Chapter 2- Becoming a Herald

1595 Words
Relief, Regret, Sorrow...These three feelings gripped Gunter's heart. Darkness That was the only thing Gunter could see. Darkness that covered everything, threatening to even devour him. And this feeling of weightlessness persisted...like he was floating. "Where I'm I...?" Gunter muttered. "You are in the presence of a god, kneel!" A thunderous voice responded immediately and out of the darkness came a bright light, brighter than anything Gunter had seen before. The light blinded his vision and at the same time a force acted on him plunging his body downwards. He then landed violently on his knees but he didn't seem to take any damage. The bright light took over the darkness, illuminating the place at once. Now Gunter could see where he was. He was in the middle of a huge palace decorated with gold and other precious stones. Ahead of him was a large throne made of Saphhire with two huge sword bearing statues on both sides of the throne. A figure dressed in black and white armour sat on the throne in all majesty and his eyes fixated on Gunter. Gunter's heart raced. Never in his life had he beheld a sight such as this. The beauty of the palace overwhelmed him but the Deathly Aura coming from the Man in armour was enough to overshadow it all. "I'm I dead....or is this a dream ?" Gunter asked. The last thing he could remember was falling inside the pit with Tyler. And now he was seeing this strange place. It could only be two things, either he was dead and this was the afterlife or he's just in a dream... “You are dead" The figure said, his words shocking Gunter to the core. "You made the wrong decision in life, and that is what brought you here" The figure said and got up from the throne. His footsteps echoed through the place as he neared Gunter. "W...what do you mean?" Gunter asked. Fear gripping his heart as he heard the Man's words. The Man stopped in front of Gunter and after a brief moment he raised his two hands and opened a scroll. He then spoke. "Gunter Hilderstone, Born July 1st 2003. Died November 28 2023" the Man said and paused before continuing "Found Guilty of The Sin of Murder, Sentenced to a thousand years of torture in hell before total erasal of existence" "W...wh...what?! H...hey W...wha...what do you mean a th...thousand years of torture in hell?!!" Gunter spoke in disbelief. He was being sentenced to a thousand years of torture in hell for what?! What f*****g bullshit was that?! "Silence!" The Man spoke, a strong gust of wind accompanying his speech. "You are found guilty for the Murder of Tyler Brown. Are you not?" The Man asked. "Ty...Tyler? Tyler!" As Gunter heard the name all the hatred that had accumulated in his heart years ago poured out at that very moment "And so what? He f*****g deserved it! He bullied me for years. Beat me up multiple times! And tried assaulting my sister! He f*****g deserved what he got" Gunter laid his feelings bare. He didn't care who it was that was in front of him, he would stand his ground when it came to the decision he made in his final.moments. His only regret was dying on his sister. "I see...I agree with you that his murder was Justified but Your sentence has already been passed mortal, your complaints serve no purpose here" the Man said "No no no no no no! Please change your decision! Please!!" Gunter screamed. He couldn't handle the thought of torture for a thousand years. For an action that he felt was justified at that! The punishment was too harsh. "Ay...the Judge has already Decided your punishment, Interfering wouldn't look too good for me...." The Man said and placed his hand on his chin. Gunter was in tears at this point and snot dripped down his nose. All pride left his body and he threw himself at the Man's feet, hugging it with both hands while he pleaded "please!!! I'll do anything please!!" A glint flashed past the Man's eyes as Gunter uttered those words, it seemed like he just heard what he'd been waiting to hear for a long while. And without wasting time he spoke. "I will give you a chance then. If you prove you can become my herald then I would revert your punishment and give you a second chance at life. And you would also get to see your sister again" "M...my sister?" Gunter was flabbergasted by the Man's sudden change of mind. "If you don't want it then I'll just go ahead and pass the final judgement" the Man said. "I accept I accept I accept!!" Gunter quickly said before the man could change his mind once more. The Man had offered to give him another chance at living again, and a chance to see his sister once more. He would be a fool to pass this opportunity when his only other option was a thousand years of torture. "Very well then. I hope you won't disappoint" The man said and placed his hand on Gunter's shoulder. Instantly, Gunter felt a huge wave of power wash over him. His veins bulged and his eyes glowed. He felt....powerful. The Man placed a black sword in Gunter's hand and slowly faded away, with his words echoing in the palace "I have temporarily imbued you with a portion of my strength. Defeat my Guardian and you shall become my herald. A herald of the gods" As the last word sounded, the eyes of one of the stone statues that stood beside the sapphire throne suddenly opened. Accompanied by some cracks here and there, the stone statue finally stood up, easily towering above anything present in the room. The eyes of the statue landed on Gunter and it ran towards him, swinging it's sword as it did. Gunter was shocked at this sudden development but he had no time to think, he had to act as fast as he could. He swung the black sword towards the statue, which moved faster than he thought it would. He had no experience in fighting. He had no idea how he was going to do this. But it was either this or torture and true death. And although he had contemplated suicide multiple times before, now that he was faced with the reality....he chose life. Bang! A sudden surge of confidence rose in Gunter as his sword collided with that of the Stone statue's sword. The power from it sent him flying back and crashing into the palace wall but he regained his footing and charged. He had a fierce look in his eyes, a look of a warrior making his last stand. Gunter swung his sword but with no experience his attack was easily parried and the sword of the statue struck him across the shoulder. Gunter crashed to the floor and winced in pain. But he didn't even have enough time before the stone statue got close again and tried to end his life really this time. His instincts quickly kicked in and he rolled across the floor, narrowly avoiding the sword of the statue that plunged deep into the palace floor. "quickly! Now's your chance mortal!" The Voice of the man sounded and alerted Gunter. Gunter looked and realised that the statue was struggling to get its sword out of the ground. He quicky got on his feet, disregarding the painful cut on his shoulder and ran towards the statue. This time he didn't just swing blindly, after several clashes he was smart enough to know that swinging blindly wouldn't do any damage. This time he climbed atop the statue. Taking advantage of his miniscule size compared to the Statue. Once he was on top he stabbed. Stabbed as much as he could. For the first time the statue let out a roar of pain and stopped trying to get it's sword out, instead focusing on the ant that pestered it. Gunter was unyielding. He avoided the hand of the statue that tried to fling him off and instead used the opportunity to keep stabbing various parts of the stone statue's body. The stone statue kept screaming, at a loss of what to do. The little ant was just too cunning. Gunter's eyes were wide open as he travelled all over the Statue's body, stabbing like a maniac. He was determined not to lose! This slow death continued on for hours until the stone statue finally gave up and fell flat on the floor in defeat. Gunter crashed along with it. He had several cuts and bruises on his body and seemed to have bled a s**t ton of blood. Silence returned to the palace once more as the two lay unmoving on the floor. The Man in black armour appeared with his hand behind his back and he walked over to Gunter, nodding his head in approval. There was a reason why he had chosen this mortal to be his candidate, and it showed. "Very well then. You have proved to be a worthy bearer of my name. A herald of gods. A herald of the God of Light and darkness. You shall be reincarnated into the world of thorns. Bring me my prize and I shall give you your life. A better life than that you once had, with you sister by your side. Do my bidding and Live!" The man's voice echoed and Gunter's vision ceased along with his consciousness.
