11-Accident

- Leyton’s POV - Something was definitely wrong. After the strange conversation with Finn, I thought about what he said about Kayla and the bruises that I saw on her. Was she really wolfless? But I remember that Uncle Adam was one of our best warriors. Were the kids at school bullying her because she was wolfless? My blood boiled at that thought. I had to get to the bottom of this but maybe not today. I have to give her some time after our conversation in our secret hide out. The next morning, I decided I’d try to talk to Kayla again after breakfast. To my surprise, she didn’t come down for breakfast at all. I thought that maybe she had pull an all nighter as it was her last year in high school and her finals were coming up. At noon, I couldn’t wait anymore and went to her room to wake her up. I knocked but there was no answer, and decided to go in anyway. The room was dark and the curtains were still drawn but with my werewolf eyesight, I could see her curled up in the bed. Chuckling to myself, I closed the door and walked over to her. I sat down on the side of her bed and shook her shoulders. She groaned as if she were in pain and turned to face me. I frowned as she looked at me in surprise and then a smile spread across her face as she hugged my waist. I stroke her hair and asked, “What’s wrong Kayla? You’re not a kid anymore but that still doesn’t mean you can go to bed and get up at any time you want. What happened to your shoulder? Does it hurt?” She stiffened and then quickly relaxed again, shaking her head. She grabbed her phone from the night stand and showed me a message, “I had to finish my assignment. It’s for biology and I really need to ace it so that I can apply for the medical school. My shoulders are fine.” - Kayla’s POV - I didn’t want to leave my bed but I also didn’t want Leyton to worry about me. Without much choice, I dragged myself out of bed and went downstairs with Leyton to grab something to eat. I wasn’t hungry but I ate a little so that Leyton won’t ask me more questions. After lunch, we went outside for a walk. It was a breezy day and the sky was starting to look overcast. Then I heard a faint whisper in the air. It was trying to tell me something but I couldn’t hear it well. Forgetting that Leyton was with me, I walk towards a tree and placed my hand on it and then I could hear the voice loud and clear. “Go back inside, Kayla! There’s a storm coming and it isn’t safe here in the forest.” I knew better than to not trust my friends in the forest. I grabbed Leyton’s hand and pointed towards the pack house. He laughed and told me there’s nothing to be afraid of, reminding me of how we used to play in the rain when we were kids. I reached for my phone so that I could tell him this was different. To my dismay, my phone had ran out of battery. I grabbed both of his hands and started to drag him towards the pack house but he was so heavy and at this speed we’d never make it back in time. Suddenly, the overcast sky was lit up by a bright lightning. I crouched down in fear and Leyton reached down to hug me. “It’s ok, kid, hop on my back and I’ll piggyback you. Just like when we were kids,” Leyton consoled me. I nodded and was going to climb onto his back when a loud boom in my head said RUN! I looked up in horror as another lightning struck and hit the tree behind us. My body reacted before I could as I pushed Leyton away and tried to jump away from the falling tree at the same time.
