The Next Day
I open my eyes to a room that does not belong to me. Sitting up, I looked around at my surroundings; there was one huge window, across from me, a four-poster bed, in which I was asleep and a seating area in the corner that was contemporary in style and non-threatening. In this kind of situation, most would think waking up in a strange place is something to be worried about, but I feel that I have crossed every limit of fear. I’m more confused by how I got here in the first place. The only light in the room seems to be both natural and artificial. I couldn’t tell if it was morning or afternoon but the light was a mixture of the sun and the outside. The light wasn’t the thing that woke me though; it was a deep foreign voice calling an ancient hymn. I place my legs off the bed and on the cold tiled floor.
All of a sudden, a realization hits me like a bullet when I see my bandaged knee and I remember the fragment from last night.
" Last night, I went to Valentina's house to get cassy but I saw something which I wasn't supposed to see... then I took cassy but then I came across him... I hurt myself and he found me by the lake and he tried to kill me... then what happened?" I thought for answer but my memory was still hazy.
I looked around the room and tried to think about how I got here. And where am I? Why didn't you kill me? But with no answer, I only find myself in great turmoil. As I laid my eyes on the floor, I saw my clothes on the floor and I looked down at my clothes. I was wearing a white floral dress which wasn't mine.
I stood up, my knee was still hurting and I heard footsteps approaching the door and I quickly laid back on the bed, pretending to be asleep and I heard the door open and someone stepped inside the room.
" For the hundredth, you've called me since the morning, asking me about this girl. She is still sleeping for God's sake, just calm down and if you just keep calling after two minutes then you better come fast and tell me what the hell is going on?" He said and I think he was talking to someone. I kept my eyes shut tightly and didn't move at all.
And when he left the room, I quickly got up from the bed and made my way to the door which he slightly opened. Well, I peeped through the door only to see a man in a black suit talking on the phone, well more like shouting if his body language had anything to say about it.
" Make it fast here! I am not even joking. You took a girl into Christina's house, without her knowledge. What if she finds out about her? She'll be here in an hour and before this happens, you take this girl from here." He was so mad at the person who was on the phone but I thought, I know who he is talking on the phone? the guy who wants to kill me.
I backed up from the door and thought about doing something to escape before he could come and take me... obviously I can't talk to this man because he works for him. That's why he kept me here.
I began pacing in the room for a few minutes, but then I laid my eyes on the coffee table and an idea popped up in my head like a light bulb and I quickly picked up a flower vase made of glass.
I was still hearing the voice of the man outside of the door, so, I decided to execute my plan quickly before he left.
Next, I stood next to the door. My back was facing the wall. I took a deep breath and found myself second guessing myself, but there was no time for doubt and thinking about the consequences...but what if my plan doesn't work?
As I was thinking about that vase, my sweaty palms slipped through my fingers. It shattered on to the floor in two million pieces.
" Oh, f**k me! What did I just do? You had only one job, Aisling." I thought in my head and heard the man being alerted by the noise of the shattering sound of glass breaking.
My panic button was turned, I was unable to think or process everything at once.
The man emerged through the door. I was filled with horror, my heart was coming out of my rib cage. The man walked into the room, making me utterly in terror.
I stood still, not making any noise. I didn't want to get caught.
" What was that noise?" he said and his phone was still on, sweat broke down from my forehead and I saw from the corner of my eyes the silver candle holder on the console and I carefully slid my hand and took it in just in case I needed it.
" Hello...Hello...Cleo, what is happening? tell me." someone barked from the other side of the phone and he wasn't standing too far from me.
" Nothing, I think I heard something but I saw nobody," he said on the phone, and I tip toe went behind him to slip out of the door.
" Wait a second, where is she gone?" he looked over at the bed and I froze. Not know what to do?
As the man spun around, I reacted impulsive and hit his head with the butt of the candle holder. He knocked down on the floor. And I threw the candle holder in horror that I have killed someone
My hands were shaking violently. My eyes fixed on the unconscious man on the floor.
" Oh, no what the f**k I just did?" I said and cuss myself for being so stupid and careless. I've never killed a ant in my life but today I knocked a man down. A few seconds past but he wasn't responding. I decided to check his pulse to see if he was alive or not.
I hesitated at first because I don't want to touch him but I need to do it whether I like it or not.I bent down on my one knee next to him.And I have never seen this guy before in my life, with my shaky fingers I held his wrist to the pulse.
