The Cowgirl Queen

"NO!, NO!...GET OFF ME NOW! DON'T TOUCH ME! TAKE YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF ME NOW YOU BASTARD!"......... ...... ...... BEEP-BEEP--BEEP-BEEP--BEEEEEPPPPP!!!! goes the alarm clock as Cadence wakes up, her oversized night shirt completely drenched in the nasty, cold sweat..AGAIN..."UGHHH not again," Cadence mumbles to herself as she sits up, rubbing the sleep out of her currently bright baby blue eyes, in a few minutes who knows what color eyes she will have, as her soft irises are ever changing colors indicating the royal genetics she received straight from the moon goddess Selene herself.... anyways that's the seventh night in a row Cadence has woke up from the never-ending, always reoccurring nightmare.... Who'd have thought that the tiny baby girl with soft curly white as snow hair swaddled in a blanket with a rocking horse on it left in an old dresser drawer in what remains of her Nana's old abandoned house trailer would someday be queen who was destined to rule the land, the mountains, and all things in between; for it is here in the heart of the Appalachian Mountain range from Western West Virginia, to just past the border of Eastern KY where she was born, raised, and will someday reign as the true Luna Queen she is destined to be. Cadence looks at the clock, it's blurry.. "s**t! where is my glasses?" she curses, as she frantically feels around for them, finding them and quickly sliding them on her face. She looks again, now clearly seeing the clock... HOLY COW! 4:15AM... "I'M LATE! I OVER SLEPT..AGAIN..... Suddenly, she hears a loud,angry and impatient kick sounding off the wall in the barn. Yep, she's definitely late, and the horses are demanding breakfast NOW! Begrudgingly, she drags her sleep deprived, over worked body out-of bed and pulls on her boots and makes her way in the dark, walking the path to the barn by memory to go feed her beloved horses. She gets to the barn, and "Oof," she grunts as she realized she walked right smack into the gate that is shut tight across the entry way. Fumbling blindly in the dark to the left, she finds the light switch and flips it on. Adjusting to the bright blinding light of the LED lights herself, she looks up, and all three horses are squinting their eyes, adjusting to the bright LED lights installed in the center of the barn aisle. As if on cue, Tacoma bangs on her stall door, Luna starts tossing her head and loudly snorts, and Chance screams his good morning, then quietly knickers softly at Cadence. This is their every morning routine. Cadence makes haste and grabs the feed buckets that, thankfully was pre fixed the night before, dashing to Tacomas stall first, unlocking the door, yelling at Tacoma to scoot her booty, and dumps the feed, next is Luna who is pawing impatiently, Cadence steps in, dumps the feed in her bucket, and WHAM!, Luna swings her head and head butts Cadence, making a full contact connection.. Cadence stumbles backwards, shakes it off because she's "tough as nails"and then moves on to feed her best boy Chance. Always thankful for him being older, and ever so patient..."Good boy, Bubba. Thank you for being so patient" Cadence whispers to Chance as he dives in for his breakfast. Cadence remains still in Chances stall for just a quick minute breathing in the smells of the barn, the hay, the sawdust, the horses, and yes, even the manure. It smells like home, it is the only constant steady and chaos free zone in Cadence's life, even if it is just for a few,short,brief moments before scurrying off to get ready for a hard day of work at her human job, as the CEO, and owner of CLT Farm Seed & Feed, one of the biggest low-cost feed-seed hardware, everything supply store franchises throughout the Appalachian Mountain chain. It is here, in the heart of these mountains, where she has sacrificed, everything from blood, sweat and tears right down to her sanity to be able to stake her claim, and painfully, and slowly build her own empire where she can rule as the Queen of the Calf Creek pack that owns one of the largest territories in Eastern Kentucky.
