After walking for what felt like forever they reached a big house in the woods. The woman did a strange knock and someone opened the door. She motioned for Shawn to follow her inside. Part of him was nervous about what would happen if he followed her. Going against his gut he walked in anyway. Once inside he noticed the house looked bigger than it did outside. There were people everywhere and every eye was on him.
“Sara, who did you bring home with you?” a tall woman asked as she walked down the stairs to where Shawn stood. She motioned for me to step forward and said, “This is Shawn. He helped me escape a hunter I couldn’t shake.” Once the woman stepped into the light something about her made Shawn’s heart skip a beat.
The woman stepped closer as a tear fell down her cheek. “You’re the boy that escaped the hunters when your pack was murdered.” Shawn dropped his head. “Wasn’t your little sister one of those killed?” Shawn nodded, not able to stop the sob from escaping his lips. The woman wrapped her arms around him and let him cry. He hadn’t been able to feel safe enough to grieve.
The woman gripped his chin to make him look at her. “You don’t know me but your mom was my sister. She had to choose between us or starting a new pack with your father.” Shawn looked at her with shocked eyes. She continued, “My name is Martha. Your dad already had his own pack when he met my sister. She had always dreamed of being something bigger in life, so being the Luna to her own pack was a dream come true.” Shawn smiled inside because it sounded like his mom.
Martha motioned for the pack to listen. “With my mate, your Alpha, gone and me having no children; Shawn would be the next in line to be your Alpha. Anyone who wants to object speaks now.” No one moved to say anything. Shawn didn’t know what to say. Martha smiled and turned to Shawn. “So be it. You will be our Alpha. I think it’s only fitting since you survived a hunter attack.” She hugged him and turned back to the pack who clapped in approval.
Shawn felt like life had turned upside down. He never dreamt of having a family again let alone a whole pack of his own. He knew his sister would have loved it there. Shawn nodded and smiled at his pack when he noticed the beautiful girl that brought him there. She was just as stunning in the shadows as she was in the light. He walked over to her and motioned to go into the next room to talk.
Sara bowed to Shawn but he motioned for her to stand back up. “Please don’t do that. You don’t have to do that.” Sara nodded. “I had no idea who you were when I brought you here. I’m so glad I could bring you happiness.” Shawn walked closer to her and as he did she backed up until she was against the wall. Shawn put his hands on either side of her on the wall and leaned in till his lips were inches away from hers. “I can tell that you like me.” he smiles and continues. “I can smell the change in you, Sara. So that leaves me to ask you one question. Do you want to take things further or stop here?”
Sara didn’t know what to say to him. He was right, yes, she liked him but he was the Alpha now. She wasn’t willing to just be a notch on his belt. Shawn looked like the type of guy that could rock a girl’s world with just a kiss. Sara leaned in closer so she could breathe him in. He smelled like the forest and pure male. She smiled as she slipped her tongue out to barely touch his bottom lip then leaned in and said, “As much as I’d love to say yes, I know I wouldn’t be your only conquest.” Shawn blinked shocked and stepped away.
Sara took that as her que to walk away before it went further. She could feel his eyes burning into her back so she swirled her hips as she walked to give him something to look at. Sara laughed to herself as she knew she was torturing him and would have to pay for that at some point.
