Chapter One
I was sitting at a bar taking a break from work. I was enjoying my drink when a group of guys surrounded me and proceeded to hit on me. It was one of those days that I wanted to be left alone.
So I asked nicely, "Please go away."
One of the guys said, "Oh come on baby. All we want is to have some fun." He grabbed some of my long black hair and I stiffened when he nipped my neck. The bartender turned around to give me another drink and saw the look on my face. He stiffened too, then slowly backed away to go call 9-1-1 for the guys. It's a pity really. The guys were very cute.
Too bad though, they wanted to treat me like a hook-up.
The guy that had grabbed my hair tried to jerk my head back and kiss me, but I surprised him when I stood up. Whirling around to look at him, so fast that my bangs that covered my right eye flew to the side. He got a look at the scar that I had gotten while fighting some drunks in the very same bar.
I put my hand on his neck and gripped hard. It tightened and tightened until he finally let go of my hair. I knew he could see something going out of control, and he whimpered pathetically, which made me laugh.
I threw him through a window into the street. I turned slightly to the other shocked guys before speaking, "Get out now, or I'm gonna have to mess up those pretty faces of yours. Got it? If I see or even hear you hurt or talk badly to another woman again. You're gonna end up dead."
I turned fully to look at them. "And now you can either walk away or stay and end up like him out there. He made the mistake of not listening to my wish of being left alone. Now. Get. Out."
To my joy, they paid for my drink and said they would pay for the replacement window, then left. I laughed when the guy tried to get up and followed his friends, but he was still dizzy and ran into a steel light pole.
I sat back down on my chair and asked for another drink in a cold, tired tone, but as nicely as possible, he gave me a knowing look. Not surprising considering he is my older brother. He reached under the bar to give me a brush with a ponytail holder so I could put my hair up.
Back home, my big brother's name is Killer Wolf or that’s what he preferably goes by. His real name is Leon, here in this realm.
He raised me when our parents passed away, trying to protect us when I was about ten and Killer Wolf was sixteen. People were attacking us, our home and all I could feel was this power building up, and I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I finally unleashed it and I passed out because of it. The killer turned into a wolf while letting out a scary howl and caught me as I fell from the stairs.
He looked at our parents and gave a small goodbye howl before taking me away. I awoke during the sad goodbye and cried while clinging to my brother's thick reddish silver fur, begging for him to take us back so I could die with our family. My mother, being wise and always prepared, told me not to go back to them. I needed to stay with Killer should something happen to them. I was tired after releasing all that dark power and I fell back asleep.
I was so exhausted that I couldn’t zap Killer to stop him, so instead I slept on his back while he ran. When I finally woke up, Killer had changed back and got us a hotel room. He was carrying me in his arms, getting ready to go up some stairs, but wasn’t surprised when I jumped out of his arms and tried to attack him. However much I tried, I couldn’t as my hands were tangled in my hair. I slowly walked into the room, becoming fully awake, also becoming glad that I wasn’t able to attack my brother. I don’t remember anything prior to my nap, just waking up in Killer's arms in front of the hotel.
Leon told me everything that happened and since then he has been raising me into adulthood. He still has to make sure I stay out of trouble, but with my jobs it's almost impossible. I figured out how to help out with paying the bills, but I'm not sure my brother knew how I was doing it. I, at least, waited until I was fifteen to start regular work.
I do know that he, however, did appreciate my help over the years. Back to the here, and now, I was putting my hair up into a ponytail when another fight broke out and this time I definitely wasn’t involved.
However, I could tell they were not drunk. I walked over to them and pulled them both apart. Both mad with wide eyes and whimpering.
They were looking at me like I was the devil or something, which is accurate, considering my bad mood. I took them to the back room so I could talk to them and get the story, but before I could get the door closed, they started talking at once.
One said "We were told to find and give this to you. Sorry, but we must go now." They handed me a letter with mine and Leon's name on it.
