Chapter 7“Can I go to Gram’s house tonight?” Adam didn’t look up from his book, but he stopped reading. “Can I? Hello? Are you listening to me?” “Are you talking to me?” Adam asked. “Yes.” He glanced at her. “Why on earth are you asking me?” “Dad said I shouldn’t bother him tonight because he has some freelance work to do, and I want to go to Gram’s.” Adam set the book aside. “School starts on Monday, doesn’t it?” Colette blinked. “Yes.” “Don’t you have to do things to get ready for the fifth grade?” “No. Really, I’m all ready.
