~ Song ~ When The Truth Hunts You Down - Sam Tinnesz ~ "Sybil."  I sucked in a breath my eyes glued to her white ones. They were terrifying.   "You brought me a gift." Her lips curled up as her eyes locked with mine. "How lovely."  Nicholas growled lowly. "No, I didn't." He said. "Change your eyes back, they're ghastly to look at."  Sybil smirked, shaking her head at Nicholas. I watched in horror and disbelief as her eyes slowly started to turn yellow, I had never seen such a thing.  "I'm going to guess you didn't find me to have some tea and a chat." Sybil said. "No."  "Well then." She stepped back. "Do come in."  Nicholas glanced over his shoulder at me before walking forward. I swallowed the lump of fear that had formed in my throat and followed closely behind him. I felt Sybils eyes fall on me and hesitantly looked up, her eyes were narrowed slightly, her smirk faltering.  Intrigue flashed through her yellow eyes before I turned away, unable to handle the pressure of her gaze. I glanced around the room, in the middle was a large cauldron, the large wooden spoon still stirring the contents.  A large variety of herbs were hung around the room, many I remembered seeing in my grandmother's garden. Her bookshelves were overflowing with books that looked worn and old, whether that be from aging or the disorderly way Sybil seemed to keep them.  "What creature do you have here Nicholas?" Sybil asked as she walked past us, clicking her fingers.  I watched as the wooden spoon stopped stirring. I glanced up to see her staring at me, a similar look to before glinting through her eyes. She was fascinated by me and it confused me.  "She's human." Nicholas answered in an unimpressed voice.  Her eyes flicked to his, an incredulous chuckle escaping her lips. "A human?"  I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering what words they were silently exchanging with their eyes.  "Do you truly believe that Nicholas?" She gave him a sickly smile, one laced with edge. "Sybil." Nicholas warned. "It was an innocent question." She said as she wandered to a table and took a seat. "One you didn't answer." "I ask the questions around here." Nicholas headed towards the table, grabbing my wrist and pulling me with him. "You answer them." Sybil chuckled. "Of course. I haven't forgotten our arrangement." Her eyes flicked to mine before returning to Nicholas's. "So why are you here?" Nicholas reached into his pocket, pulling the two silver daggers and placing them on the table. My body tensed at the mere sight of them, chills covering my skin. Sybil glanced at the daggers before quickly glancing at me.  "Where did you get these?" She asked cautiously, her eyes returning to Nicholas's.  "The witches used them to kill some vampires." He stated simply.  "Quite a dramatic way to kill a vampire." She murmured to herself but it reached our ears regardless.  She took the daggers in her hands, her serpent eyes examining every last detail. My eyes were glued to the daggers, especially the one that dropped out of the vampires head and landed at my feet. My fingers fumbled together in my lap, the force of the evil still ever present in my mind.  "You've taken these to Gerald?" Her eyes glided to Nicholas as he nodded his head. "I'm sure his conclusion is the same as mine. This dagger has been completely drained of the dark magic it was created and infused with. The other is intact."  "Yes he said that, what he couldn't say was why."  I shuffled uncomfortably in the seat, averting my gaze from the dagger and looking anywhere and everywhere else. I could feel Sybils eyes on me, studying my every move.  "Little mouse." It took me a moment to realise she was addressing me but when I did I slowly dragged my eyes to meet hers. "Why so squirmy?"  Her smirk made me even more nervous, I could tell she was reading me like an open book and I hated it. I glanced at Nicholas, the words that wanted to spill from my mind running through my eyes.  "Tell her Fairy."  I took a deep breath, chewing on my bottom lip. "I think it was me." I murmured, glancing up to see Sybils raised eyebrows. "The dagger, I.. it.. It fell from the head of the vampire I touched, after something evil surged into me."  "Do elaborate." Sybil said, leaning forward to show her attention was sorely on me.  I took another deep breath and tried to calm my heart. "This vampire, his corpse was pinned up on a tree, that dagger lodged into his head. When Nicholas left my side, I slipped into some sort of trance, at least that's what I think happened. I couldn't control my body as I stepped forward and touched a symbol that had been carved into his skin-"  "Do you remember the symbol?" Sybil suddenly asked, cutting me off. I nodded slowly. "Draw it for me."  She flicked her hand behind her, a piece of paper and pen flew out from a desk and landed neatly on the table directly in front of me. I hesitantly took the pen and began drawing the symbol, pushing the paper towards her when I was done.  "What is it?" Nicholas asked, his eyes glued to Sybils expression as she stared at the symbol.  Without answering, her hand shot out and wrapped around the other dagger. Her movements were fast as she stabbed the dagger directly in the middle of the symbol. A loud bang resounded through the cabin, black smoke exploding from where the dagger was stabbed into the paper.  I yelped and shut my eyes tightly. My body was thrown backwards from the force, landing on the cold ground with a small thud and a groan. When I realised that groan wasn't from me my eyes snapped open and meet Nicholas's red eyes.  I frowned at our position, Nicholas's arm was over my waist as he leaned beside me, obviously thrown from the chair himself. My eyes didn't remain on his for long as something else caught their attention. I stared at the controlled fire dancing in the middle of the table, surrounding the dagger and burning the paper the symbol was drawn on.  "Was that really necessary?" Nicholas asked, turning his head and staring at the flame.  Sybil glanced at us, smirking. "Your reflexes seem to have gotten slower Nicholas."  He growled lowly through clenched teeth before standing up, brushing himself off. He held out his hand and I took it gingerly, Nicholas pulling me from the floor as if I weighed nothing.  "Care to explain what the hell that was."  "As I suspected this symbol is magically reactive. This particular symbol represents a powerful unfailing weapon."  I could just see the light crease between Nicholas's eyebrows as he took in the information Sybil was giving him.  "That still doesn't explain why Faye was hit with all the evil and darkness in that corpse."  "It does." She answered simply, her eyes flicking to mine. "That isn't the only thing though. They added another part to the symbol, in full it says 'A powerful unfailing weapon that only one may obtain."  Her words weighed down on me, causing a crushing feeling to envelope my heart. I wasn't sure why I was having that reaction but it seemed as if her words were speaking to me, telling me something I never wanted to hear.  "A weapon.." Nicholas trailed off. "They're trying to get this weapon to fight against us. Do you think they already have it?"  Sybil shook her head. "I think they're trying to get it but this weapon must be treated delicately. However I do believe they've located it, this symbol was a taunt and a test."  My breathing had become shallow and I could feel my eyes becoming hazy. The flames slowly died out, leaving a dull aching in my shoulder.  "What do you mean?"  "Unfortunately I am forbidden to disclose any further on the matter. What is written in the prophecies must be read not said."  Nicholas growled, his patience snapping. He stepped forward threateningly but Sybil remained seated. She didn't flinch at his sudden outburst of anger, her eyes remaining impassive.  "Sybil." He warned.  "You're intelligent enough to figure this one out Nicholas but it appears something is blocking your judgement." Her eyes flicked to me for a second before returning to him. "You are ignoring a few very important details and until you recognise them, you'll be lost forever and undoubtedly lose this war." Her voice was unrelenting in severity, all humour that she held previously was gone, giving me chills.  His jaw twitched, an inner battle brewing in an attempt to hold back his frustration. His hand ran through his hair, tousling his red locks.  "You do understand what will be your outcome we fail this war?" Nicholas asked, his eyes dark.  "Put the pieces together Nicholas." Sybil said, her eyes as laden as his. "There is one common denominator in this all."  The room went silent. The air weighted with tension. Their eyes remained locked together, Sybil trying to convey her unspoken words. My eyes flicked between the two, my chest feeling heavy as a cold sweat covered my skin.  Nicholas's head suddenly snapped to the side, now staring out the window.  "Stay here."  I followed his line of sight, to Achlys who was shuffling her feet, her tail swishing wildly. Something was agitating her.  "Why?" I asked, fear evident in my voice.  "There's something out there." Nicholas walked towards the door. My hand wrapped around the chair, my knuckles turning white. I watched through the windows as he walked outside, grabbing the gun from his holster and surveying the area.  It took all the strength in my body not to get up and follow him. I didn't trust Sybil and although I didn't feel like she was a direct threat to my life, I felt safer beside Nicholas.  "I won't eat you little mouse." Sybil said in an amused voice, my body tensed. "Yet at least, you're an interesting creature." I turned around slowly and stared into her eyes. "What do you mean?" She leaned forward, her chin resting on her propped up hands. An arrogant grin marred her face making me feel uneasy. "I don't think your master would be too pleased if I elaborated." A sudden realisation hit me, I had a witch in front of me, one used purely for information. Nicholas was outside giving me the perfect opportunity to ask the questions swimming in my mind. Though there was the risk of her telling Nicholas. I stepped forward, staring into her yellow eyes. Her eyebrows rose at my action and the sudden confidence that flashed through my eyes.  "A witch, Kane, mentioned something to me but he was unable to finish his answer." I began, watching her expression.  "Kane." She chuckled. "What is a little mouse like yourself doing with a witch like him?"  "I helped Nicholas capture him. He wasn't impressed with my interference so he took me to his personal realm to taunt me."  Her lips curled up. "His personal realm?"  Something sparked in her eyes giving me an uneasy feeling.  "He said I had the ability to sense pure evil." I said cautiously. "What did he mean?"  "He wasn't lying." She said, leaning forward. "Your soul reacts to evil near you. I have never personally met anyone with the same skill you possess but I have read about it."  "What does it all mean?"  "You will figure that out in due time little mouse." She smirked, causing me to frown with irritation. "I think you've been around your master too much."  I ignored her comment and glanced over my shoulder out the window. I could no longer see Nicholas but Achlys was still swishing her tail.  "If I can sense evil, then how come being around master Nico doesn't affect me?" I asked the question I had been pondering since I found out.  Surely my evil radar would be going off. I didn't think you could get any more evil than Nicholas, though it seemed others wanted to prove me wrong.  "Your gift is to sense pure evil." I furrowed my brows at her answer, I knew that already. She chuckled at my expression and I suddenly felt foolish. "There is a difference between pure evil and evil little mouse. It would do you well in this world to learn the difference."  I pursed my lips and watched as her eyes left mine, trailing to my neck then to the golden necklace before returning back to mine. Silence consumed us as we engaged in a locked gaze, neither one of us pulling away as we both attempted to understand what lay behind each others eyes.  Sybil broke the silence, her lips curled up ever so slightly.  "There's something evil about you. Did you know that?" She asked, there was something lacing her voice that I couldn't comprehend. It left goosebumps over my skin, a chill covering my body like a blanket. Perhaps it was the veracity of her statement.  "It's coursing through your veins. I can feel it."  ~~~ Authors Note.
