9-Confrontation

- Leyton’s POV - After Kayla insisted on going back to her room to catch up on her homework, I decided to look for Finn to discuss our Initiation ceremony in two weeks time. I’d try to broach the topic with Kayla another day. For now, I’ll give her some space. The Initiation ceremony was also Finn’s 21st birthday. As per tradition, he would take over the Alpha position from his father on the day he comes of age, and as his Beta, I’d be initiated together with him. If he found our Luna before or on the day of the Initiation ceremony, it’d help him become an even stronger Alpha and bring blessings to our pack lands. I wonder if Finn has been thinking about this. We were both guessing that our mates might be from our own pack since we didn’t meet our mates at school since turning sixteen, and all ranked wolves our age from North America went to our school. Seeing that Finn wasn’t at the main pack house, I figured he might be at the east wing and headed over to look for him. - Finn’s POV - Leyton came into the recreational room and raised an eyebrow at me as he saw me drinking a beer. “Isn’t it a little early for this? Besides, you’re not officially 21 until two weeks later,” he mused. I rolled my eyes and growled at him. I love Leyton like a brother but sometimes he really knows how to get on my nerves. And then it dawned on me that Leyton is Kayla’s adoptive brother. “Did you know that your adoptive sister is wolfless?” Leyton’s eyes widen and he quickly closed the door behind him. “She is my sister! Don’t you dare say otherwise to her!” He warned. I scoffed and said, “I said she’s wolfless and that’s what you have to say?” Leyton frowned and after a few minutes, he asked, “How did you know that?” “I overheard some kids talking about her. Forget it, you didn’t even know she’s mute until we came back yesterday.” Frustrated with Leyton and myself, I left the room and headed to the source of my problems, leaving behind a stunned and worried Leyton. - Kayla’s POV - I was trying to finish my assignment for biology when the door to my room flew open. Gasping in shock, I turned around in my chair and saw Finn in my room slamming the door shut. He smelled strange, like the fresh smell of the forest after the rain but mixed with something odd, pungent. My eyes widen and alarm bells went off in my head as he headed towards me and reached for my shoulders. He grabbed them and looked into my eyes. Being so close, I could smell the beer on his breath and the piercing glare from his green eyes made me feel uncomfortable. “Why? Why are you mute and wolfless?! What is wrong with you?!” He shouted at me. I couldn’t help but whimper at this sudden outburst. What does this have to do with him? I’m no one to him, why would he care? As his grip on my shoulders tightened, panic rose in me.
