The Broken World
Irma awoke to a cacophony of noise in the early morning. The sunlight barely illuminated her dimly lit cabin through the broken curtains. Her ears were suffocated by the low roar of the zombies and the screams of the survivors outside. She pulled back the curtains and the sight in front of her made her heart skip a beat; the streets were roaming with rotting figures, and the humans struggling to survive looked like they were engaged in a desperate dance.
Three months ago, life was so beautiful and the city was filled with laughter. But it all collapsed overnight, as if some irresistible fate was toying with human hopes. Irma's mind was filled with doubts: what was the reason for all this? Is someone behind this? Or is it God's punishment for this sinful world?
Irma packed up her equipment, pushed open the door and walked out.
The street in front of her resembles an endless nightmare, and a strong walker clears the obstacles ahead of her, leading her on to explore this broken world.
"This is progress," Irma muttered to herself, "getting better at manipulating walkers."
As it turns out, not long after the outbreak of the virus, Irma discovered that she could control walkers through her mind, an ability she still refers to as psychic tentacles. In the very first attempts at controlling walkers, they often broke away from her control in the middle of the process, nearly putting her life in danger on several occasions. As she used her ability more and more, she became more and more skillful at controlling the zombies.
The stout walker named Dannis, originally a football player in Irma's school, confessed his love to Irma downstairs during the outbreak, but the proud Irma would not look at such a mediocre boy, so she refused him. Unfortunately, at this time, the zombie virus spread, and a zombie running in the distance bit and infected Dannis. Dannis stays downstairs with Irma, giving Irma a chance to practice her psychic touch.
Irma and Dannis find an abandoned supermarket with brown blood stains on the glass windows, and through the open glass door they can see the shelves and scattered merchandise inside.
Not far away, a zombie was moving slowly. Irma maneuvered Dannis to break its neck and quickly entered the supermarket to collect food and other useful supplies.
Suddenly, a gloomy zombie rushed out from the warehouse. Irma couldn't dodge and was pounced on by the zombie. Fortunately, Dannis didn't get out of control of the psychic tentacles, and was maneuvered by Irma to solve the zombie.
But their commotion at the supermarket quickly attracted more walkers.
"Crap!" With a shock in her heart, she looked up and saw two werewolf zombies among the zombies running towards them, their hideous claws and sticking to the ground giving her the creeps.
"I have to run!" She realized how foolish it was to confront them.
These werewolf zombies were originally creatures that lived in harmony with humans, and when the zombie virus broke out, most of the werewolves were infected as well. Not only were they stronger and more agile than normal zombies, they also became a much more terrifying presence.
Irma picked up the supplies on her back and maneuvered Dannis to ram open the back door of the supermarket. The loud crash attracted the zombies to run towards the supermarket even faster, and at the same time, it also broke one of Dannis' arms.
Irma and Dannis ran quickly down the street, followed closely by the werewolf walkers getting closer and closer to them.
"There's no way out", Irma's heart was already desperate. The last thought flashed through her mind. She maneuvered Dannis to rush towards the werewolf zombie, ready to use this to fight for a ray of hope. However, the human body is no match for the werewolf's body. In less than two minutes, Dannis was torn and broken by the werewolf zombie, unable to move.
Irma had no place to retreat to, and hurriedly hid in a nearby private house and closed the door, endless fear and despair in her heart surging. Irma thought to herself, "I can just give it a try."......
