Like with major national events, every long-term resident of the area could tell you where he was when first hearing this legendary local news. Red’s Place was a garage/filling station on the outskirts of Due South run by Red Dillard which had long been frequented by the Rainwaters, McMayers, and loads of other locals. Red was in his late forties and for decades had enjoyed the largest clientele of any car repair shop or gas station in the county. He and his staff were top mechanics sharing a love of cars and trucks, a cheerful disposition, and a knack for jokes treasured by local folks.
