Chapter 1 - Rebirth of Luna (Part 2)

1613 Words
She did not expect Abey to come back. Her heart welled with uncontrollable emotion as she realized that she had been reborn - a second chance, per se. Her laughter turned into suppressed sobs, her hand clutching the fabric of the silk slip-on around her chest tightly, as though her emotions could all be contained in that clenched fist of hers. She bit her lip until it bled, her silent cries gone unheard in the night. The crimson moonlight served as her only solace, transforming her tears into droplets of blood that splattered onto the sheets. Perhaps this was an ironic reminder of the day her Alpha shed blood to save her life. Tears streamed down Luna’s face as she bathed in the realization that she was now reborn, and it was her chance now to avenge that powerful man. All she ever wanted was for him to live a good and happy life, and if it hadn’t been her naivety in her previous life, he would not have had to die to save her. She had already avenged him in her previous life, but if the people in this life dared to plot against both of them again, Luna would make it a promise to have them tortured to death. She took a deep breath to steady herself before retreating into her bathroom. She turned on the shower to the coldest setting, attempting to soothe her mind and emotions, as well as wash away the evidence of her tears. She allowed her eyes to flutter shut as she let a sigh escape her lips, feeling the cool water flow down her body. She emptied her mind, allowing herself to believe that her troubles were being washed down the drain. She soon stepped out of the shower, before raising her eyes to look at her reflection in the mirror. She took in her appearance, scrutinizing every inch of her reborn body. She admired her well-proportioned figure which revealed youthful vigor, and nobody would have believed that this beautiful woman in the mirror would become a hunched old woman with white hair in just ten years. Luna reached out a tentative arm to touch her right leg, which was smooth and warm to the touch. She winced and shivered as she remembered what had happened to it in her previous life, the memories of Imala chopping off her legs into pieces to be fed to dogs flashing through her mind. She remembered how helpless she felt. Powerless. Defeated. The reminder of the physical pain and psychological torture made Luna lurch forward, her hands clinging to the bathroom sink to support her weight. She let out a whimper as she gathered up the strength to lift up her head to look at herself in the mirror once again, the pain in her violet orbs now gleaming with determination. “Let’s see who gets the last laugh in this life,” spat Luna through gritted teeth, her lips pulled into a tight line. Her voice was thick with resentment, and hoarse after her breakdown just moments ago in the bedroom. Just then, Luna felt a warmth in her chest, and looked down. “Abey, you feel that too, don’t you? He’s alive, he’s back…” whispered Luna, stroking her chest fondly. She could feel Abey’s response through her hot chest, and for the first time tonight, a genuine smile made its way across Luna’s face. * Back in the living room, Hassun was becoming impatient. “Why hasn’t she come out yet?” he grumbled. Luna has never made him wait for her before, but instead happily ran to him every time he came to the Naesbrey Castle. “I’ve been sitting here for ages, is no one going to serve me some coffee?” complained Hassun in irritation. Despite being a guest in the Naesbrey Castle, he assumed the position of a host. The maid Tehya, who was standing in the corner, hastily poured a cup of coffee and handed it to Hassun upon hearing his complaints. He pretended to reach for it, before letting go, watching as the cup fell to the floor and spilled hot liquid all over Tehya’s feet. Her toes curled up reflexively, but instead of letting out a scream of pain, allowed her head to hang down and stepped back. Imala watched all of this happen while perched on the couch cockily, arrogance plastered across her face. She sneered at Tehya, pouting in mockery. “Luna Chenoa is too much. It is terribly impolite of her to keep you, her guest, waiting for so long!” exclaimed Imala at Hassun. She was criticizing Luna in front of her own guest, but no one dared to object to Imala’s rude remark simply because she was someone recommended to the castle by Beta Hassun himself. “That’s all right, Imala. Don’t be mad, not everyone is as cute and understanding as you are,” replied Hassun, petting her head fondly. Hearing this, Imala gave Hassun a sickeningly sweet smile, evident smugness in her eyes. The man Luna loved was here with her, and loved her, a lowly maid. Although she gloated over this, the thought of Alpha Matwau crossed her mind. That powerful man only loved Luna, and jealousy simmered in Imala’s heart. Surely, I can do better than Luna, she thought to herself. She grumbled once again as she recounted the failure of her plan to ruin and humiliate Luna earlier in the night. She had initially planned to take Luna’s nude photos and post them online, in a ruse to taint Luna’s reputation. Just as she was basking in her own disappointment and loss of opportunity, the door of the living room swung open, revealing Luna in a red dress. She looked beautiful, hands clasped in front of her in confidence and purpose. The two guards who opened the doors stood on both sides of the doorway, bowing respectfully and waited for her to enter the room. Hassun and Imala were taken aback for a moment. Luna had never put on airs in front of them before, so they almost forgot that she was the only master in the Naesbrey Castle, apart from Alpha. Luna’s eyes swept across the room before landing on Hassun and Imala, and noticed Hassun’s hand that was still resting on Imala’s head. Luna couldn’t help but feel a sense of rage creeping in. She refused to believe that she had betrayed Alpha Matwau for Hassun, and never realized the lies Hassun had always told her. How could she not have realized that they were all lies, and that Hassun had hooked up with Imala long ago. How could she believe the empty words from Hassun saying how much she loved her? Luna felt rage well up in her once again, forcing a swallow to get rid of the lump she felt in her throat. They both had used her to usurp the Alpha’s position, orchestrating a grand scheme that forced Alpha Matwau to sacrifice himself to save Luna. Luna remembered every detail in her past life vividly, and it was a pity she had killed them in such a quick and crisp way. No, they deserve to suffer more for what they did, thought Luna, trying her best to suppress her rage and regret. Hassun quickly realized his improper behavior and removed his hand from Imala’s head hastily, giving a small smile in Luna’s direction. He straightened himself and clasped his hands behind his back, gazing with forced tenderness at Luna. This was a complete change from his impatient demeanor just moments ago. “No wonder it took you so long to come. You really did not have to dress up, given what a close relationship we have with each other,” began Hassun, trying his best to appear well-meaning. Luna said nothing, maintaining an unreadable expression. Noticing that Luna was not going to respond, Hassun continued awkwardly, “But with that said, you look divine, Luna.” Instead of responding to his compliment, Luna looked past him and strode toward the middle of the room and sat down, silently proclaiming her title as the hostess. Hassun stiffened as Luna did this, as she used to sit by his side. Luna sat back and was satisfied to witness Hassun’s discomfort at her actions. In her previous life, she only did it to spare his feelings, but to hell if he thought she would do the same in this life. Finally, Luna opened her mouth to speak. “As an uninvited trespasser, you should feel honored that I even agreed to meet with you,” said Luna, her voice echoing confidently in the room as Hassun and Imala kept quiet, unsure of the situation. “What are you two waiting for? Hurry up, people are queuing up to speak with me. Do not waste my time,” said Luna, waving a hand in the air dismissively. She was not simply bragging, as being Luna of the Green Forest Pack, her status was second only to the Alpha. Needless to say, she was well-aware of how much power she held. Hassun’s expression darkened as the words left Luna’s lips, studying Luna’s change in demeanor. He couldn’t quite put a finger on it, and did not understand why she was different now. Luna noticed this, but instead chose to ignore Hassun and turned her attention to Imala. “You, serve me a cup of coffee,” demanded Luna. Taken aback, Imala looked behind her before looking back at Luna with eyes wide open. She pointed at herself before asking, “You…you asked me to serve you coffee?”
