It was a relief that the boy who had saved my niece hadn’t suffered any irreparable harm. The next day, I went to see him, accompanied by Sofia, although she seemed more interested in meeting Nikki's “boyfriend,” if you could call him that.

“Oh, hello Luka. What are you doing here? I thought you’d be in the study group by now.”
“No, Gaby didn’t go, and I didn’t feel like it either.” He seemed a bit down.
“Is it because my brother yelled at you yesterday?” I asked, guessing what was on his mind. Mauro had gone too far.
“It’s my fault all of this happened. I should have waited for Gaby and gone home with her. I had no idea that witch had already threatened Nikki, and that Nikki had lied to save Gaby and Luciano’s lives.”
