MIRA'S POV
I was taken out of the court accompanied by the guards as well as the jeering and the celebration of the Pack members.
Although they had wanted me to be executed, they could as well make do with a life imprisonment. My life was really going to be a mess from now on.
The barricade swayed all around me leading me to the black maria and just as I entered it before the door closed. I heard a soft voice call out to me.
“Mira.” It was very familiar so I turned around. I already knew who it was.
It was Judy. My older sister and… Issac.
I looked at them with so much resentment in my eyes. But at the same time I needed answers. I wanted to know why they set me up? What did they gain out of that?
How long have they wanted to put me away? All these questions filled my mind.
I wanted to look away but I stared hard at them. My heart hammered painfully in my chest and a lot of emotions filled my mind.
“We came to see you off,” Judy said, her tone calm sounding so caring like they hadn't just destroyed my whole life and dreams and sent me to my death.
I had a lot of things to say but I just swallowed hard and spoke up in a low tone. “Why… are you here?”
Issac’s eyes, cold and unreadable, met mine. “We wanted to make sure you understand everything,” he said.
Everything?
My wolf stirred violently beneath my skin. Something was wrong. I felt like they were about to reveal something heavy.
Judy leaned closer, her smile thin and cruel. Her voice was very low and barely anyone would make anything out of what she was saying. Only the both of us could hear it. “You should have been careful, Mira. You really thought you were untouchable, didn’t you?”
“I… I don’t understand,” I whispered. My voice was hoarse. “What are you talking about?”
Judy laughed softly, a sound that made my stomach twist. “We did it. Me… and Issac. We made sure you took the fall for Alpha Killian’s death. Every bit of it. You’re going to prison for the rest of your life, and you’ll have nothing when you get there.”
I blinked, trying to process her words. Nothing. Nothing?
“Nothing?” My voice rose. “What do you mean nothing? I was never dragging anything with any of you. I always loved you.”
Issac stepped closer, his hand resting casually on the railing of the black Maria. “Everything your parents left behind,” he said. “The mansion and the company. The inheritance all of it belongs to Judy now. We needed you to move out of our way and that was the best way so you’ll rot in that cell, wondering what happened.”
My head spun. “You… you can’t go to all that extreme just to get me out of the way.”
“Oh, but we can,” Judy interrupted smoothly. “You were never supposed to have it anyway.”
I froze. Her words hit like ice. “What… what do you mean?”
Judy’s smile widened, cruel and cold. “You’re not our blood. You never were. My parents picked you up during the Rogues War and took you in and cared for you, yes. But that was enough.” She paused for a moment as her face darkened with anger.
“But you were never a Carter. That inheritance? It was never yours. But you were included into the will. On what grounds?” Judy clenched her first.
Then she beamed a smile. Although now, thanks to a little… planning. She let out a sarcastic smile "you'll never lay your hand on the inheritance again or even think about it.”
I felt my knees weaken. My hands gripped the edge of the railing, trembling. My wolf howled silently inside me, full of fury and my heart hurt with betrayal.
“You… you were my sister!” I whispered, the words cracking on my lips. “You Issac! You’re my mate! How could you betray me like this?”
Judy tilted her head, her smile unwavering. “Betrayal? No, dear Mira. This is mine and I was just getting it back.”
Judy’s gaze didn’t waver. “You were always focused on your goals. Becoming a doctor and healing people? Laughable for you to think you had big dreams with the inheritance of my parents. You thought you had everything when you had nothing.
As I sat there staring at the both of them my blood ran cold.
I wanted to scream, to fight, to tear them apart with my hands but I couldn’t. The cuffs were tight. My strength… useless.
“Why didn't you just contest for the properties the legal way? If you were right you could have easily won.” I asked but Judy just grunted.
“This is how I wanted it.” She replied leaning closer.
My eyebrows pressed together as I wondered what happened to Alpha Killian. “What happened to Alpha Killian then?”
Judy leaned closer again, letting her words sink in. “Enjoy your prison, Mira. Next time don't mess with the wrong people.”
Isaac motioned to the guards that he was done here and they shut the doors. I sat there staring out the small window at the two of them.
I felt my chest tighten and my throat burned. My wolf inside me trembled, snarling, begging to be unleashed. But I was trapped, chained and also powerless.
I stared at them at Judy, the sister who I thought I had by my side and was willing to go any length for and Issac, we had known each other for a long time but the moment I discovered he was my mate. He betrays me and takes everything from me.
Everything.
The black Maria rattled along the cobblestone road, each jolt sending a shiver up my spine. My wrists still stung from the cuffs but the sting in my chest was far worse.
I kept my eyes down, staring at the floor, wishing I could disappear. The vehicle moved quickly and after a while we arrived at the facility and were handed prison uniforms.
When I arrived at the block I was going to serve the sentence everywhere was oddly silent. News had reached here too that someone murdered the Alpha and that was good to be my tag from now on.
“Alpha murderer”
*******
Ten years passed behind stone walls and iron bars and that was what I was referred to as. I was twenty-eight now, but prison had stripped time of meaning.
I was still the same girl filled with big dreams and beliefs but prison had ground them to the ground but my eyes were still filled with hope.
That was why the knock on my cell door that morning felt different.
“Alpha Reia Moonshine is here to see you,” the guard said, shaking me out of my thoughts.
“Alpha?”
