Colliding heart 2

  "Carol can you hear me ?" I heard a fainted voice ,I could hear my name being repeated several times . Gradually, were some more sounds in the background,  a steady progression of beeps and blips , distant noise of rattling trolley. I could slowly see some light , a beam of light was penetrating my eyes almost making me blind . I was calmly trying to open my eyes and found myself lying on a bed, I could see a blurred image of 2 people staring at me and calling my name repeatedly. I was slowly coming back to my senses now I could finally see a clear image of everything around me . I saw a doctor and a nurse beside me , “Are you fine ? can you hear us ? ” , they asked . I wanted to answer them but I found it difficult to utter even a single word so I just nodded my head . I tried to get up from the  bed but I  was too weak to do that and fell back again . “Where am I ? ”  I asked in a feeble voice with all the energy I had , “You are in a hospital ,  you were brought here 2 days ago. You have not recovered yet so don’t be anxious and take it slow , everything will be fine!” saying this he gave me a smile and left me with the nurse . What ? 2 days ? what the hell happened to me ? and who took me here? My mind was a complete mess , I was trying hard to think about what happened but nothing came out of it except that my head started aching badly , so I tried to distract myself and started observing the room. It was a well equipped room with a beautiful panoramic window through which I could see a tree with some pretty pink flowers they were probably  Bougainvillea, there was also a white coloured sofa in the room , it was a place which I  definitely couldn’t afford . As I was thinking about all this , a nurse came in and handed me a glass of orange juice and was about to leave when I stopped her “Excuse me please” ,  I said , she turned over to me  , “Do you know who brought me here ?” , I asked with my weak voice , “Yes ! it was that gentleman” ,  she said pointing towards a man who was talking to the doctor at the door, I could only see his back , he was a man of average height with a nice physique , black hair and dressed in a simple jeans and shirt , “that man took you here 2 days ago and has been taking care of you every night and day ”,  the nurse said and left.    Looking at this man from back , he looks familiar , “no!” I told myself ” it can’t be him , he wouldn’t be taking care of me ! no! How can it be possibly him ! come back to your senses Carol it can’t be him “ I told myself . I was unknowingly staring at him and then slowly he turned his neck and I saw him . Those eyes , those beautiful perfect brown eyes are still the same , yes it was him . He was looking straight into my eyes , time seems to have frozen for sometime , we were both looking into each other’s eyes then to avoid the awkwardness I suddenly turned my head towards the window and starting looking out , I no longer knew what to think my head was completely blank for a moment . I couldn’t accept the fact that it was him and started thinking that “ maybe it wasn’t him , maybe it is someone who looked a little like him” I was still trying to process my thoughts when I heard a deep voice of a man “Carol” he said , standing right in front of me at the end of my bed , “Austin ? ” I said in a low and confusing sound . He smiled ,  and now there was no doubt it was him , I couldn’t understand that whether I should be happy or sad or angry nothing made sense at that moment . Then he came and sat beside me “how are you ?” he asked , there was complete silence “have you been any better?” he again asked and again there was only awkward silence . I was too stunned to utter a word and was only staring at him continuously trying to convince myself that it was him . He then put his hand on my shoulder and shook me which brought me back to my senses .”Are you okay ?” he again asked “where have you been ?” I asked , and trying to escape this conversation he replied “I think you should drink your juice”  the atmosphere was getting uneasy but I was adamant to know the answer to my questions “why didn’t you contact me ?” and as expected he didn’t answer it and said “ the doctor has said that you should take rest and eat well “ I was about to say something but was interrupted by a nurse . She noticed that  my glass of juice was still full and I haven’t even started drinking so she asked me to drink so that I can have my medicines after that she turns to Austin “would you also like to have anything ?“ she asked  him “yes , can I have a glass of starfruit and strawberry juice ”, “sure “ saying this the nurse left . Starfruit and strawberry juice , he is still the same , I remember how everyone made him try different juice flavors but still no one could change his obsession for starfruit and strawberry juice . I started  drinking my juice and at the same time was observing him ; he had a different hairstyle , earlier his hairs were rather plain and simple but now it has changed into an undercut . While I was still thinking about all these , the nurse already gave Austin the juice and now there was an awkward silence with both of us drinking juice. Finally breaking the deadly silence I asked him “why are you here ?”  before he could say anything the doctor arrived “you better get the  medicines because its almost time for dinner “ he said , Austin at once left the room and went to get medicines. Sitting in the room alone , I started thinking to myself “this hospital seems to be quite expensive why is he covering all the expenses ? how did he come at the moment when I needed someone the most? Did he came back for me ? “ but no matter whatever I think it’s only Austin who can tell the truth who doesn’t seem to be willing to tell anything. After some time , Austin was back with the medicines he kept them on the table and helped me to take medicine and then he said “if you want anything , just call me I will be outside” saying this he switched off the lights and went out. So much happened today that I could help thinking about it but I was gradually feeling sleepy maybe it was because of the medicines and before I know I was asleep . it was around midnight and I was suddenly awoke and wanted a glass of water , so I tried to reach the glass kept on the table which was at the right side of my bed , but the glass was quite far so accidentally I dropped the glass and there was a loud sound of breaking glass ; not long after this Austin hurriedly entered my room and switched on the light . I  could see expressions of terror and fear on his face , he ran towards me , grabbed both of my hands and asked in panic “ what happened carol ? do you feel unwell? Are you hurt ? do you need anything ? ” I was just looking at him , he was breathing heavily and was clearly  worried about me , he came for me in less than a minute  . I nodded “I just wanted a glass of water but it was quite far so it accidentally fell “ hearing this he breathed a sigh of relief and holding me tighter said “I told you that if you need anything just call me I will be there for you so from next time remember this , okay ?” I nodded and he gave me a glass of water. As he was about to leave I stopped him “I can’t fall asleep could you please accompany me till I am asleep and we can also have some conversation?” he gave me a smile and sat beside me .   It was very quite in the hospital , you could hardy hear any sound  . There was a cold atmosphere in the room which was accompanied by the unpleasant silence , finally breaking the silence Austin speaks “ Do you have any idea of how you met with that accident ?”.This startled me and I was anxious I had met with an accident ? I had  no idea but with an accident and this feeling of not being able to remember anything made me uneasy “ I didn't even remember that I had an accident. thanks for telling me”  I said and he immediately realised  I don’t remember anything and that he shouldn’t have mentioned it , a feeling of regret could be easily seen. “Carol , calm yourself down it is nothing to worry about I am right beside you , you are not alone , I am with you “. I smiled at him  and assured him that I don’t want be a trouble to him  anymore.  He smiled back and said “it's not a lot of trouble specially for an old friend.  this hit me hard,  I got totally nostalgic about had happened. suddenly my blood pressure shot up I was feeling nervous and hesitated I started thinking about what was between us. Austin was right there  on his phone. suddenly the monitor starts beeping and I could not sense anything properly , suddenly I started feeling short of breath , I started Losing my conscious. and there was a total blackout after a minute or two. I heard Austin shouting “carol be with me do not close your eyes  listen  to me”. I was all ears saying  I could hear him shouting “doctor there is an emergency she is Losing her senses I need someone to attend the immediately”. the doctors rushed in. the nurses were checking my vitals. I could hear the doctors saying “we are loosing her” i was about to die and then I got unconscious . When I woke up the next morning the first thing I saw was that Austin was sitting beside me holding my hand and the weariness and tiredness from last night could be easily seen on his face , did he stay awake whole night yesterday ? I started thinking. As I looked at him , he gave me a bright smile and asked “ are you all right now “ I nodded . “then get up and have breakfast” he said and was leaving the room “ did you stay up all night yesterday ?” I asked , to this he gave me a smile and said “I am bringing your breakfast “ and left .
