Chapter1
OLIVIA'S POV I strutted into the bar, feeling the excitement bubbling within me. “ID,” the bouncer commanded, his tone gruff. I rolled my eyes but complied, pulling out my card from my purse and handing it over. He flashed me a grin that made my skin crawl. “Eugh,” I thought, grimacing. “Just do your job, mister.” I snatched my ID back, determined not to let him ruin my night. That night was one for celebration. My friends and I made our way inside, and I couldn’t help but notice the bar's sophisticated ambiance. It had the kind of look that screamed high maintenance, the sort of place where top CEOs or big shots in finance might hang out. “This bar looks kind of high maintenance,” I said, raising an eyebrow at my friend. “Are you sure we have the budget for it?” “Oh, come on, Olivia!” she replied with a laugh. " It’s on us. In like two days, we’re all heading out of state for our jobs. You just landed your literal dream job. We have just graduated from college, and who knows when we’ll all be together like this again? So let’s make this night count and party! Ahhhh!!!” She screamed the last part, dragging me further into the bar. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and I couldn’t help but laugh as we found a spot near the dance floor. The music was loud, the lights were bright, and the energy in the room was electric. We ordered drinks, toasting to our futures and the incredible journeys ahead. I sipped my cocktail, savoring the sweetness mixed with the sharp tang of alcohol. As we drank to our fill, I couldn’t lie—I was beginning to feel the alcohol’s warm, dizzying embrace. My laughter came more easily, and everything around me seemed brighter, more vibrant. I glanced around the bar, taking in the sophisticated decor and the well-dressed patrons. It was then that I saw him. He stood at the bar counter, a good-looking man in a sharp Italian suit and coat. His presence was magnetic, his smile a charismatic pull that I couldn’t quite explain. Our eyes met, and in that instant, it felt like the world around us blurred and faded away. My heart skipped a beat, and I felt my cheeks flush with a mix of excitement and nerves. He gave me a soft, almost imperceptible nod, beckoning me to come his way. Am I overthinking this? What am I doing? These questions tumbled through my mind, but they were quickly drowned out by the buzz of the alcohol coursing through my veins. Before I knew it, I had grabbed my purse and was heading in his direction, my friends watching me with curious and amused expressions. “Looks like someone’s interested,” my friend whispered, nudging me with her elbow. “Go get him, Olivia!” one of them cheered, giving me a playful shove as I passed by. With each step, the noise of the bar seemed to fade, replaced by the sound of my own heartbeat echoing in my ears. When I reached him, he turned to face me fully, his smile widening. “Hi,” I said, my voice surprisingly steady. “Hi yourself,” he replied, his voice smooth and inviting. “Celebrating something?” “Yeah,” I said, feeling a rush of boldness. “I just got my dream job.” “That’s definitely worth celebrating,” he said, lifting his glass in a toast. “To new beginnings.” “To new beginnings,” I echoed, clinking my glass against his. The night blurred into a series of intoxicating moments, each one more exhilarating than the last. As we stood there at the bar, drinks in hand, he smiled at me with that captivating charm. “I’m Daniel, by the way,” he said, extending his hand. “Olivia,” I replied, shaking it. “I’m sorry, I don’t even know why I’m here. I don’t usually do this, but here I am,” I added, laughing a bit nervously. He softly took my hand and raised my chin, meeting my eyes with a reassuring gaze. “It’s alright to let yourself get impulsive sometimes. Besides, I’m enjoying the company,” he said with a wink. “Me too,” I admitted, feeling my cheeks flush. We started talking, and it was as if the rest of the bar faded away. Conversation flowed effortlessly between us, like we’d known each other for a long time. The more we talked, the more my attraction to him grew. I found myself unconsciously biting my lip, longing for a taste of him. His eyes flickered down to my lips, and I could tell he felt the same way. “Do you want to go back to my hotel?” he asked, his voice low and inviting. I nodded, unable to trust my voice to speak. Excitement and anticipation thrummed through me. I quickly went back to my friends, who were watching me with knowing smiles. “I’m going to follow him back to his place,” I said, trying to sound casual. They burst into laughter, clearly amused by my departure from my usual uptight self. “Go get him, Olivia!” one of them called out, waving me off. With a final wave to my friends, I turned back to Daniel, who was waiting with that same irresistible smile. We left the bar together, the cool night air hitting my skin and heightening my senses. We ended up at his hotel, our night together a mix of passion and connection that felt almost surreal. When I woke up the next morning, sunlight streaming through the curtains, I felt a momentary bliss—until I realized he was gone. “Seriously?” I muttered, spotting the neat stack of hundred-dollar notes on the nightstand. My initial shock turned quickly to anger. Did he really think I was that kind of girl? “Asshole,” I hissed, shoving the money unto the floor. Glancing at the clock, panic surged through me—I was running late for my first day. After a rushed morning routine, filled with muttered curses and frantic movements, I somehow made it to the office just in time. My heart was pounding as I smoothed down my blouse and stepped into the elevator, determined to make a good impression despite the chaos of the morning. The sleek, modern office was a stark contrast to the bar from last night. I approached the receptionist, introducing myself. “Olivia Thompson. First day,” I said, forcing a smile despite my nerves. “Welcome, Olivia. Mr. Williams will see you now,” she replied, nodding towards an office at the end of the hall. Taking a deep breath, I knocked on the door, my heart in my throat. “Come in,” a familiar voice called. I froze, hand hovering over the doorknob. No. It couldn’t be. I pushed the door open, and there he was—sitting behind a large mahogany desk, the same infuriatingly charming smile on his face. The same man from last night whom I can't even vaguely remember his name.........Daniel is it?
