The rest of the meeting dragged for me as the pack continued to talk about restoring Fairhope to its previous glory. I zoned out from everything that they were saying, my mind only able to focus on Alexis. My heart panged for her as I imagined what her life must have been like since she became a Vampire. I can’t imagine how horrible it would have been to be used as someone’s pawn, to be a slave for someone that you don’t even like because your hardwiring demands that you obey their commands. I don’t blame Alexis for what she did to me. Yes, I felt betrayed and hurt, but knowing how hard Troy had to fight to stay away from Claudia, I still can’t blame her. She was my first friend in New Orleans, the first person to make me feel at home there and make me believe that I could start a new life
