Johnathan
His knees were pressing into the stone floor. He was vaguely aware of the stench coming from himself. Mingled with the odor of the cell around him. It smelled of urine, defecation, blood, and fear.
He had spent so long in the darkness. It had made him numb. The voices screaming out in his head had weakened to a whisper. His wolf, who was once a strong, beautiful, hunter, had long faded into a beaten feral animal. Angry but could barely whimper.
Through the numbness he heard her voice.
'Your brother gave me the choice to decide your fate. I could kill you. I'd get my revenge and rid the world of you.'
He heard her sigh.
'But instead I'll grant you mercy. Give you the chance to find your purpose. Happiness. On the condition you will remain in the human world. Harming no one. Live like any other civilian. Your way. You may return only when you find your mate. Not a moment before then.'
The sound of footsteps came closer to him. He felt two small soft hands curve around his face over his eyes. He felt pain for the first time in ages it seemed. It was as if his eyes were being seared all over again. Screaming he tried to jerk back. But her hold was firm. He'd grown weak in his time in the darkness.
Then just like that the pain was gone. Opening his eyes slowly, he saw his brother's mate. Cassandra. The b***h who was the pain of his existence and shame to his family. Standing in front of him. His brother too. James. He stood behind her. His look stoic. The older brother who Johnathan once adored and looked up to. But soon he envied and grew to hate. His brother had chosen a human mate. A sin in itself. A weak lower species of themselves.
But Johnathan found out who she really was before his brother did. That human was found to actually be half witch. Their number one enemy. A spit on their parents' graves. Johnathan had looked the other way when deals were made for the common good. But mating was unthinkable.
His plan was to get rid of her. He tried to offer her a clean way out. When she denied it he took matters into his own hands. His plan was to take over the kingdom until his brother could see sense. Saying that plan backfired was an understatement of the century.
Looking back at her where she still kneeled, she was staring back at him. A warning in her eyes.
'This is your second chance Johnathan. Don't waste it or make me regret granting it.'
