Vena
Sipping on some juice she tried to concentrate on the book she was reading. Ancient folklore and mythical creatures. She had found it this morning and while wrestling with her decision, either way it would be an asset to know everything there was about her werewolf captor. But she had read the same damn paragraph five times now. Her mind kept drifting to earlier. She hated to admit to herself. But she liked it when he touched her. Her body didn't shudder in revulsion. But it grew warm in anticipation. Abandoning from the book for now she leaned back in her chair and watched the sky line in the distance. The fall air was warm and smelled of leaves. It made her hungry for apple pie and hot cocoa. A very rare treat that she got the chance to indulge in. Even at parties where she was forced to go to as Frank's arm candy, she was still watched and restricted by Victor from eating or drinking anything that would make her gain weight.
'Frank likes his women thin, Vena. We can't have you getting fat on us, now can we?' He'd scold her.
Once she managed to sneak an entire pie back to the women when she was finally returned to them. Even in their trapped hell it was a moment of bliss for all of them.
A tear slid down her face as she remembered them. They were her family. They needed her. Now that she had agreed it was time he kept up his end of the bargain. She'd badger him about it in a little while. The thought of getting up made her ankle throb intensely.
'I thought you would want these.' His gruff voice spoke above her.
Looking up she saw his hand extended with two white pills.
'What is it?'
'It's for the pain.'
She held out her hand for him to dump them into it.
'Thanks. While you're here I want to know when you'll begin your plan of action to save my friends.'
Pouring the pills in her mouth she paused to take a drink from her glass.
'As soon as we're married.'
The pills got caught in her throat and she began to choke.
A hard hand smacked her on the back and the pills dislodged and clattered on the porch.
'Married?!' She coughed.
'Are you alright?'
'Married!'
Sighing Johnathan settled down in the opposite chair.
'Yes. I want you in every way. By your human laws here and my fae laws back home.'
'That was not part of the agreement.'
He shrugged. 'I assumed it went without saying.'
'No! I did not just escape from being forced to one alter to be forced to another! You said you'll be taking me back to your world anyway. Isn't that enough?'
'No.'
Fuming she was beginning to shake in anger.
'Damn you!' Standing up she stumbled before catching herself on the glass porch table.
'Vena, from what you've told me, is being married to me so bad? Have I hurt you at all?'
'Uh, hello? Only since I got here!'
'Intentionally, I mean. I tied you up only so you would run and so you could hear me out. I stopped you by force from escaping when you ran. But have I starved you? Beat you? r***d you?'
'But-'
'We both know I could have done it all. I'm much larger and stronger than you. I could have forced you to go either way. But I want to help you not hurt you. I want you to be happy, not sad.'
'If that's the case you'd have let me go! Helping me would be letting me go. If you wanted me to be happy you could let me find someone I will love and want to marry in the future.'
A look of hurt and anger came into his eyes as he sat forward.
'How would you defeat those you run from? Hmmm? You said he was connected and has money. He could bribe, kill, or do anything to get you in his grasp. Am I right?'
'Yes, but-'
'My kind is stronger, faster, and we don't want what you humans covet like money. This is the better way if you'd stop being so stubborn and look at the bigger picture!'
'If the bigger picture involves me being chained to someone who thinks they own me then, no! I don't want to see the picture! I don't want to belong to anyone but myself, don't you understand?'
He stood and stared down at her broodingly.
'If you would give me a chance you might find that there are worse things then being with me. You might even grow a fondness for me. Perhaps something deeper one day.'
A dry laugh escaped her.
'I don't even like you!'
An exhausted sign seeped from him.
'Fate chose you for me and I for you. You are mine, Vena. Whether you like it or not.'
'I only agreed to go with you to save my friends. You will never own me! For God's sake…ahhhhhh!' She broke off with an irritated growl.
'I hate you!'
She went to storm past him into the house when her shoulders were seized and she was whipped back to facing him.
Before she knew what he was doing his lips slammed down on hers. Her face held firmly between his strong palms.
Freezing she stood as his lips moved over hers. His tongue caressed her lips until involuntarily they opened on their own. His hands gentle as his finger stroked her jaw then crept in her hair.
The only sound besides the soft breeze was their breath as their lips met softly before picking up the tempo. Vena found herself gripping his shirt on the shoulder as he pressed her body closer.
Warmth spread from her fingers where they lay and a slow burn worked through her body. The warmth transformed to pleasurable zaps of electricity.
It was as if time didn't exist. There were no worries. No fear. No anger. Just this. Him.
His lips moved as light as butterfly legs down from her lips to her pulse in her neck. He gave a little nip with his teeth and her spine arched up.
'It can be good between us, Vena. Very good. If you'd just allow yourself to feel it. Just picture it. Me, cherishing you until the day I die.' Putting his lips to her way he spoke softly. 'I will, Vena. Take care of you. Hold you above anything and everything else. You'll have freedom and a new start at life in a new world. A world filled with magic, family, and happiness. Complete paradise. You'll want for nothing.'
Breaking away he looked into her eyes while tucking her hair behind her ears.
'Put down your fears and anger. Just try and see what you can have. What you deserve.'
She felt tears brim in her eyes and she quickly ducked her head.
'No.'
'Why not?' His voice was still a whisper.
She shook her head. 'A pretty new gilded cage with a new jailer doesn't mean I'll be happy. It just means I'll always be in a cage. Can't you understand that?'
He shook his head.
'Once you're in my world, you'll be safe. I won't need to guard you. Vena, you are my key as I am yours. I think that's why we were chosen for one another.'
'I want freedom. Freedom comes with choices I can make on my own. We will never understand each other, Johnathan.'
Now it was her turn to look at him.
'It's just not enough for me. I agree to go with you back to your world. I'll be your key. In exchange you free my family and give me back my freedom. That is my only and final offer.'
