Gemma sat on Max’s lap as she contemplated everything she had been told. Her mind was still trying to process the information mammie had told her twenty minutes ago. The room had erupted when Carrie had told Gemma she was a WiOfa - A white Fae Wolf princess, and the questions were flying out from everyone but Gemma who had sat there in shock, her mind numb. Finally Carrie had told everyone to take a break for half an hour as the adults had each kissed Gemma’s head and left the room, the two warriors standing outside the door.
“I...I can’t believe it! I just can’t...I mean this is insane!” Maddie said, her voice pitching higher with each word
“I knew it was something big they were hiding from us. I still don’t get why they had to bring us here to tell us” Ben said as he paced in front of Gemma
“Gemstone” Max said as he brushed her hair away “Baby, please say something”
“How can she say anything? I mean it boggles the mind!” Maddie shrieked “Can you blame her!”
“Here” Max looked up and say Cindy holding a glass of orange juice out to him for Gemma
Taking the glass from Cindy, Max tried to coax Gemma to have some. Cindy reached over and touched the middle of Gemma’s forehead and brought her finger down until the tip of her nose. It seemed to wake her up as Gemma blinked her eyes a few times and looked around, seeing everyone looking at her and waiting for her reaction.
“Come on Gemstone. I need you to have some of this” Max says as he tips the glass to her lips
Blinking again, she takes a sip of the orange juice, it’s sweetness hitting her taste buds as she starts to take bigger sips, her body finally awaking from it’s frozen slumber Max nuzzled her neck and took a deep breath, happy that she finally seemed to be active.
Maddie looked at the plate of sandwiches Cindy had placed in front of them and took a cheese and ham roll and bit into it. Grabbing a water bottle and taking a deep swing, she felt arms tighten around her from behind
“Easy babe. You’ll make yourself sick if you eat that fast” Ben whispered in her ear
“Madz never gets sick eating too fast” Gemma said softly
The group approached her, talking fast and together, their voices overlapping each other as they tried to find out if she was ok while discussing what had been said at the same time. Max tried to calm Ben and Maddie down but their worry for Gemma and the overload of new information kept their voices high pitched.
“How did you wake Gemma from her inner thoughts Cin?” Carrie asked as she approached her daughter
“I..I just did what you used to do to her, when she was younger” Cindy explained as she too took a sandwich and bit into it.
Carrie nodded thoughtfully as she looked at Gemma on Max’s lap, her head buried in his neck as she took deep breaths. Heather walked over to Carrie and squeezed her arm before clearing her throat and looked at her mate who had now come back into the room with Liam.
“Ok everyone. I know you have many questions, but the truth is...What we have told you right now is the tip of the iceberg. “ Jon said as he walked back into the circle
“There’s more?” Maddies shrieked, her eyes wide
“A lot more. I need you all to sit back into the positions you were before. Pumpkin, I know it’s a lot to take in, but if we don’t do this in the one go, it will be harder” Jon explained
“What will dad?” Max asked with a frown as he felt Gemma look at his father.
“Max” Heather says, coming up to her son and touching his cheek “Please forgive me”
“For what mum? He asked, confused.
“Sweetheart - “
“Mum” Max cut’s in “There's nothing you have done to be asked forgiveness for”
“Oh my love” Heather sighs, her tears slowly rolling down her cheeks “Please remembers that anything I did, I did because I love you and had to keep you safe”
“Ok, time is getting on, so please everyone. Take your seats where you sat before” Jon said
Everyone started to move back to where they sat previously and Jon again started to light the candles and the warriors sat so complete the circle. Carrie walked back into the circle and sat in front of Gemma who looked at her, her eyes somber and full of questions.
“Ok. Please let me finish. I promise I will explain everything. Even questions you have about your wolf” Carrie said, sitting cross legged
“So I do have one then?” Gemma asked, speaking for the first time after a while
Heather, Liam and Jon sat outside of the circle and Carrie inside. Max took his place beside Gemma and held her hand, bringing it to his lips to kiss it before placing their interlocked hand on his knee.
“Yes Pumpkin. But first let me explain” Carrie began “When your mum had you, your parents had joined the pack but were still living in London. Your dad was a brilliant inventor and had all these ideas on how to protect the wolves from attacks. We finally convinced them to move here after the first attack on your family, two months after you went home from the hospital. They moved here and Jon tried to convince them to stay in with us, closer to us but your mother said she felt closer out here; near the pack house”
“You know pumpkin, that your parent’s house is only an extra five minutes drive from this pack house” Jon continued, his voice gruff “The first week they stayed at our house, your mum ran in her wolf form and found that spot., saying that the energy she got from it was calming and that’s where she had to be. So we helped build the house there”
“They were so happy pumpkin. Lily made the house into a home, her fae magic allowed the house to be spelled so anyone driving by, couldn’t detect anyone but humans in the property including the surrounding gardens. Peter made you this amazing treehouse in the back with a proper bedroom, a kitchen and-”
“A hidden room” Gemma whispers, her eyes looking around as if seeing something not there
The adults gasp and stand up. Heather started to wring her hands together while Carrie pales and covers her mouth in shock. Jon nods towards the warriors who speak to the patrol outside and get up and close the door, locking it. Liam walked towards Carrie and sat down beside her.
“She’s remembering Jon, we don’t have much time”
“What’s going on?” Max asked, anxious at how the adults were acting
“Why has the door been locked?” Ben asked as he stood up
“Listen quietly” Carrie said urgently “For years your mother and I tried to contain your scent. After you first shifted, every year; on your birthday the scent of your magic and your wolf got stronger and Lily had to read a stronger spell each time to hide it. By the time you were three, it was so strong that Max and Ben would pick up on it and would follow you around. Maddie and Cindy would stick to you like glue. The worst being Max, he would question and talk about you’re scent, asking what it was and why it was strong”
Max and Gemma looked at each other with a faint smile, their eyes connecting and speaking their own language. Max kissed her lips before turning to everyone.
“Peter had made this secret compartment in the tree house because Lily told him to. Without me knowing, Lily had spoken to a seer from the Balkan Mountains and had been told of prophecies. The first being that once the true princess emerges, her wolf would follow but only after she mated because within that mating her true worm would arise. If she selected the correct mate, the twins born from that union would either lead us into the golden rule. That they would do the work of their parents and keep the peace for all supernaturals. But-”
“If she was to select the wrong mate or fall into wrong hands and force mated, the union would bring forth chaos and destruction as one twin would be corrupt and one would do good and the battle of good versus evil would always continue within the bloodline; the supernatural world would be filled with deception and fighting” Jon cut in
“Lily was told to hide you until you were of age. To keep you blanketed and hidden, but you are so powerful pumpkin” Carrie said, her voice full of pride “Every strong emotion would release a little bit of your scent and a new blanketing spell would be needed. Even so young, you commanded others with your presence and encouraged loyalties. We once had an alpha visit who our pack had not met before, from Germany. The pack agreed to meet on neutral territory out by the lake and far from our homes. Towards the end of the meeting, he and Jon didn’t see eye-to-eye about something and they both shifted, ready to fight. I stayed back in the house with you and Lily, but Liam and Peter were there with Jon”
“And out of nowhere, just as two bring strong alphas were about to fight, you appeared there” Jon cut in, his voice full of wonder “you walked between both of us, clutching a little bear and told us that fighting between us would cause so many lives and we had to work together. God! I have never been so scared in my life! Peter almost died on the spot! We had no idea where or how you came to be there, but all we saw was this four year old little girl, walking up to a shifted angry wolf; touch his jaw and whisper something to him and the next thing you know, he shifts and tells us he agrees to all the conditions of the treaty” Jon rubs his face with his hands, his body heaving “We were never so scared as we were in our life! When we asked you how you got there-”
“I...I...Think I went through the tree house” Gemma whispered
“t..That’s not possible” Liam said, his voice shaking
“It might be” Carrie replied. “All of you, tell me; why did you choose to sit where you have?”
“What do you mean mum?” Ben asked.
“When you all sat down, why did you pick these candles?” Carried asked “I saw you Ben, you were going to sit with Maddie but changed your mind. Why?”
“I...erm...I just felt like I should go there” He indicated to his candle
“Each candle is a representation of your role. The seer said that The Astrid was going to create a Circle of Council. Much like the round table of king Arthur, where a being from each supernatural circle would help police their people to keep it fair. The Astrid would also have her own house of Se’Roud - Guardians and advisers. Ben, your candle represents a guardian, one who will protect her at all costs. Maddie, you are her confidante, the one who will be by her side to run things through. Cindy, darling; you will be her reason. The one who can see more than what is shown and can help guide her in confusion”
“But what about Mark or Kyle?” Ben asked
“They are also part of this, but because of their age; there is much they are unable to do. It will be next year or so, I think, that they will show their loyalty. When they are back from being away in a few weeks time, we will speak to them” Carrie explained
“Mammie. What is the other part of the twin prophecies?” Gemma asked
“That is the only part I don’t know Pumpkin. The seer told Lily that there was another part and Lily said she would tell me, but not long after; there was another attack and everything changed” Carrie spoke as she paced the room, her hand rubbing her forehead “After the day you stopped Jon fighting, word spread of a little girl taming an alpha. We had to put on an extra strong spell on you to block out your powers. But there’s something else”
“Carrie don’t” Heather says, her voice shaking
“We have to, Heather. We need to know” Carrie said sympathetically “Gemma-”
Suddenly the faint sound of a phone ringing could be heard and everyone started to look around. Gemma gasped.
“T….That my phone. It’s my ringtone for Conner!” She said
Max growled in anger, his eyes flashing wolf as they both got up and tried looking for the mobile phone. Realising that it was coming from this room, Gemma looked at the warriors who opened the door and both she and Max ran to the kitchn where the sound was louder. Just as they got into the kitchen, it stopped ringing, only to start a few minutes later. Picking up, Gemma looked at Conner’s name flashing on the screen.
“Hey babe” He said “Where have you been for the last couple of days? I’ve not had anything from you”
“I...uh...erm,...there's been a death in the family” Gemma said as she looked at everyone who was now standing inside the kitchen
“What? Who?” Conner asked, his voice shocked
“Uuhh…..” She cut the phone and looked at everyone
“What do I say?” Gemma asked just as the phone rang again
“Just don’t answer” Max deeply growled
“Say that it was our extended gran and that you are in Lithuania” Cindy advised
While everyone gaped at her in surprise, she shrugged her shoulders “I just had a feeling he would try to contact her while we couldn’t see him. I had a cover story ready”
Carrie looked at Cindy in wonder, her eyes flashing at her daughter and looked at Heather who just shook her head. Hearing Gemma finish the conversation, they turned to look at her.
“I told him Im in lithuania for another few days and that the reception was bad so I may not be able to chat to him properly”
“I don’t like the timing of his call” Liam says as he looked at Jon who nodded
“Let’s go back. I think further explanations will need to be left for later. It is important we do the Recana’Ullta now”
“The what?” Gemma asked
As one group they turned back to go into the livingroom and Jon asked the warriors to shut and lock the door. Just as they were about to sit as they were before, Carrie stopped them.
“Everyone else, sit as you were in the circle, Pumpkin, I need you to sit in the middle” Carrie explained “Then I need you to lie back onto this pillow. Good. Ok everyone I need everyone of you guys to place your right hand on her. Ben you will place it on her left shoulder, Cindy on her right shoulder. Ok now Maddie you on her left arm and Max on her right arm”
Once everyone was in place, the parents formed a circle around them and Carrie sat behind Gemma, placing both her hands on top of her head.
“If Gemma hadn’t seen what she did at Conner’s flat, this wouldn’t be happening. Either Gemma would have remembered on her own after her twentieth birthday or we would have eased her into this but there’s no time.” Carrie said urgently “We are going to perform a spell, that will allow you all to see what happened on the day that your parents were attacked and killed pumpkin”
“What?” They all shouted as Gemma lifted her head from the pillow
“No!, don’t break the connection!” Carrie said as she pushed Gemma back down and told everyone to go back to their positions “This is a gift that I have as a Vo-Suie. I can only use it at a time of need, to see memories that were lost or hold some information. I will place you all under what will be, like a sleep induced coma. You will all live out the last scenes but remember, it can’t hurt you; no matter how powerful or scary the action is. You will only be there to observe, not interact and pumpkin; you are not going to be able to talk to your parents, or even the versions of us you see”
“And we will also be coming with you. We need this information that has been lost to you. Everything we told you about the attack has been true except about who your parents are and what happened after the car blew up” Heather said as she looked at the young group “But know that everything you see will be from your point of view and your mothers. The offspring is often able to tap into their mother's sight, especially if they are next in line to the future. Bu...But please...Know that what I did, I did because you were not ready” She said to Max.
“How do we come out of the memory?” Max asked “Does it mean we can’t see it again?”
“I would ask that you see it all until the memory fades. If we need to revisit the memory, we can; but it will require us to do this spell again” Carrie explains.
Lifting her hands back onto Gemma’s head, she asked all the children to bow their head as she chanted in a different language. After every few words, the rest of the adults would say a few words, almost as if someone says ‘ameen’ after a prayer.
“You will now go into a deep trance and your body will become weightless. I have spelled it to your hands won't fall from where you have placed them because in order for you to see what Gemma does, you need to be connected to her” Carrie explained to the sleeping children “You can hear and understand us but you can’t move and that’s ok, don’t be scared and Maxsius; you protect my little girl”
Max's face changed even with his eyes closed “Always. I will be with my little mate every step of the way”
“Maxsius” Heather’s voice called out “Do...Don’t let him get too mad at me”
“He will learn that it was for the best. I did” His voice gruff
“Innu abakanta illuana preiess” Carrie started to chant.
Gemma’s head started to feel heavy. Her breathing evening out, she closed her eyes as she felt herself drift off to sleep. Feeling peaceful she knew that something had to happen but couldn’t remember. Maybe it wasn’t anything important, maybe she should just keep on sleeping.
Open your eyes little mate
Maxsius...where are you? I can’t see you
One must open their eyes in order to see little mate he chuckled
Gemma opened her eyes slowly and saw Max/Maxsius as both her mates looked at her, concern present in their eyes. Suddenly she became aware of her surroundings. She was outside, the sun was bright and…..was that burning she smelled? Max helped her up and she saw Maddie, Cindy and Ben around her. Carrie walked towards her and kissed her forehead.
“Remember pumpkin, these are just memories. They can’t hurt you, at least not physically. You will move as fast or slow as the young you. If we get left behind, try to remember as much as possible”
“Maxsius will stay with you but if he can’t, don’t be afraid” Jon said, behind her
But Gemma has stopped listening. Her breath stuck in her chest. She was sure her heart had stopped too because in front of her, for the first time since she was five years old; was her father.
“Daddy” She whispered as she saw him fight two approaching rogues, his gun hitting them with bullets.
“Baby, he can’t hear you remember” Max said, taking her hand to stop her from moving forward.
Just as Gemma stops, she see’s Carrie fighting on her right side with a vampire and she gasps in shock at how clear the image is. She could see the weapon Carrie was using, the words being spoken. On her other side, Uncle Alpha, Pop Liam, a few warriors and her dad were fighting the oncoming attacks, their focus on trying to protect the car and the people in it.
Just then she hears what seems to be like a rocket hit through the left side window of the car and suddenly the car behind her father and in front of her burst into flames and she saw Carrie was thrown backwards.
“Nnnooo” Gemma whispers, her hand covering her mouth “Mum”
“Llllliiiillllyyyy, Gemma! NNNOOOO” Peter screamed as he ran to the car.
Looking inside he sees Lily curled up with a blue bubble around her form. Opening the broken door fully, he reached inside and touched her shoulders. Lily opened her eyes, dropping the shield around her as she lifted her head and uncurled her body. Within her embrace was Gemma, her eyes tightly squeezed shut, her small hand covering her ears just as her mother had told her to.
“Oh God! Oh thank god!. I thought ...I..i’d lost you both” Peter looked at Lily and frowned when he saw the top of her left side head, cut and slightly bleeding
Helping them both out of the car, Peter looked around and saw the fighting still going on and that Jon and Owen were protecting his back as he helped his family. Finally free of the car, Lily picked up Gemma and kissed Peter.
“Stay behind me Love. I will-”
He was cut off as a wolf stalked closer to them, its claws sharp, its jaws dripping saliva. Using his gun, Peter c****d it before firing, the bullet piercing the wolf's skin. Howling out in rage, the wolf alerted the others before finally dying.
“Run!” Carrie and Peter shouted together. There voices echoing from where they stood.
Before Lily could move, another three wolves stepped up behind her and started to growl. Owen and Peter started to fight with them, Owen fighting in his wolf form and Peter using his gun as Lily looked for an opening. Spotting a space, she turned and caught Peter’s eyes as she slowly moved. Another wolf jumped in front of her, growling menacingly and Lily used her hand to blast it with a blue energy beam, burning the wolf. It yipped as it tried to ease it’s pain and moved away from Lily. Peter grabbed Lily’s arm and pushed her towards the clearing, running with her as they left the others to fight.
“Mummy, Daddy wait!” Gemma shouted out as she started to run after them
“Gemma!”
“Gemz wait!”
Gemma heard her mate and friends cry out to her but she ignored them, instead following her parents as Lily held onto the young Gemma. Lily and Peter ran through the forest, their feet hitting the ground hard as they made their way back the same path towards their home. Every so often a wolf would jump out and try to attack, only for Peter to use his gun and either kill the wolf or damage it enough for them to keep running.
“You keep her safe no matter what Peter” Lily says as they near the house
“Do you really think I could go on if I lost either of you?”
“You need to! You-”
Suddenly she cut off when she saw three wolves in front of her, their chilling growels deep and loud, their unblinking red eyes focused on them. Lily gasped and knew she had to shift. There was no way Peter would be able to defend them with so many. Taking a step backwards until she was right against Peter, she put down Gemma quickly.
“Pumpkin, don’t move ok” She said
Peter c****d his gun and just as a brown rogue took that extra step forward, Lily seamlessly shifted into her wolf form, her white coat bright apart from a small streak of black on her underbelly. The rogues stopped for a moment, taking in the black colour, confusion on their face before jumping forward. Peter hit one wolf and killed him instantly just as another wolf launched itself at Lily, teeth bard.
Lily bit the wolf's hind leg, her teeth snapping down painfully and breaking skin. Using her smaller frame, she dragged her claws over its back and got in a few good bites on its behind before the male rogue managed to throw her off by biting her shoulder, his teeth slicing into her skin; leaving a trail of fire. Both wolves swiped at each other as they fought to pin their opponent down, their eyes only on their enemy.
Lily lunged at the rogue as it tried to use its claws, catching her on the side of her face and snout, the wound opening up and dripping blood. Feeling the pain build up, lily ran her tongue across to try steem the blood flow even as the rogue body slammed her and threw her away from her family. He stalked closer to her as she struggled to get up, her legs shaking. He limped closer and suddenly, Lily attacked; jumping above him on her two hind legs, her form changed midair, her legs now becoming a mix of wolf and human, body growing taller into a hybrid form.
Grabbing the rogue by its neck with her sharp teeth, she shook him a few times before throwing him against a tree, his body thumping down and lying on the ground. The rogue shook his head, his blood coating his fur as he tried to rise, but Lily wouldn’t let him. Using her powerful hybrid legs, she jumped and snapped her powerful jaws around his throat; biting down, her canines pierced his throat and with one move, her powerful bite ripped out her opponent's throat, his lifeless body falling down as she threw the head away from the body.
Peter had just managed to c**k his gun again when the third wolf jumped, its jaws open. The grey wolf flew over Peter’s head but his claws scratched his back, leaving a trail of blood. Peter cried out as he saw Gemma huddled close against a tree and tried to shield his pain and blood from her young innocent eyes. The wolf turned around and tried to attack but Peter managed to get off a shot, hitting the wolf on its right shoulder, the bullet creating a hole. The wolf staggered a little, the silver working against its body’s natural healing process. Sensing it wasn’t going to live long, it jumped, it’s mouth open to deliver a deadly bite, but Peter was prepared and fired a shot. Right through his open mouth, the brains of the wolf flying out from behind his head as he hits the grass; dead and broken
Looking up, he sees Lily, her hybrid form ripping off the wolf's head and throwing it away before howling in triumph. He smiled as he saw her shift back, her form becoming smaller as she closed her eyes and wished for new clothes to be on her body. She scooped up Gemma and turned around as she walked forward,
“Hurry Peter. We are only a few minutes away, I’ve let Jon and Carrie know where we are”
“Lily, you know how to use the coding right?” Peter asked as he hoisted tucked in the gun and ran behind his wife.
“Daddy” Gemma called out, her face over her mother's shoulder
“It's ok pumpkin. We are going to play that hide-and-seek game now ok?”
“But daddy, look-” She says, her hand pointing
Before Peter could fully turn around, a clawed hand shot through Peter's stomach, his agonized shout causing Lily to turn. She screamed when she saw what had happened to her husband while shielding Gemma’s eyes.
Standing behind Peter was a vampire, his dark brown hair cut close to his head, his skin leathery as if he spent too much time in the sun, which wasn’t possible unless he was turned with that look. He stood at least 6 foot tall, his light blue jeans and top now dark and covered in blood. Peter’s blood.
“NNOOOOOO PETER!!!!” Lily screamed, taking a few steps back
The vampire twisted his hand and brought it back out of Peter, covered in blood and gore as his evil laugh contorted his face into something demonic. Peter's knees gave out as he clutched his bleeding stomach, trying to cover the hole that was now gaping wide open; blood trickling out from the side of his mouth.
“Going somewhere?” The vampire asked
Lily put down Gemma before using both hands to blast the vampire,
“Impossible! You are just human” He hissed
Lily couldn’t speak as her heart constricted at feeling her mate's pain; the feeling so intense that she faltered for a few seconds, letting the vampire try to hit back with his own powers. Using his mind, the vampire moved rocks and smaller shrubs, aiming them at Lily and trying to throw her off; but she was focused even as her eyes watered. She took a deep breath and allowed her hybrid form to come through her eyes as the vampire gasped, his body shaking for a few minutes before he tried harder. But Lily was done playing. She allowed her hybrid form to take on the power from its surrounding and make the beam from her hands light up enough to turn it into ultraviolet, burning the vampire from the inside
“AAARRRGHHHH…...NOOOooo” He shouted just as Lily stopped.
The vampire looked down and saw white lines running over his hands and up his arms as it reached his face. Grabbing his head he started screaming, his face now looking like snakes were running under his skin.
“Wh...what..have...you f*****g done!!” He screamed
Before Lily could answer, he started hitting his body as flames started jumping up from his skin. Screaming and swearing, his body caught fire and he started to burn out from within his own body. He looked like someone had set him on fire and while it may seem that this all took a long time to happen, it was all within seconds. The flames eventually engulfed his face, his eyes melted as they fell from his sockets, his skin charring and melting off before his body collapsed into itself as his bones turned into ash.
Lily created a spell so Gemma wouldn’t see the full extent of the damage as she ran to her mate. She kneeled down and took his hand in hers
“Peter! Peter oh god!”
“Lily” He coughed, blood now pouring from his mouth
“Its all my fault….all...my-” Lily cried, her heart breaking at the image in front of her
“Yo..u...need t...to go. S...av..e her” He said, his voice weaker
“No! No! I c..ant leave you” She cried, her tears now mixing with his blood
“Y..o.you..hav...e...to. S..he’s th...the...on..ly...one that...matters” His voice breaking in between his words
“I..I can..fix.this” Lily said, her voice shaking “I...I..can-”
“You...can..t fix this lily fl..flower. Not..wit...without was..ting time”
His hands became cold, his words now slurred as the blood loss started to take what was left of his energy.
“Daddy” Gemma cried out, her eyes not understanding but her heart realising that something was wrong with her father
“Pu..mpkin...lov..ve you. Never….reg..ret,,,ted an...y...of it. Ple..ase my flo..wer….run”
And with that, Peter took his last breath, copious blood now running out of his mouth, the blood from his wound soaking the grass around him to a deep black colour as his shuddering body finally stilled. Lily screamed out in agony, her two wolves howling their pain, her body glowing dark blue in agony.
“Daddy”
Coming back to herself and realising that they were still in danger, Lily stood up, slipping her bloodied hand out from her cold, dead mates hand. Turning to Gemma, she changed into her hybrid form, knowing that this strength and stamina would be the only way to take Gemma where she had to be. She picked Gamma up and put her onto her back before turning to look at her dead mates cold body one last time, her tears soaking her fur. Turning around, howling her pain one more time, Lily ran towards their house; her only goal was to protect and hide her daughter from the monsters that were hunting her down. Knowing that the only way to do that was to fight for their lives, she had to hide Gemma; Lily prayed that what she suspected would come true.
I’m so sorry Heather. I need him. He belongs to her
“Why are you saying sorry to auntie Luna mummy?” Gemma asked, her hair now in disarray as it whips around her from the speed her mother ran
Lily was shocked that Gemma heard her thoughts, realising how powerful her daughter really was. “Because I am hoping someone important to her will come protect you, even if it might be dangerous. Pumpkin, how did you hear my inside voice”
“I can hear everyone inside voice” she innocently says “Mummy, why did daddy fall asleep on the grass? Won’t he get cold?”
Lily choked, her legs stumbling before righting herself. “Just keep looking forward pumpkin. Daddy will be back later”
Her hybrid form picked up the sounds of wolves behind her. A long way behind her but she didn’t want to take a chance. She needed to hide Gemma now! Pushing herself harder, Lily vered off the set path she and Peter plotted if the unthinkable ever happened, but she now knew she couldn’t take that path.
She couldn’t take that path because that was where those wolves attacked, where her mate was slaughtered in the most brutal way by a mid-level vampire.
She couldn’t use that path because that path was a contingency plan that a select few in their pack knew about.
She couldn’t use that path because someone betrayed them and told their enemies how to find that path.
