Blake
What was wrong with me? It has been one night. One freaking night! And my mate has already changed me. I knew the mate bond was strong and effective but like this?! I was known as one of the most ruthless and intimidating alphas in the country, I couldn't risk my reputation due to some girl who was supposed to be my soulmate. Although she was my mate and the pack's Luna. Handling the pack would be easier with her around.
"Alpha," someone spoke from behind me. I was just standing in the dining room with my arms crossed over my chest. I knew it was Andre so I nodded for him to continue, but I didn't turn around.
"Emma and I are going home and we thought we should bring Sam along." I whipped my head when he mentioned my mate.
"What? Why?!" I growled out.
"Because her stuff is there?" he said as if the answer was obvious.
"Right, I forgot. You may bring her along but have her back immediately. I'll send Max to pick her up."
"Ok." I heard Andre's footsteps disappear. He grabbed the girls and they drive off. I dug into my pocket for my phone and called Max.
"Hello Max," I greeted warmly.
"Alpha Blake."
"I need you to do me a favor."
"Of course. Anything."
"I need you to drive to Andre's house and pick up my mate."
"Ah, so you finally found her?"
"Yes, I did, last night," I explained. "And I think you know her."
"I do? What's her name?"
"Samantha."
"I don't know any Samantha's. Could you describe her?"
"She was in the limo with Adrian when you picked him up from the airport and dropped her off at Andre's house," I flatly said. There was no way I was describing my mate to him.
"Oh," he realized. "The blonde girl with the beautiful blue eyes?"
"Watch yourself," I growled. "And yes. She's going to Andre's to collect her things and I need you to pick her up and drop her off back here."
"Ok. But I should warn you. She doesn't have a lot. It's just a little suitcase. I would bet that she was only staying for the weekend."
"I’m aware. I need to come up with a plan to have that situation sorted. One more thing. I would bet my title that she’s going to pull the: 'I'm your Luna card'. Don't buy into it. I'm the Alpha and this is an order, do you understand Max? No exceptions. No matter how much she begs."
"Ok, I get it. Pick up, drop off. I'm not two, Blake," he joked.
"I know. I'm doing it for her, whether she knows it or not. It's all for her safety."
"Wow, you really care for her, don't you?"
"I don't have a choice," I sighed hanging up.
"Wow, that was cruel, even for you," I heard Adrian say. I looked up to see he was leaning against the door frame and him biting into an apple.
"Are you still drunk? I would have thought that you would be sober by now," I teased.
"Is that what a mate does to you? Whip you? Cause if it does, I don't ever want to find her."
"Or him," I laughed and he threw the apple at me but I caught it and bite into the other side. "What are you even doing here Adrian?"
"Please tell me you didn’t forget," Adrian hoped.
"Forget what?"
"The meeting, with the Silver Feather Pack. It starts in about a half hour."
"Right, I did forget. Thanks for reminding me." I took another big bite of the apple. I'm halfway done by now.
"Anytime." Adrian started to leave but stops dead in his tracks. "And I'm sorry, for whatever I did last night."
"How did you even know that you did something?"
"Before he left, Andre told me I was acting like a jerk last night to you and the Luna and he told me to apologize. At first, I thought he was joking with me, but then he told me he wasn't," he explained as I finished the apple. It barely pleased me. I would have to eat a real meal sometime soon. Preferably before the meeting.
"So, I can assume that you already apologized to Samantha?" I guessed. Adrian nodded and left without another word.
After a few seconds of standing there, I went to the kitchen to eat lunch. Our kitchen was a little bigger than average sized but it still felt small compared to the dozen of wolves who were fed here. There was a breakfast bar/ island with chairs all around, dishwasher, a huge fridge, and freezer, but most importantly, there was a lot of food. Usually, the average human goes shopping at least twice a month. For the average wolf, it was twice a week. For the main packhouse, it was twice a day. Every day my mother and other pack members go to the grocery store and load the kitchen. But every day other wolves also stopped by, and they also got hungry easily.
I saw my mother at the stove, preparing something. It didn’t smell like anything yet so I couldn’t tell what she was making.
"Mom," I groaned.
"Son," she groaned back and we both laughed.
"What are you cooking?" I asked sitting at the breakfast bar.
"Something you don't eat," she teased.
"I eat everything," I said quickly.
"Seafood?" she raised an eyebrow and I gagged. Ok, I ate everything besides seafood. It was just repulsive. The fish, shrimp, lobster, and the oysters all made me shudder and have nightmares.
"Really mom? The one time I'm hungry and Sam's not here you make the one thing I hate?"
"I don't know what to tell you," she shrugged. "You got to depend on yourself, not me or your mate to make you lunch."
"Fine," I gave in standing up. "I'll just my own sandwiches." I grabbed my ingredients and started making three sandwiches. My mom took off with her fish and I almost died on spot. As I was finishing my second one, I heard Max's limo pull up.
So, how was the trip? I teased, knowing the answer.
You were right, he sighed. She did use the Luna card but I did what you told me to and got her here safely.
Good work Max. You're off for the rest of the day.
Thanks, but there's one thing I should warn you about.
What is it? I groaned. I didn't know Sam like I knew my wolf, but what I could tell from last night was that she had a temper.
She- he began but was interrupted.
"I hate you!" Sam roared. She dropped her stuff at the sliding door, next to the dining table and stomped her way towards me. My heart also dropped at her words and my wolf whimpered in protest.
Here we go again, my wolf warned me.
"Who me?" I asked innocently. She was now standing in front of me, and I could see how furious she looked and I began to laugh. She was ready to strike me but I stopped her by grabbing her wrist in a hold I knew she couldn't escape from. "Let me remind you of who I am," I began, my alpha voice taking effect. I stood up and it was easy to see that I hovered over her. All her anger was now drained and was filled with fear and regret. "You may be my mate, you may be this pack's Luna, but you are nothing more and will never ever be. Do you understand?"
She was completely speechless and I didn’t blame her. I was as well. I never wanted those words to leave my mouth, now I was filled with regret. My heart throbbed at Sam's expression.
Good job dumbass, you made our mate cry, my wolf scolded.
I did n- oh. Now that I took a closer look, Sam was fighting the tears. Her eyes were clearly watery and she was looking away from me.
"Samantha I-" I started but she doesn't let me finish. She pulled her wrist back with a massive amount of force. She almost fell but regained her balance and ran up the stairs. I couldn't move, I should have run after her, but I couldn't. How was she able to pull away? Even with that much force, she shouldn't be able to pull away from me.
Maybe you loosened your grip earlier? Look, that's not the point, go after her, or I will, my wolf threatened.
Ok first, you're not taking over. Second, no I didn't, I kept my grip tight. Third, I hate to admit it, but you're right, I need to go after her. I heard a door open, slam, then lock. I started to head up the stairs slowly, following her scent. Although, I didn't need to since I knew where she had stormed off to my room.
"Samantha, I'm sorry." I froze. I was sorry? When have I ever been sorry? I heard pacing. It stopped
"That's not good enough," she whispered and then continued pacing.
"What's not good enough? My apology? Samantha please, talk to me," I begged. Now I was begging? Get a grip, Blake.
But she’s our mate, my wolf disagreed.
I know, I sighed. Why must he be right?
"Now you're begging?" Was she reading my mind or something? "You might as well leave me alone." Sam walked to the bed and sat in the center of it.
"Never. You're my mate and I'll always be here for you. You're mine and no one else's." Silence. "Samantha? Samantha, come and open the door," I commanded.
I'm sorry to disturb Alpha, Adrian's apologetic voice entered my mind.
What is it?!
The meeting, he reminded.
Oh s**t, I forgot.
Again?
I've been busy with Samantha, I explained. Please inform everyone that I will be down in a minute.
Of course, Alpha. One of the many reasons my best friend was my right-hand man. He knew when to be my best friend and when to be my Beta.
"Samantha I'm sorry but I got a very important meeting. It won't take long and I'll be as soon as I can. I promise."
Before I was out of hearing range I heard Sam muttered, "Don't make promises you can't keep."
I made my way to the kitchen instantly noticing the elite of the Silver Feather Pack. At the island were Adrian, Andre, the Alpha Cole, the Beta Lucas, and the T.I.C. Lili of the Silver Feather Pack. I was shocked to see a female as the T.I.C., but I didn’t question it.
"Alpha Blake," everyone greeted. I nodded.
"Alpha Cole," I greeted back. "So, what's this meeting about?"
"Rogues," he answered.
"What about them?" Andre wondered.
"A lot more have been entering our territory than usual. Usually, only three enter a day. And usually, we kill all of them, if not, most of them," Lucas explained.
"So, what's the issue then?" I asked this time.
"The rate has expanded," Alpha Cole answered. I noticed that when I asked, he answered.
"To what?"
"10 a day."
"Ah, I see," I sighed heavily. That was a problem.
"One question: What does this have to do with us? Our rate goes down and it stays down. It never goes up," Adrian explained.
"Well, our territory is right next to yours. We thought you might want to be informed," Lucas thought.
"And if you could help us," Lili added. We all turned to her and she flushed in embarrassment.
"Help you?" Adrian repeated.
"Yes," Lucas confirmed.
"Isn't your pack strong enough to handle the extra rogues?" Andre wondered. That was a good question. The Silver Feather Pack, besides their name, ranked top five in the strongest pack in the nation. So why were they asking for our help? Probably because we were really good alliances.
"We're afraid of what might happen next," Cole admitted.
"What might happen next?" I repeated.
"They might join forces and attack. With more coming in there’s a high chance they will unite and rebel." That was also a problem. Great, another issue on my plate, like I didn't have enough to deal with.
"Well, if it ever comes to that, you know where to call," Adrian joked while slapping my shoulder.
"Excuse my Beta. I completely understand. How would you like to deal with this problem?" I questioned taking Adrian's arm off me.
"Well, we're hoping if you could send a few of your pack members," Lucas answered this time.
"What's in it for us?" Adrian asked and Andre and I rolled our eyes in unison.
"Think about it. If we kill the rogues in our territory first," Lucas started and I'm surprised that anyone would answer Adrian.
"They won't make it into ours," Andre finished sitting up. I hadn't realized that he was leaning until he pulled himself up.
"Oh," Adrian said in realization and I sighed to myself.
"Let me get this straight," I looked directly at Alpha Cole. He looked back with an eyebrow raised. "You want me to send a few of my pack members to your territory to kill rogues so that way they don't attack your pack nor enter my territory?"
"Yes," he confirmed.
"Please," Lili added. Once again, all eyes were on her. This time, she didn’t flush. I wondered why she spoke so rarely. But deep down I knew that I didn’t care.
I gave the idea some thought before I answered. "Ok. You got yourself a deal, Alpha Cole." I stretched one of my long arms across the island.
"Thank you so much, Alpha Blake. I owe you one," he added while shaking my hand. I nodded in agreement.
"Andre, Adrian," I turned to them and they turn to me. "Find out how many wolves they need, train them and then send them over before daybreak," I ordered.
"Yes Alpha," they nodded in unison. I started to walk out of the kitchen but someone stopped me.
"Where are you going? If you don't mind me asking Alpha Blake," Lili said. I turned to face her. I saw Lucas nudged her with his elbow but she didn’t flinch.
"I don't mind. I have a little problem of my own that needs my attention." I started to walk away again but she stopped me again.
"Is there any way we could help?" she wondered.
"Lili!" Lucas scolds.
"What? Does it hurt to ask? Geez, get off my back. I know you're my big brother and all but that doesn't mean I can't do whatever I want." We all stare at her with a weird expression while Lucas just looked shocked. I c****d an eyebrow, intrigued.
"How are you with girls and their drama?" I wondered taking a step closer to Lili.
"Well, I am a girl and I take a slight offense," she laughed. "But I listen and give good advice. Does that help?"
"Perfect," I smirked. "Follow." I heard Lucas complain but Lili convinced him. By now, she was trying to keep up with me as I headed up the stairs to my room. I stopped outside the door and checked to see if it was still locked. It wasn’t and she was still inside. Thank God.
"Inside is my mate," I started.
"Oh, congrats. I didn't know."
"Thanks. Now that I have found her, I'm having a little trouble with her," I admitted.
"What did you do?" I stared down at her. "Oh sorry. It was the first thing that popped into my head."
"That I did something?"
"Yeah. Usually, when a girl is upset or mad it's because the male did something to make her feel that way," she explained.
"Oh. Well, I had one of my friends pick her up from Andre's house and she was sort of forced to do it. Then I kind of yelled at her," I confessed scratching the back of my head.
"What did you say?" Lili wondered. I gave her this look that said I wasn't sharing and she nodded. "I understand. I'll see what I can do." She started to turn the knob but I grabbed her small wrist, pausing her.
"Be careful," I warned. "She can be difficult sometimes." Lili nodded and then made her way inside.
"Can you close the door?" Sam asked. Lili turned to me for an answer and I nodded. The door is slowly shut in my face. I sat against the door and waited.
And waited.
And waited. Eventually, I get too bored with waiting and rest my eyes, letting sleep take over.
