MONSTER IN MY BED

SURPRISE

Shawn woke up early as usual getting ready for work, he woke Jessie, gave her a bath and also prepared breakfast that they both are, after which he carefully arranged the breakable items and sharp objects far from Jessie's reach. Also all the sharp edges of the house which includes doors, cabinets, cupboards and even the floor were covered with a soft material to avoid injury to Jessie.

" Are you ready to go?" He asked as he bent down to her level in order to help her with her school bag, she replied with a smile and a light nod, Shawn immediately picked her up before carrying him bag, he turned on the locks on the doors before driving off. Shawn drop Jessie off at school at first, he got down and directly handed her over to her class teacher

" Remember Jessie, no rough plays, stay away from sharp objects and any little injury don't forget to tell the teacher, alright" he said waiting for her response.

Jessie was used to the morning lecture, she rolled her eyes with a smile before giving him the okay sign and walking off into her class, Shawn stood watching her as she walked into her class, before turning to her teacher

" Please ensure to keep an eye on her, I don't want her getting injured"

" Don't worry Mr Shawn she's in safe hands" she reassured before Shawn walked back to his car.

He drove straight to the hospital and decided to check on his grandpa, on getting to the room he didn't see him on bed but instead he met a nurse dressing the bed

" Good morning Nurse Daisy" he greeted

" Good morning Dr Shawn, you're here to see Mr Mark"

" Yes but in notice he's not here at the moment"

" That's right, he's in the ICU"

" What!"

" He was in a critical condition last night but he's all right now" she concluded, immediately Shawn heard he rushed straight out of the room to the ICU to see him, he opened the door to the ICU and saw him on the bed with an oxygen mask on him, he also had his eyes closed.

He walked towards him and opened the case note that was on the table in front of the bed and began to reviewed it in order to know what was wrong

" You know that confidential right?" a voice said from behind

" He's my grandpa" Shawn spoke still going through it.

" But he is my patient, I can sue you for that" the voice continued

" Why didn't you tell me any of this yesterday, Tracy?" He asked

" Well your grandpa insisted and said no one should call you, saying you just got off work and you needed to rest" she replied

" How could he do that"

" I think that's what is called caring, yes that's the word" she said giving him a smile

" You don't need worry, he'll be fine, he just needs rest. I assure you we are giving him the best treatment he can ever get" she added

" I know that but his stubbornness just pisses me off"

" Don't worry Shawn, I'll take good care of him, I know how much he means to you"

" Thanks Tracy, I appreciate it and next time please give me a call when something like this happens, I do not want to surprise like this next time"

" well that's not up to you, it's actually supposed to be decided by my patient, he said he didn't want to call anyone and we didn't call anyone, if it also requested not to call you next time I'm sorry to tell you that I wouldn't be calling you. you need to get out of your head and rest, stop worrying all the time your Jessie and your grandpa, they can take care of themselves" she advised

" I have to go now I have other patients I need to attend"

" Alright I'll see you to the door"

" There's no need stay and talk to him if that would calm you down a bit, I'm off" he nodded in response as he watched her leave

" You like her don't you" a voice spoke in a low tone Shawn turned around with rage

" Is this what you should be talking about right? now look at you"

" I'm fine my blood pressure only went up a bit but I'm alright" he said

" Do I look stupid to you I checked your file and you're getting worse" Shawn pointed out

" Tracy couldn't just keep a secret"

" So you're aware of everything that's wrong with you, do you have anything to say for yourself?"

" Yes, I do, alot as well, go live your life Shawn!, I'm a 75 years old man, who has lived his life to the fullest and here you're trying to save me. You need to get a life and have a partner that can help you take care of Jessie, I know it's not easy taking care of her on your own"

" And you think getting a partner will make life easy for me?"

" No but at your age I was already married to your grandma and even your mum got married at this age as well"

" Grandpa!"

" oh, I'm sorry, I'm just trying to drive a point home" Shawn took a deep breath

" we aren't going to be talking about this today, I need to go see my patients"

" alright go and do whatever you want to do but don't say I did not warn you"

" I have been taking care of Jessie since she was just a baby and I can still take good care of her and I do not need anybody's help or need to rely on anyone in order to do so now, if would only you receive your treatment you could spend time with her and relieve me of the stress, she's actually missing you a lot"

" I know that but I don't want her to feel my absence when I'm gone, I want her to get used to me not being around, seeing her sad just destroys my heart"

" There you go again, am trying to save you and you're taking nonsense"

" Let's face it Shawn, I'm not getting any better, right now I'm just waiting for death soon and I do not want to die in a hospital, I want to die with my family"

" Nobody is dying" Shawn spoke

" Yes I won't die until you are married, so hurry up and get me a daughter or a son in-law whichever you prefer, am not picky. I love you Shawn and I just want to see you happy, you've struggled enough on your own all these while, you need to be loved and taken care of, I don't want you to think about the past and let it hold You down. you need to move on with your life" he said with a smile.

'' So now please leave you're making me feel emotional which I am not on a normal day" Mr Mark added

" You are the only one talking about love not me"

" Oh I see, my bad" he said with a smiling face

" How about a hug?" He asked raising his eyebrows but Shawn just walked away

" He will never change and he wonders who Jessie takes after" he said to himself before closing his eyes to rest.

Shawn walked into the restroom washing his hands and then washing his face with water as the bad memories keeps flashing before his eyes, he stood staring into the mirror right in front of him and the only thing he could see was the image of the man he despised the most in his life, those were memories he wished could go down the drain forever.
