I could tell this man was a vampire, his eyes were a dead giveaway but he had this certain murderous look about him too.
The man who kidnapped me hadn't actually looked up till now. "Master." He bowed his head. "I didn't realise who you were."
"Clearly." He stepped closer. "I see you're still capturing girls."
"It is my job after all."
"A job!" I scoffed, unable to help myself. "A job is working in a shop or building houses!" I glared at him. This amused the vampire.
"Do you want another kick!?" He raised his foot about to kick but the vampire cleared his throat.
"As amusing as this is, I'm on a tight time schedule. Patience isn't a vampires strong suit."
"Ah yes, What is it that you need?"
"Have you heard the humans talk about rioting against the vampires?"
The man smirked. "I have. There's about fifty odd I saw, they were in the village 50miles West from here, a couple weeks ago, recruiting more people."
"I see."
"Farmers with pitchforks I say."
"It's not the strength of the man that counts, it's the will." I said. My mother and father lived by that saying.
"Wise women." The vampire raised his brows at me. I think if he didn't say that I would have been kicked again. "The people are easily killed, it's the herbs they say they have that is the problem."
"I did hear about the herb. Wolfsbane, they were making it into a potion with help from a few witches apparently." The man had moved away from me by now. I pulled myself to a tree to lean against.
"So my suspicions were correct then." The vampire hummed. He looked back down at me, his eyes narrowed ever so slightly. "How much for the girl?" My eyes widened.
"I wasn't going to sell her yet."
"I was being polite asking for a price when we both knew I could very easily just take her." His eyes moved to narrow at the man.
The man looked at me, going over my features again. "She's pretty, but can't keep her mouth closed." He thought about it for a moment. The silence was dreadful, waiting to know what price I was going to be sold off to a vampire. "500 gold coins. No less."
The vampire reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small silk bag. He unwaveringly threw the bag at the foot of the man before he turned to me and knelt down. Reaching back into his pocket he pulled out a knife. I widened my eyes and tried to shuffle away but he grabbed hold of my bare ankle.
In one swift movement he cut the rope from my ankles. I instantly felt relief as the pressure that had been bruising my ankles left. His hand stayed on my ankle for a moment too long, his eyes locked with mine.
His lip curled into a smirk as he studied my eyes. His gelid eyes and expression had me frozen in place, he knew that. He stood abruptly and turned back to the man.
I rolled my ankles around and stretched my legs before I stood, using the tree as support, my hands were still bound together. Not only were my ribs aching, my head was pounding from being knocked out earlier.
My dress was covered in dirt and pine needles from the ground and I am sure my hair is a filthy and knotted mess. I winced as I took a small step, the vampire turned to me and started to walk.
"Let's go." I slowly hobbled after him. It was difficult keeping up with him, his walk wasn't fast but his strides were long compared to my small steps.
After 5 minutes of walking I noticed the vampire shortened his stride so he was just walking one step in front of me.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked in a quiet whisper.
"Where do you think?" Came his reply. He turned his head slightly to look at me.
"To hell?" I questioned sarcastically.
I was afraid of this man, he wasn't just a vampire but a royal one, but I still couldn't help being my usual sarcastic self. Royal vampires are strong and ruthless, especially to their pets or slaves.
I heard him chuckle as he turned his head away. "For you yes, but for me Faye, it's called my home."
"How do you know my name?" I furrowed my brows together. I haven't told him, the watcher didn't even know my name.
"Do you know my name?" He asked, he turned to face me once again, he had an arrogant grin on his face. I wanted to know how he knew my name, not many people did as I avoided everyone. "It's Lord Nicholas."
I thought about the name for a moment, I do believe I have heard some of the village girls gossip about him, however I never stuck around to hear much. His title assured me that he was indeed a royal.
"Lord, but you are not the Lord of Affaroan." I said, he found amusement in my comment.
"No. I chose not to, being the Lord means I can't carelessly kill people like I do now." He smiled which had sent chills down my spine, he wasn't only scary he was creepy.
He had stopped at a road and only then did I notice the horse drawn carriage parked up. The coachman jumped off the carriage at the sight of Lord Nicholas. He opened the door and Nicholas climbed in.
"Back home now." He said, I hesitantly climbed in after him. I knew I didn't have a choice, he was making it very clear with his little murderous comments that he won't hesitate to kill me.
How did I get stuck with a vampire? I took a seat opposite him and looked out the window. I closed my eyes and leant against the carriage, my head was hurting along with my ribs. I eventually fell asleep, I probably just lost consciousness again.
When I felt the carriage come to a stop my eyes snapped open and instantly met Lord Nicholas'.
"Well good morning sleeping beauty." He grinned. My eyebrows knitted together slightly, that's the second time someone called me sleeping beauty today.
I ignored his comment and looked out the window. There stood a large white marble mansion, there were six massive white pillars at the front. The door itself was massive, it was by far the largest house I had ever seen.
Nicholas got out of the carriage so I slowly followed, my gaze stayed on the mansion as I looked in awe. The gardens at the front were filled with colourful flowers and there were absolutely no weeds in there, someone looked after it well.
He strode towards the mansion so I followed him. There was a fountain in the middle of the driveway.
We walked up the five steps and the double doors opened before we reached them. A butler stood at the door and bowed his head at Nicholas.
"Welcome back my lord." He said formally. He spared me a single glance before taking Nicholas' coat and hanging it on a hook.
We were only in the entry room but it was spectacular enough. There was a red carpet that went from the door through to the hallways which made this place seem even more royal like.
There were statues in each corner and some potted plants. I didn't have much time to study everything as Nicholas had walked into the hallway.
The stairs were grand and went to the second story.
"Darling you're home!" A lady turned the corner, her eyes focused on Nicholas as she leant in and kissed his cheek. Is this his wife? "Oh who is this?"
The lady didn't look old but the problem was all Vampires looked young, even when they were centuries old. A boy appeared around the corner, he looked no older than me.
The lady wore a beige dress that had a diamond bodice. It was clear she had a corset under the dress.
"This is my pet." I heard Nicholas say. I hadn't realised until the boy narrowed his eyes at me, that I had my head raised and was looking at everyone. I'm lowly status to them, I shouldn't be staring but I couldn't help it.
"Oh my, what happened? Tell me you didn't beat her already." The lady looked at the sticky blood on my forehead, some had drizzled down to my eyes.
Already? What the lady said had me gulping in fear, I knew from stories that vampires pets get beaten often but the way the lady spoke about it made me more nervous.
"No mother. It wasn't me. She was knocked out by a watcher." By now I had averted my eyes to stare at my bare feet. So she's his mother, they did look somewhat alike.
"Mm, her blood smells sweet. Let me have a taste." The boy who has been quiet up until now had stepped towards me. I unconsciously took a step backwards which earned me a glare from the boy as he tried to reach me. Nicholas's arm came out in front of me as he stared at the boy.
"What part of 'my' pet, don't you understand." He emphasised the 'my'. "Get your own, they're not hard to find. The world is full of humans." This made me frown, humans weren't born just to be a vampires personal blood bag!
"Your father was wanting to speak." His mother said, changing the topic.
As I was looking down, my head pounded, it felt as if my heartbeat was in my brain. I stumbled back a step due to a dizzy feeling I felt. Nicholas noticed as his eyes turned to me.
"Doesn't he always." He said boredly. "I'm tired from my travels so If you'll excuse me." He said as he stepped around his mother. I followed slowly, the pounding in my head made it painful to walk.
We walked up the stairs and down two other halls before he opened a door and we entered.
His room was the size of my grandmother's house. He had a large king sized canopy bed, the covers were dark grey. The back wall was all windows, apart from where the bed was against it.
There was a door that led to a balcony. The floor was a dark wood while the walls were a light grey. The left wall was lined with bookshelves with a desk in the corner. There were a few paintings of old castles and landscapes on the walls.
The right wall had a large closet and a sliding door which led to a bathroom. Under the bed and covering most of the floor was a dark red rug, then the centrepiece of all, in the space where there was nothing by the back wall, there was a large black piano and a couch in the centre of the room against the back wall.
I continued to look around the room, my eyes widened.
"Sit on the couch." He said as he walked into the bathroom.
I slowly walked to the couch and sat awkwardly, I felt too poor and filthy to even have a thought about sitting on this couch. When he returned he had a small bag in his hand and a wet towel in his other hand. He knelt down in front of me, his hand reached for my face but I leant back.
"Either sit still or ill make you." He said, his lips curled up. "Your head needs to be cleaned or you'll get an infection and die." Being here was a death sentence anyway so what was the point, I thought to myself.
With one hand positioned on the back of my head so I couldn't move, he brought the wet hand towel up to my forehead and started wiping the blood. I winced in pain, I was pushed into that wall aggressively, that man probably had bruised my skull. Once he was down wiping the blood he leaned in closer to inspect the wound. Is he a doctor or something? Why is he trying to fix me?
"It would be a shame if my pet died the day I bought it, wouldn't it?" He said, my eyes widened slightly. Had he read my mind? His lips curled up again at my reaction.
While I had distracted myself with my thoughts, he had put a liquid on a cotton ball and placed it on my cut forehead. When the liquid had seeped in I pulled back.
"Ow that hurts!" I said and tried to fight away from him.
"I'm a vampire, I am much stronger than you. Stop resisting, it hurts because it's helping." He said and pulled me forward.
I stopped and stared into his eyes. They were scary but at the same time, I couldn't help but hold my gaze with him. His hair was a chestnut brown, it had been messily swept back which caused a few strands to lay on his forehead. His features were strong, he was definitely a handsome vampire, most are handsome anyway.
"Done." He said abruptly and stood. "Have a bath, you're covered in mud." I stayed sitting as I stared at him. "Are you a deaf girl?" He asked. I glared at him before I stood.
"In there?" I questioned as I pointed to the bathroom.
"Well you don't see a bath anywhere else do you?" I walked towards the bathroom but before I made it inside, his hand had caught my arm. "And Faye, you are my pet and I am your master. Start respecting me or you'll accept the same fate the other pets get." He said, his expression cold but his eyes even colder. I looked down and slowly nodded.
"Sorry, master." I said quietly.
I kicked myself mentally, how had I gotten myself into a situation where I had to call an arrogant vampire master.
His hand let go of my arm so I stepped into the bathroom, I pulled the sliding door until I couldn't see his room anymore.
Nicholas was a scary vampire, there was no doubt about that. He gave off the feeling that he would break your neck at any moment he pleased, he was like a boy who wasn't disciplined and spoiled.
Once the bath was filled with warm water, I stripped off my dress and slid in. It felt so nice to submerge my body in the warmth or the water. At my grandmother's, the water was always cold so bathing times were quick.
Then I remembered, my grandmother's house. What is going to happen now? I hope the villagers won't knock the house down once they realise I left, well I was taken. All my grandmother's stuff in there that I wished to keep, all my stuff, the few things of my parents I was left with. My necklace my mother had made. I must find a way to escape and return to my home.
I sank into the water, I held my breath as I fully submerged my head. I washed my body and my hair, the yellow tinge had now gone. There was already a large purple bruise that hugged my right ribs.
I wrapped the towel around my body, unsure of what to wear. I didn't hear any movement in the room so I slowly opened the door to see the room empty. There was a simple black dress on the bed, one that the slaves wore, it was dusty and smelt like it was kept in a cupboard for decades.
Once I had gotten changed the door opened and Nicholas walked in. He instantly spotted me standing by the window. His eyes studied me before he walked over to his desk.
