. "If you want to go, do it, but don't count on me," I said, and he quickly moved closer. "Please, come with me. My little friend will bring her cousin or something like that. I need some support," he pleaded. "You're sick if you think I'm going to waste my time with the airheaded girls you sleep with," I said, and he looked at me coldly. "Austin, I never ask you for anything. Please," he said, and I knew he wouldn't leave me alone. Why did he have to bother me? It wasn't like I had never gone out with more than two women. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to get rid of him until I agreed. "Fine, you're unbearable," I said angrily. He smiled with joy, and I left my apartment. The i***t Daniel would be hanging out with some silly girls, and now I would have to endure them, but I'd get back at him for it.
