Chapter 14
Belinda’s pov
I woke up from a deep sleep and all of the beautiful memories from the night before flooded on. I smiled and snuggled into my mate's chest. I reached up to my neck and lightly touched the mark that Gavin left. I couldn't wait to get up and look at it.
When mated wolves mark each other, that is them outwardly showing their commitment to each other. When humans commit, they get married. That is their custom. Our custom, in my opinion, is much more permanent. The bond that the moon goddess gives us helps with that, of course.
I felt Gavin move a little and his breathing changed. His arm around me tightened as I turned my head so that I could see him.
“How are you this morning?” He asked with his husky morning voice.
“I’ve never been better.” I said. I didn’t say that to be corny, but I truly meant those words. I have never been better than at this moment. “Are you hungry?”
His eyes darkened, “I’m starving.” His voice was so intense, but I knew that he was not talking about food.
We finally got up and showered around lunch time, we hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast yesterday and we were both starving. As we were getting dressed, a link in my mind opened between myself, Gavon, and May.
“Dears, would you like to come over for lunch?” It was May.
Gavin looked at me and I nodded. “We’ll be there soon.”
“Great! Balinda, bring your father.” May closed the link right after so we didn’t have time to answer.
Gavin came over to me, “Baby, I’m sorry.”
I swatted him lightly, “You have nothing to be sorry for. I know that there will be times when I really miss him, but right now I can’t help but feel happy for him. I don’t feel him anymore, but the disconnect wasn’t painful. He’s with my mom now and his soul is finally at peace after eighteen years without her.” I gave him a little smile.
I breathed in deeply, “You are so strong, Baby. Let’s go get some lunch.”
As we walked downstairs, I looked around the only home that I have ever known. I could see us raising our family here. Was that weird? There were things that I wanted to change, make it more ours. We could move into the master room, with new furniture, and I’ll do something different with dads old furniture. I must have stopped walking because I suddenly felt a gentle tug on my hand.
“Baby, what are you thinking?” Gavin asked. He was looking around like I was, trying to understand what was running through my mind.
“I can see us living here and raising our family. There are things we can change to make it our home. What do you think?” I continued walking around, ending in the living room.
“You want to have my babies?” He asked, smirking.
I could feel my face turn a shade of red, but I never looked away. “Yes.”
His eyes darkened a little and he came to me. “If you aren’t careful, we won’t be leaving to go anywhere.” He ran his hands up and down my sides.
I winked at him and pulled him outside, grabbing him his truck keys on our way out. We climbed in and sat close while Gavin drove us to his parents’ home. We were quiet, but it wasn’t awkward at all.
Before I knew it, we were there. As we walked up to the front door, my stomach growled loudly. May opened the door, laughing.
“Come sit down, we can’t let my son starve you! Oh, where is your father?” She looked around before settling her eyes on me. I think she knew, there was a knowing look in her eyes.
“Let’s go sit down and we’ll share what we know.” Gavin said as he ushered us inside.
There was a whole pile of sandwiches on the table, Trever was already eating one. He looked very guilty as we walked in, but May was so focused on me that she didn’t pay him any mind.
I started as soon as we all sat down. “You know that my dad’s mate left us about five years ago?” They nodded, I guess everybody knows about that. “Well, she was my dad’s second mate, not his true mate and not my mother. I have only recently learned this, but my mother died the day I was born from a rogue attack. The goddess gave my dad and my mother’s friend a bond in order to keep me safe. They moved here and that’s about what I know.” I stopped and picked up a sandwich. I know this is kind of a heavy conversation, but I’m really hungry.
They were all looking at me like I hadn’t finished the story, but I really didn’t know anything more.
Gavin spoke first, “I think you might be leaving out a few details, baby.”
I finished my sandwich and grabbed another to nibble on. “There really isn’t much more that I know. My parents met in a human town, she and her small pack merged with his. After she died, there was only one wolf alive from her old pack. That she-wolf was mated to my father. Dad said that he didn’t blame her for leaving. He said he could never love her the same way that he loved my mom.”
Sarina, I know we can trust them, but I have this feeling that we need to keep some things to ourselves. There is a reason dad told nobody.
I agree. Nobody needs to know that he was an alpha, or that we have extra powers, or that we have some strange destiny. Mom and dad’s pack weren’t just randomly attacked, I just know it.
It will keep them safe if someone ever starts asking questions.
It will keep us all safe, but I think we are going to have to share some of it with Gavin and Cade. They suspect that there is more.
I looked at Gavin, she was right. He knew that there was a little more to the story. I linked him to say that we would talk more later in private. He nodded and picked up his sandwich, signaling that this part of the conversation was over.
