Luna’s eyes were filled with worry as she ran through the hallways, recalling the events from her previous life that happened on this very same night. Her Alpha had fallen into Hassun’s trap and lost an eye. Her heart seized with sorrow, welling with pity for her lover. Her footsteps quickened as did her heartbeat, desperate to stop the same thing from happening to her Alpha yet again. No, not in this lifetime, thought Luna, striding forward with renewed determination.
She reached her room and stopped, turning to face her bodyguard. He was always quiet and never said anything unless Luna talked to him, and so it was not uncommon for Luna to often forget about his presence around her. “Etu,” called Luna, looking him in the eyes with a slight frown creasing her forehead. He nodded his head in acknowledgement before stepping forward into the light, awaiting his master’s command.
“Can you contact our Alpha right now?” I asked Etu, searching Etu’s eyes earnestly. He lowered his eyes and hesitated before responding. “No…I cannot. I tried contacting him last night, but got no response,” Etu said finally, observing Luna. Her eyes fluttered shut when she heard those words, worry building inside her. Luna tried hard to push unpleasant images out of her mind, before finally opening her eyes once again to face Etu confidently.
“Let’s go find him then.”
Etu was surprised for a moment, but didn’t object. As her assigned bodyguard, he must absolutely comply with his master’s every wish. Besides, he would rather not risk making Alpha Matwau angry if he finds out Etu did not obey Luna’s orders. Luna was busy stashing her essentials into a backpack when she suddenly froze. According to the Pack Law, all affairs of the pack would be assigned to be under Beta Hassun’s authority when both the masters of the Naesbrey Castle were out. Luna’s mouth involuntarily curved downward in dissatisfaction when she realized the predicament that she was in.
The Werewolf Sacrifice was just around the corner, and Luna couldn’t risk the same thing happening again. In her previous life, Hassun took advantage of Matwau's absence and slandered him at the sacrificial altar by falsely accusing the Alpha of wanting to start a war between packs. This stirred up unrest in the packs gathered at the altar, and they began to lose their trust and confidence in their Alpha. Hassun, the scheming snake, made it a show to discuss the sacrifice with Luna when she was still in the castle, no doubt an effort to keep his wicked plan under wraps and to prevent Luna from getting suspicious. Once she left the castle, Hassun no longer had any obstacles in his path.
If this is the case, my only option is to sneak away, thought Luna. Her hands rested on her hips, deep in thought, and Etu could only stand and observe Luna in amusement. Finally, a wicked glint appeared in Luna’s eyes, disappearing as quickly as it came. “Etu, I need you to prepare something for me. I need gasoline - oh, and a very strong rope…” started Luna, distracted as she was trying to undo the dress she was wearing hurriedly. Etu cleared his throat awkwardly, not knowing where to look before finally giving up and turning his body to face the wall. s**t, Alpha would kill me if he sees this, thought Etu, sliding his hand across his face in embarrassment.
“Oh, and one more thing-” said Luna, a finger pointing up in the air as she looked Etu up and down. “-sportswear. Change into sportswear,” finished Luna with a mischievous grin. Etu looked confused, as he glanced down at the smart black suit he was wearing. He was about to protest but Luna cut him off. “Chop, chop! Hurry up and go get changed as I have ordered, or are you a p*****t wanting to stay in my room and watch as I get changed out of this? I cannot guarantee that our Alpha will not get angry and-” Luna wasn’t given enough time to complete her sentence as Etu stumbled out of the room hastily, mumbling something that Luna assumed to be an apology. He shut her door quickly, and Luna could hear his footsteps slowly disappearing into the distance.
She was left all alone yet again, and smiled to herself. Why do bodyguards always wear black suits anyway? They were not at all conducive for fighting, thought Luna as she sat on the bed and took out her phone. She scrolled to find a file before keying in the password. This file was entrusted to her by her Alpha, and it contained detailed and comprehensive information about all the servants working in the Naesbrey Castle. She searched up Tehya’s information, which showed a sincerity level of four out of five stars. Hmm, good enough, thought Luna as she scanned through her profile.
She found that Tehya was only 22 years old, but had been working in the Naesbrey Castle for a decade already, and it was information that caught Luna by surprise. Not only did it display Tehya’s loyalty, but Luna found it strange as servants who have worked for more than 5 years in the castle would usually be enjoying rich rewards already and be promoted to important positions.
Luna continued scouring through Tehya’s profile before finding the information that answered her questions. Tehya stayed in Naesbrey Castle to serve because of her father, who made a mistake and was marked as a rogue by the former Alpha and was expelled from the pack. Sympathy rose in Luna’s heart, and she sent for Tehya.
It was not long before Luna heard a timid knock on her door. “Come in,” answered Luna. She looked up from her packing as Tehya entered the room with her head down, nervously clasping her hands. Luna observed that she had a slight limp, and glanced down at her feet. The spot where the coffee Hassun spilled scalded Tehya had left a bright red burn, and Luna sucked in a sharp breath through her teeth as she could imagine the pain Tehya was feeling. Sympathy for the poor girl in front of her grew even more, as Tehya did not complain and tried her best to hide her pain, standing quietly a few feet away from her.
Luna decided not to beat around the bush and confronted the girl directly. "I know what you're up to, after 20 years of work in Naesbrey Castle and a merit badge, you can ask my Alpha for a reward. I know you want to save your father," said Luna matter-of-factly, waiting for a reaction from Tehya. Upon hearing the mention of her father, she became visibility irritated and tears immediately filled her eyes. “My father was framed! He did not do it, he is innocent!” blurted out Tehya, hands swinging out around her in exasperation.
She was about to let out another outburst when Luna raised her hand to stop her, her violet eyes gazing tenderly at Tehya. Tehya quieted immediately, but her expression failed to conceal her genuine confusion and curiosity at Luna’s sudden interest in her background. “I do not know what happened in the past, but I promise I will not judge. However, I have a task at hand that I need your help with,” began Luna carefully, noticing that she has caught Tehya’s full attention. “I promise that if you help me with this, your reward is my help in clearing your father’s name,” finished Luna. Tears welled up in Tehya’s eyes once again, and she flung herself at Luna’s feet in gratitude. “Thank you, Luna Chenoa! I’ll do anything that you want!” she blurted out, her appreciation coming out in a jumble of utterances.
Luna smiled, before beckoning Tehya close and whispering in her ear.
Tehya’s eyes widened in shock when Luna finally pulled away, evidently shocked at the plan Luna had come up with. Despite this, she still nodded in response, leaving the room after excusing herself.
