Chapter Three

POV Ava

I won't even lie, I'm still starstruck with what just happened right now. I stand looking at the now tiny figure of Frejah in the distance.

I better find my way to my den before i pass out from unbelief.

‘Well well well…if it's not the mighty fine Luna. Sitting under this luscious tree and letting her subjects do all the dirty work, training like prisoners with no choice’.

I don't need a pair of eyes at the back of my head to know who that voice belongs to.

I turn around to face her, this Leah my best friend. ‘And what brings you, a lowly prisoner up to my chambers’.

I play her game with her feigning arrogance. ‘Do not take a step closer you filthy scum’. I raise my hand up stopping her midstride from coming close to me.

‘Damn Ava, you really are playing the evil Luna role so well. If i didn't know you were joking, i would have thought you were an evil Luna for real’. Leah burst out laughing and i join her.

‘Well you know me girl, i try to be the best at what i do. Every time’. I tell her, laughing harder.

Whew, when we both stopped laughing. We sit down together on a flat smooth wide rock, i swear I'm so tempted to tell Leah about my encounter with Frejah just a few minutes ago.

But i bite my tongue and close my mouth. I already gave Frejah my word. The last thing i want is for her to think I'm a tattletale.

‘So…what's up Luna-to-be in a few days, i saw the color drain out of your fur while the mighty wolf dragon named Frejah was with you’.

My best friend asks me looking directly at my face with one elbow one the rock.

‘Woaw, was it really that obvious, you know how Frejah is…Leah. I just think i got on her bad side taking a break when i should have been training with you and the girls. She sure gave me an earful to last me a lifetime’.

Leah jumps up immediately startling me ‘wait a minute, did you just say you got on her bad side? Look Ava, that old wolf has only one side on her. And that side is not a good one girl’.

‘tell me about it girl ‘ i tell Leah absent mindedly, my mind already drifting off into unknown realms.

But Leah is quick, she always has been. She senses my withdrawal and nudges my rib.

‘Ouch, that hurt’ i scream out.

Leah is like a sister to me, she's the twin i never had. And i love her to the moon and back. She's definitely crazy when you get on her bad side i won't lie, but she's a real one, and she never jokes when it comes to her friends.

I remember when we were still very young cubs and would always get into trouble.

And while every wolf in the valley of Uzza thought Leah was the bad egg, it was I Ava, who masterminded everything. I mean everything.

But yeah, Leah always took the fall. Even when i was caught redhanded. She'll take the blame. One time i asked her why she always did, she said she had always wanted to be a villain. Can you believe that!

But hey, with Leah everything is possible.

‘Hello, earth to Ava’ Leah shouts while waving her hands in my face to catch my attention again.

‘Come on Ava, you can't keep spacing out like that all the time you know. Uzza wolves would think you crazy in the head, if they catch you one day girl’.

‘Look, I know it's a lot. You'll probably die because you won't have me near you always. Which is true…but you've got this Ava. In a few days, you'll be the next Luna of Uzza! It's what you've always wanted. Its your dream.

I know probably you feel like there's a huge scary mountain you can't cross right now. But I believe you've got this. Your heart is as pure as your fur…i don't even know what that is, but you can do this Ava’.

‘wow, i never knew you had a positive bone in you Leah’ i will tease the crap out of her with this for the rest of our natural lives.

‘Ugh, God i hate you Ava. I knew i was going to regret this’ Leah retorts trying to form a frown on her face, but i could see the smile trying to creep out and i knew she was enjoying it.

Leah is one wolf that rarely blushes and go all smoochy on you. So seeing her like this gives me an open invitation to continue messing with her. And i grabbed the offer while it was smoking hot.

‘I saw the way Bash was ogling at you the other night, at the Alpha's feast, girl. Like you were some nicely chopped piece of deer meat waiting to be devoured.

Is there something you're not telling me, girl’. I smirk as i ask her.

‘You know there's nothing going on between me and Bash’ Leah claps back weakly.

‘Well if you say so…I'm sure even blind old Eufi saw something that night though’

‘Stop it Ava!’ Leah is laughing her butt out now.

‘Ok ok ok fine, it was nothing i get it’. I say raising my arms up in surrender.

‘You're a mess Ava, you know it’

‘What…wait i thought you said i was the best just a few minutes ago’ i tell her with mock shock and surprise.

‘I'm hurt Leah, I thought you were my best friend’.

‘Get a grip on yourself Ava, you're such a drama queen. I wonder how you keep this side of you away from everyone’ Leah laughs with tears in her eyes.

As our laughter died down and while we both try to catch our breaths i decided to change the direction of the conversation.

‘You know what i want to do so bad now?’ i ask Leah.

‘I want to race you up that hill’.

When we reach the hilltop. I feel so light i can float away with the wind.

While we sit and catch our breaths. I feel the worries and anxieties that I've had these past few days leave me.

‘We better get back to the village Leah, we've been gone so long. I don't want Ryder sending out a search party after me’ i tell her standing up and brushing dirts off my clothes.
