10-Disgrace

- Finn’s POV -

Kayla stared back at me with those beautiful big brown eyes. They held so much fear and some confusion but nothing else. Realizing the lack of a wolf must leave her unable to recognize her mate, even if he was right in front of her. Anger rose at that thought until I heard her whimper, and immediately the anger went away, replaced by regret and an urge to hold her in my arms.

Damn the mate bond! I don’t want an undeserving mate like her but I knew that if I rejected her, it’d deprive my pack of a blessing unless by some miracle, I’m able to find my second chance mate in the next two weeks. Conflicted and frustrated, I pushed her away and turned around to leave.

The sound of Kayla falling back against the table was loud enough to make me pause in my steps. My wolf urged me to go to her and check if she was ok but I just wanted to leave. I closed my eyes and finally said to her, “Don’t tell anyone that I was here. I’m sorry that I lost my composure. This won’t happen again.” As I left the room and closed the door behind me, I could hear quiet sobbing and it drove me crazy with all the emotions it evoked.

- Kayla’s POV -

After cradling myself and thinking about my happy place for some time, I calmed down and went to wash my face. My shoulders were bruised now and I made a mental note to wear only tops with sleeves until they were gone. I’m still shocked by Finn’s reaction and I couldn’t understand why he said those things to me.

Then it dawned on me that my brother was the future Beta and I was almost raised by the Luna. I covered my mouth as I realized that perhaps the kids at school were right. I was a disgrace to my family and to my pack.. no one knew that I had a wolf and I couldn’t prove it. How could the future Beta have a sister like me?

Unable to make the negative thoughts stop, I decided to go to bed and let sleep take them away.
