CHAPTER TWO: mundane

part 6

Jeep stopped in the parking area inside four students were talking and laughing as sound of pop music blasted in the car speakers, other students were still arriving more could be seen chilling outside in small groups passing time waiting for class hours. It was around 7:20 am Monday morning and school campus was already full of activity everybody had a story to tell their friend about what happened during their weekend, all the chattering around made the campus alive at the top of the building entrance large golden coloured letters were embodied "MEADEN HIGH SCHOOL".

The corridors were worst, filled with noises as the students walked up and down the hall, others hanging around their lockers, at the end of the corridor going to the left corner there was a blue door written in white letters toilet.

Inside a boy leaning casually on the wall, the look on his face gave out, his mind was wandering else where and had his arms crossed over his chest, still had on his backpack then he started tapping his foot lightly on the floor.

He had an athletic body, green coloured eyes and his hairs were spiky and blonde. Then came sound of toilet flashing " stupid toilet." person inside grumbled a door was then opened another teen stepped outside, he had on long sleeved blue shirt, his hairs were curly and black. He was busy fixing his shorts that he didn't notice the boy leaning on the wall, down he had on red sneakers with untied shoelaces when he raised his head the boy caught sight of Jay on the wall.

"didn't see you there." Tony said nonchalant as he turned toward the sink.

jay didn't reply he kept quiet then turned his head a little on the side.

"The video went viral." he stated in a calm voice."guess am gonna be the jock of school for a while."

"Ooh, come on you still hanging on that? it's a past news already." his friend tony replied as he dried hands.

"it was a total embarrassment tony, you told me no one would see it." jay went on.

"some of my guys saw it they thought it was hilarious, next thing I know is that it's been passed around the campus group like Cheerios." tony defended himself.

"really?" jay questioned totally not buying his story.

"sure. anyway who cares? its gonna cool down give it a couple of days.''

"I care." jay spoke calmly but could see the muscles of his jaws twitching.

"at least your dad won't." tony replied then went out of toilet leaving jay inside.

Tony always felt jealousy of jay for his dad didn't bug him a lot. If they fell into trouble jay got off easy at home, things weren't the same on his side. So whenever they had an argument tony made sure to make that statement his sucker punch and it always score points.

On the other jay blamed himself for falling in another of tony's stupid prank. Tony had his one big dream of becoming a videographer or anything that'll have cameras, when events occurred he made sure to record them. He told jay that he will create a film from them and it'll give him a full scholarship to one of great arts college in the country. Jay thought his plans sounded surreal.

Jay exhaled and let his head fall back on the wall, he could still recall the incident clear as day. Tony gave him a bet that if he goes to Joana and tell her, she was his crush without chickening out, tony would give him forty dollars and if failed he would fetch their tennis ball from Mr Gunderson backyard. a fool he became and played directly in tony's hands.

Mr Gunderson backyard wasn't your typical flower and vessel backyard. He had a big dog nearly becoming a hound and called him growl, Gunderson himself was gruesome as a person could get, When children lost their toys in his yard they just gave up on them. Stupidity of jay made himself believe he could confess to joana that he liked her, on that day Joana's boyfriend Zack was all around her like a hawk, jay was forced to go fetching the ball. Jay got into the yard easily no one was at the back or growl, he went and took the ball from the tap when Jay turned to head back he came face to face with growl his mouth wide open showing jay the gift he was about to receive. Jay ran to the other end of the fence overlooking the alley, instant he grabbed the fence growl had already bit on his shoe jay lost balance and toppled over and fell into trash collection, he got off the container and his left leg which lost the shoe landed on dog poop.

All incident tony recorded in his camera, he assured jay that he won't share the video, one thing jay forgotten to take the word of tony in absence of scouts honor that promise become invalid. He didn't know for sure if tony's friend were responsible for posting that video online or not for they weren't supposed to see it in the first place, now the video became viral and even had his sticker on it written dogpooper it wasn't even a real word,

"good jay, great way to collect yourself an audience." he told himself in low voice then left the toilet and headed to the class.

The clock on the wall read 10:45 am and jay already fast asleep for the past forty minutes, it was second period and their history teacher told them to do personal studies for she had to mark their papers. Soon after Jay received the book he slammed his face on the cover page and fell asleep, he was awaken by sound of the door being opened then a girl entered it was Ava. She was one of aristocracy student in the school, from the stories jay heard she was chased out of her former elite school reason unknown but rumors had it she torched girls dormitories.

Ava had medium sized body and neither was she tall, her eyes were hazel and had long red hair. She wore denim jacket, black skinny jeans and had on stiletto. And the only sound heard was of her shoes clicking on the floor as she walked heading to her seat.

"Hey there young lady." Ms Abby their history teacher called, ava stopped.

"I don't think that's a proper way of greeting your teacher." Ms Abby said as she looked intently at ava.

"sorry." ava apologized with her sweetest face on.

"Have you got a pass note, or any proper reason for being late?" she asked.

ava looked as if recalling something,

"mmh, actually no I think it's the same story that am late because I am home all alone, had to prepare myself breakfast and my dad is still in an endless trip followed with a lot of blah blah in the end." ava replied sarcastically.

"I guess that calls for detention in the library then."

ava sighed,

"when will they expel me?" she said in low voice.

"what was that?" ms Abby asked.

"thank you, madam." ava shouted, students at the back snickered for what she replied.

"and jay you are also detained." ms Abby told him then went back in marking the papers.

"for what?" jay asked in amazement.

"I told you to do personal study on the next topic not sleep through half of my

period."

"damn it." jay grumbled.

"that pass your detention in library."

Jay struggled not to say anything smart fearing to be detained for whole week Ms Abby had that reputation. He slumped back in his chair, when he turned to look at ava, she had on I don't give a damn expression as she continued opening the book pages. Jay smiled to himself she was truly a pain, it seemed detention wouldn't be bad after all.
