Brea
I was about to thank our Luna when I smelled something inviting. It was a combination of burning wood and chocolate. A very weird combo, but they were my favorite scents so I was intoxicated by it.
"Mate," I whispered and Sam's eyes exploded.
"What? Do you know who it is?"
"No," I shook my head in disappointment. Whoever he was, he was driving my wolf and I insane. His scent was faint, yet strong at the same time.
"Well, we got to look for him them!" Sam said getting up and grabbing my wrist. She pulled me up as well. For a human, she was pretty strong.
"What?" I asked in astonishment.
"Don't you want to find him?" she rhetorically asked.
"I do," I admitted blushing.
"Alright then, just follow your nose. Literally," she laughed and I nodded. I took a long whiff and the scent grew stronger. It was as if he was looking for me as well. I smiled at the thought.
"I can smell him, and he's looking for me," I informed Sam.
"That's great!" she said. "Now, go search for him as well," she ordered.
"I can't leave you," I said grabbing onto her wrist.
"Aw, that's very sweet and all but-"
"No Sam, you don't understand. I can't leave you. My brother would kill me, literally," I explained.
"Oh, well I don't want to get in your way."
"You're my Luna. You'll never get in my way," I smiled at her and she smiled back. "Now let's go find my mate."
"Ok, where to?" I sniffed the air one last time and it was stronger than ever.
"He's in the food court. It's harder for me to smell him since the smell of food and other people were here, but I can definitely smell him," I explained closing my eyes.
"Where?"
"He's coming closer."
I kept my eyes closed and tightened my grip on Sam as we headed towards the sweet smell of chocolate and burnt wood. I could hear people complaining as I pushed them out the way, but I didn't care. This was my mate. I was so close. As if he was almost right in front of me.
"Brea!" Sam said. I opened my eyes to see a guy in a ski mask running away from the cops. The guy tried to go around me but I stood in his way. He tried again but I blocked him on purpose this time. This seemed to upset him.
"Move," he commanded.
He was right in front of me and blocking my view. If I was 5'8 this guy had to be at least 6'4. He wasn’t that much taller than me, but there was a big difference. He had green eyes and a beard and his voice was deep and rugged. If I wasn't intoxicated with my mate's scent right now and he wasn’t a criminal, I would have left with him by now. But since he wasn’t, this would have to be fun.
"Or else what?" I wondered crossing my arms.
"Brea," I heard Sam whisper. As if she was trying to warn me that this guy was dangerous or something. But I was willing to put my life on the line for my Luna. It was clear that she was frightened, but I would risk my life in order to save her.
The guy whipped out a gun in a flash and aimed it at me. Everyone in the mall gasped and screamed in terror except for me. Guns didn't scare me. Silver bullets did. Losing my mate did.
"Unless you want to die, I suggest you move out of my way."
"I'm going to let you know a little secret. Now first off I don't listen to you, no matter what you threaten me with."
"Oh yeah? Then I bet she is." He pointed the gun at Sam and she freaked out. "I knew it. What are you going to do know, princess?"
"You didn't let me finish," I complained. "Turn around."
"Like I'm going to do what a girl says. Yeah ok," he laughed and I joined in.
"Drop the weapon!" I heard a female voice command. The criminal groaned and shot daggers at me before he listened.
"Can I have the money?" I asked holding my hands out.
"Lady! Can you please move out of the way!" she commanded.
"Hey," I held my hands up in surrender. "I was trying to help. But let me remind you, I was the one who stopped the guy."
"You were," she realized, not taking her eyes off the criminal. "However, that wasn't your job, and we would have caught him."
"Yeah ok," I said rolling my eyes.
"Brea," Sam whispered. "Don't you think you should stop?"
"Your friend is right," the female cop interfered and I sighed.
"I know she's right. I don't need you to confirm. My point is-" I turned back to criminal to prove my point. I first kicked him the balls and he dropped the money and his knees. He held onto himself in pain and cursed. I grabbed the loot and handed it over to Sam. "Just because I'm a girl and not a cop doesn't mean I can't help."
The mall cheered and clapped at my speech and I laughed and bowed. I took the bag from Sam in my left hand and grab the guy's collar in the other and began to walk over to the police.
"I believe this belongs to you," I said handing the money over to the owners of the store. I could smell their scent all over it, not that I would tell them that. "And this belongs to you." I handed the guy to another officer and he handcuffed him.
"I'll get you. I swear," the guy promised. I bent down to his height, keeping my distance.
"I thought you didn't do what a girl says?" I reminded him with a smirk. He growled in response and I sent him a wink. I got up and looped my arm with Sam's and we walked away as if nothing happened. Then I remembered, my mate. The scent was no longer strong, it was nearly gone. Nearly.
"Wow," Sam said after we were away from the cops and all.
"Sam, my mate," I reminded her.
"Oh right. After all of that, I totally forgot. Was that him?" I knew who she was talking about and I shook my head. "Ok, we're going to find him right now before anything else happens. Sniff out and find him."
I nodded and closed my eyes. "This way. It's faint as if he's leaving but he's still here in the mall." I pulled Sam's wrist again and it feels like we were flying when in reality we were really jogging.
"Brea slow down!" I heard Sam command but I ignored her and pushed faster, tagging her along.
"No! I have to find him before he-" It's too late. He was gone. His scent disappeared and I slowly opened my eyes. We were outside now and the cops were shoving the criminal I had caught earlier into a police car.
"I swear!" He yelled before the cops could drive him away. I saw him watching me as he laughed evilly.
So, two things happened today. I had an enemy in jail who plans on coming after me after he gets released from prison. Second, I knew my mate existed but I couldn't find him. He somehow disappeared. Honestly, the mate thing is worst. I rather the criminal come after me a million times than not find my mate.
But mark my words...
I will find him.
