it was 4 pm half an hour since the detention had started total students detained were six, apart from ava and jay. Jay didn't know any of the other detained student in the room. Their detention was to end fifteen minutes to five o'clock, duration their detention they were told to take any novel of their choosing and write a short summary of its first two chapters after reading it. Jay took Frankenstein novel his all time favourite book, it was the only literature which entranced and thrilled him both at same time. He had already read the story over and over again but never quite got tired of it, jay knew the story by heart every single character in the book up to the tiniest bits written which seemed irrelevant if you weren't a fan, summarizing the story was child's play to him by a quarter past ten he had already finished the task as he sat idly by jay started playing the scenarios in his head of how he'll introduce himself to ava. Jay was a transfer student into Meaden high school it's been past over six months since he shifted from his former school, on the side ava arrived in the school three months latter after jay had settled in. From the moment ava set foot in the school she was trouble. Missing classes and doing all kinds of mischiefs, first few weeks teachers gave her a pass hoping she'll change down the road after she had properly got used to the new school. That was mistake for as days went on ava never showed any hint of ever changing her behavior, teachers grew tired of letting her slide, they saw that cranky behaviour wasn't a cover sooner after accepting that she was treated equally as every other troublesome student. Teacher arranged each detainee to a single person table in library to avoid starting up of any conversation between them, then teacher left them to do their task given till the end of detention and submit it at the front desk for check up later when she'll return to collect them. Jay stood up from his table and started walking slowly heading to ava, she sat at the last table in the library near the wall. From where she was positioned, ava was last in the library, as he neared jay saw ava had already finished her task, the papers of the work she folded them neatly and kept them beside the book she was reading. "you a fan of Dan Brown?" jay asked, pointing at the book which ava was reading 'The lost symbol.' ava remained silent then questioned back, "wanna join the club?" locking eyes with jay. "Nah, I'm already picked."he replied raising his frankestein novel with a smile. "saw the movie which his novel inspired though." ava sighed, "His novels inspired series of movies, at least be more specific." then returned her attention to reading the book. "I don't quite remember its name, I just know it have the word code within its title." jay told her, drumming his fingers on the table trying to remember the name, noise of jay's fingers tapping irritated her. "better get on with whatever you were doing dude." ava said giving jay a cue of going away. Suddenly jay snapped his fingers which earned him a couple of stares from other students in the library. "it's known as Da Vinci's code. I knew it was in here somewhere." jay said as he pointed at his head, pretending to never get the cold shoulder ava gave him. "hooray, fifty points for you." ava complimented him lamely. "if you won't mind, am not much of a talker or fan of your novel, so could you give me privacy." "sorry, am fresh out of privacy today." jay replied smiling, "call me jay." He introduced himself then sat across from her. "great, now you humbly welcomed yourself to a sit, such a gentleman." she said sarcastically, clearly irritated. "gentleman am not, much as you aren't a proper lady." jay commented. "its 20th century you dimwit, not stone age." "and here I thought we were speaking of manners." jay commented then placed his book on the table. "if you lower your sarcasm frequency, a frequency a little bit you wouldn't be receiving quite a week full of detention. Could even earn yourself girl clique." "hey, can you lower your voice they destruct others." boy sitting in another table in front of them told jay, he wore a school baseball sport jersey. Jay gave him thumb up then turned ahead. "jocks." he whispered to ava, as he pointed behind at the guy who called them. ava rolled her eyes then exhaled, "can you please say what brought you here, surely ain't about girls cliques." "I see, ain't much of a conversationalist." jay told her then lay his head on the table. "heard you were chased out of your former school after committing despicable act."
