Chapter Four

1052 Words
POV Ava ‘I wonder why he's even having a feast tonight anyway. I'm absolutely sure there will be a bigger celebration tomorrow. I could care less about feasts and all its foolery you know, but you know Ryder. He loves to show off’. Leah just sits and watch me rant. ‘I think you will do a terrific job as Luna Ava’. Leah says with a serious look on her face. ‘Really, you think so?’ i ask her with puppy eyes. ‘yeah…sure’ she says slowly, there's something she's not saying. I can see it in her eyes. I brush it off though. We walk down the hill in the direction of the village. Even though we are wolves in our true forms, we shift to our human side in the village. Because that way, its easier to go about with most day to day stuff. Like chasing stubborn cubs around the village. A wolf cannot do that. The way those fellas get on your nerves is enough reason for one wolf to eat all the cubs around. And i mean it. So we stay as humans in the village. But not all wolves shifts. Some were born without the x and y chromosomes that would have made them possess a human side. Regardless of that anyways, we still live as one in the village. In fact, some old legend refer to them as true wolves. So we kind of have a deep respect for them. Gad, my brother is one of them. A true wolf just like the legend. But scratch that, i believe we are all the same. Whether we shift or not. By the time we reach the two large stones that stood as the entrance of the village, the sun had begun its descent. The evening rush hour is upon everyone, traders stacking their wares to signal the end of business for the day, tensed mothers calling out to their mischievous youngs to behave. While me and Leah go by, the villagers sees us and bow in respect to me. I nod my head acknowledging the ones afar off, but stopping to greet those closer to me. ‘Ugh Ava don't you get tired of this, i don't understand why you have to be all mushy with every single one of them’. Leah complains as we walk on, she complains all the time anyway. ‘Come on Leah, you don't expect me to go all Evil Luna on the villagers? I love these wolves and i never want them to feel like I'm some high and mighty b***h that cannot be seen by Uzza wolves’. Not that I expect Leah to understand anyway, I just tell her. ‘Well Evil Luna would have worked just fine to me Ava’. ‘Whatever girl’ i say, laughing it off. When we reach the Alpha's den, the whole place was already crowded with wolves. Apparently, the party has begun even without the celebrant. Typical Ryder. ‘Lets go home Leah’ I say walking in the direction of our own den. Wait, i turn around and Leah is gone. That wolf never sees a party and looks the other way. So much for being my ride or die…pfftt. I'll just go down to the river, wash up and call it a night. I have to save my energy for the more important celebration tomorrow. Leah and Ryder can have all the fun they want this night. Not this wolf here. When i get down to the river, It's dusk and thanks to Ryder's feast all Uzza's wolves are having a blast. The quiet water is soothing to my soul. But its super chilly, so i hurry up and wrap my heavy coat about myself heading back to the den. I'm welcomed by an equally quiet and warm den. Seems the entire Luna pack are having the time of their lives tonight also. That's even better. I get to my bed and plop down tiredly on it. The pleasant darkness of sleep embraces me almost immediately. I don't know for how long i slept, but i felt two hands shaking my body. And oh, i heard that familiar voice of mayhem. ‘Come on Ava, you have to come see this party girl. Everybody's waiting on you. Remember it’s your party. Ryder sure outdid himself with this one’ Leah rambles off as she is shaking me like a mad chicken with no head. And if i think i knew this wolf. She would not let me rest until i joined her. And so it was. I joined her to the party even when my inner wolf did not want to go. The things we do for love right? We used a more private entrance to the Alpha's den. And as soon as i enter the main room, a loud cheer greets me. Everyone shouting, a few even let out a howl. I wave to everyone and try to shout back as many greetings i could let out. I truly feel the love the Uzza tribe has for me and i love them all equally. I join the rest of the Alpha pack on the huge oak table filled with dishes and various delicacies. My stomach let out a growl reminding me of the last meal i had several hours ago. I signal a servant passing by to bring me some food. While i tried searching for Ryder from where I sat. ‘gotcha’ I found him at a corner with some elders from the tribe talk. Such grumpy faces they all have. Probably some boring men talk i know. As soon as my meal arrives i dig in immediately, savoring every bite. I try to enjoy my food in peace until a drunk Leah lands on the empty seat beside me. ‘Ava! You have to try this wine. It's the best I've had in Uzza. Here try it’ thrusting the cup in my face. I know whatever Leah does ends up badly. I should never have taken that cup from her, but i did. So the drink kept flowing and going round. The last thing i remember is holding a gold wine cup in my hands, seeing a drunken Leah sprawled out on the ground. Before the darkness claimed me.
