~ Song For This Chapter ~ Ruelle - Nothing Is As It Seems. ~ (Mainly for the second half of the chapter.) I stared at the witch as he was being dragged to the carriage, he wasn't struggling but I wasn't entirely sure if that was a good thing or not. Nicholas stood a few feet away talking to Cason and Clara, I couldn't hear a word of their conversation, whether that be from my lack of interest or their hushed tones.  The witch was being dragged past me, his eyes on the ground until he suddenly snapped his head up. He lunged forward quickly, too quickly for me and even for Nicholas to notice. His hand wrapped around my wrist and I stumbled forward from momentum. His eyes were locked on mine as his grip around my wrist tightened, my own eyes widened. I gasped as I felt a shock of energy or something, shoot up my arm and through my body.  "I never believed in that prophecy but I guess it was true." He said as he shook his head in disdain, his voice bitter and murderous. "You are a traitor."  Nicholas was beside me in a second, ripping the witch away from me but his eyes remained locked with mine until he was pushed into the carriage by the guard, a sardonic smile on his lips as he went out of view. I continued to stare at the carriage, my heart beating wildly and my mind reeling at his words.  What prophecy? Me a traitor? "What did he mean?" Cason asked from behind me.  I snapped my head up and stared at Nicholas who was already staring at me. "That's a good question." He said.  My chest tingled with a strange feeling. My wrist ached from his harsh grip, a small red mark forming already. If there weren't already enough questions looming over my head, I didn't need more answers to seek. Nor did I need more things for Nicholas to get suspicious over.  "Was he talking about one of the ten prophecies?" I asked, my voice quivering.  Nicholas's eyes narrowed on my own. "It's a possibility but those weren't the only prophecies written."  "They weren't?"  What prophecy that was written had something to do with me? I just couldn't fathom how it could all make sense, how was I a traitor?  "How does she know about the prophecies?" Cason asked, his tone clipped with agitation.  "I told her." Nicholas stated nonchalantly.  "You seem to tell her far too much Nicholas."  He shrugged. "I'll have to disagree. There are many things I haven't told her."  He smirked at me, his eyes twinkling devilishly. I pursed my lips, my eyebrows set in a frown, unable to shake the heavy feeling I had.  "Do you know where these other prophecies are?" I asked.  Nicholas stared at me for a moment before answering, the smirk vanishing from his face as if it was never there.  "No." He answered. "Nor am I aware how many there are. Most prophecies are hidden away by the magic infused in them, never meant to be found."  "Why write a prophecy for it to never be found?"  "I do not have the answer but there is one. When it comes to the many questions regarding the witches there are always answers however those are the answers hardest to find."  Perhaps not if I had a witch. A witch could shed light on everything but finding one would prove difficult, getting those answers even more so.  "Do not be getting any foolish thoughts Fairy. The witches may have answers but they come at prices, prices far too steep for someone like yourself."  His eyes hardened but I needed answers. I needed them before Nicholas found them. I had no idea what those answers may be but I had a gut wrenching feeling to find them before anyone else could. I knew Nicholas had the ninth prophecy but to make sense of it I needed the eighth and tenth, perhaps those ones could help me find the others.  "I think that was enough fun for one night." Clara said, her soft voice lightening the energy surrounding us.  "Yes I suppose it was." Nicholas said, his eyes remaining on mine for a few seconds before he turned his attention towards Clara and Cason.  "I will speak to you later." Cason said to Nicholas.  Nicholas nodded his head before Cason and Clara walked off to the carriage beside the one holding the witch. The night was still active, everyone dancing to the music inside, they had no idea what had just gone down. No idea of the threat hovering around them.  "Lets go Fairy." Nicholas said, glancing down at me.  I nodded my head and followed him back to the carriage. Once I was sitting in the seat across from Nicholas, the exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks. All the dancing, the chills and the witch entering my mind, it all drained me but I was too distracted to let it crash down onto me. Now I was helpless against the weight of my exhaustion.  I closed my eyes and breathed out an unsteady breath. Those greens eyes haunted my mind, a stain unable to be erased. I unconsciously rubbed my wrist where the witch grabbed me.  "Does it hurt?" I opened my eyes at the sound of Nicholas's voice.  I glanced down at my wrist. "A little." I murmured.   "He called you a traitor." He started, his heavy eyes locked with mine. "Do you know anything about that?" I shook my head quickly. "No. I don't know what he was talking about." I said. "I swear Master."  His eyes narrowed ever so slightly, my heart drumming loudly in my chest. I wondered if the witch knew Karter and he had told him who I was. Perhaps that's why the witch didn't seem surprised at the ambush, maybe he thought I was there to help him kill Nicholas. I couldn't be sure unless I got answers and I'm betting on that prophecy having those answers.  "You won't find the prophecy he mentioned." Nicholas said as if he read my thoughts.  "I.. I"  "You don't have the resources nor the skills." He leaned forward. "Fortunately I do."  I stared at him silently, my eyes widening at his words. Was he saying he would help me? "What?" I asked, my mouth agape.  He smirked at my expression, leaning back in his seat taking up a nonchalant demeanor.  "Whatever that prophecy is about, its connected to you somehow. I want to know why just as much as you do." I blinked a few times, not believing his words. "Besides I'm already on the hunt for the ten prophecies, why not find the others?"  "You'll help me?" The words stumbled from my lips.  "Oh no Fairy." He said shaking his head. "You'll be helping me. I'll find that book but your future depends on what's written in it. If I find out you have some tie with the witches, you won't have a future."  The smirk was no longer playful but deadly. Of course, Nicholas wasn't doing this for me, he was doing it for himself. So he could figure out the truth and decide if I should live or not. Either way I was a deadman and I'd rather know the truth before descending into my grave. If Nicholas could find that book then all I'd need to do is read the truth before him.  "Fine." I said. "But I don't."  His fangs peaked out from behind his lips. "We'll see."  For the rest of the carriage ride we sat in silence. The silence was agony, I was on edge waiting for the snakey whispers and chills to return and though they never did, the uneasiness stayed. The moon was high in the sky when we reached the house, my tired body barely managed to stumble up the stairs to Nicholas's bedroom.  I got cleaned up and changed, regretfully taking off the beautiful dress and slipping back into one of my slave dresses. When I settled on the couch the crackling of the fire filled my mind with images of the witch. I became saturated in the fear I felt as I stared at the flames dancing their death dance in his hands.  Nicholas sat in bed, the only light in the room coming from the fire. I pulled the blankets up to my chin and stared into the hypnotising flames, my body unable to be warmed by them, until I eventually succumbed to the darkness of sleep.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ White. White was all I could see, a blinding glowing white. It encircled me, not a glimpse of an escape route to be seen. The walls appeared to be closing in, inducing a fear of being confined and suffocated. My heart was drumming against my chest, the only thing to keep me company. I had no idea where I was or why, nor did I know how to escape.  My body crawled with chills, those familiar icy shards covering my arms. I wrapped my arms around myself in an attempt to stay warm and fend off the chills. I took a few cautious steps forward, my eyes scanning through the emptiness in search for anything.  White was the colour of light yet I felt trapped in the darkness. The total emptiness was haunting, chilling my body to the bone. I wanted to scream out but I couldn't find the will to, my lips were glued shut. I glanced around, spinning in circle after circle as if something would appear. Surprisingly something did however it was the last thing I wanted to see.  A gasp left my lips as my eyes locked with the green ones that plagued my mind. I stumbled backwards, my body shaking with fear.  He smirked at my expression. "Hello Orphea."  "How do you know my name?" My voice shook as I spoke.  "You doubt my skills far too much." He shook his head. "Figuring out your real name was a simple task once I realised the truth. After all, who else could you be?"  My heart was drumming against my ribcage, my breaths unsteady. "The truth?"  He snickered. "Oh yes. Wouldn't you love to know it."  "Where are we?" I asked, my hands shaking at my side.  I had no idea how he was here when he was suppose to be locked up by the vampire council. I didn't even know how I was here.  "We are in my personal realm if you will." He said as he sauntered towards me. "I created it many years ago, I can travel freely here and bring others too."  "You created it?" I asked, he nodded his head. "Why did you make it completely white?"  He grinned wickedly at my question. "Well witches are the light bringers, gods children. We are the white light."  I scowled. "You're nothing but darkness."  "Oh?"  "You don't have a shred of holiness in you, all I can feel from you is complete evil." I spat, anger boiling inside of me.  "Quite the skill you have there." His hand burst into flame, sending fear racking through my body. "The ability to sense pure evil, though I suppose it is who you are after all."  His presence repulsed me, making me feel physically sick. Whether that was the evil floating around him or simply him, I had no idea.  I sucked in a deep breath, attempting to steady my heart. "What do you mean?" I asked.  "You're rather rude for someone who wants answers from me." He smiled as he watched the flames dance around in his hand.  "Why did you bring me here then?"  "For some fun. You are the reason I was captured after all. You were suppose to stay  unconscious until I killed Nicholas but of course you didn't. Not to mention you extinguished my flames in the most disparaging manner." His eyes locked with mine, triggering alarm bells in my mind. "But don't worry, I'll get over it. My flames however, now that's another story. They were very hurt by it."  The emphasis he put on 'very' made my blood run cold.  My eyes widened as a flame rose in the air, hovering over his hand and the rest of the flames. Despite having no eyes, I could feel it staring at me with a force that almost had me on my knees. I had no time to react as the flame darted towards me, my body frozen as the small flame ball slammed into my shoulder.  I gasped in pain as I went flying back, falling to the ground with a loud thud. My shoulder stung, the flame searing my skin as if it was a piece of steak. I winced painfully as I glanced at my shoulder as the blood began to trickle down my arm.  "Oh dear. Sometimes they have a mind of their own." The witch smiled. "I guess you don't have any water buckets here. How unfortunate, that looks like it hurts."  I glared at him, I was filled with fear but also rage. Those two feelings were internally battling with each other, trying to decide who'll take control, flight or fight. I hated his smug expression, he was in control here and I was simply someone along for the ride. I had no idea how to leave this grim place.  "I had to." I said. "I hate vampires too but for the very reason I dislike you. I hate their evil and murderous ways, even though you are a different species you're acting the same. That's why I had to help them capture you."  "How virtuous of you." He grunted. "But I have decided I'll answer some of your questions."  My eyes widened. "You will?" My tone held skepticism as I remembered what Nicholas said. Witches will answer questions for a price, never for free. "Why?"  "I realised the truth would torture you far worse than being kept in the dark. That's why they did it."  My heart skipped a beat at his words, becoming an uneven and erratic beat. He was filling my mind with more questions but I didn't trust him for a second.  "You mentioned a prophecy." I said warily. "As if it had something to do with me?"  He nodded his head, his grin hadn't faltered once. "There is a prophecy written about a being who is equally connected to life and death."  "And what does that have to do with me?" I asked, fighting off the chills and pain from my shoulder.  "Now that would be too easy, wouldn't it?" He chuckled.  "You said you'd answer my questions."  "I said some." He corrected me, taking on a tone as if he was scolding a child. "All in due time my dear Orphea."  I scowled at the use of my real name. It brought on a strange feeling I didn't like. "How did you bring me here?"  "I placed a link on you."  "What?"  My mind flashed back to when he had lunged for me and grabbed my wrist. I glanced down at my wrist that now had a bracelet of black words in witches tongue.  "It was easy enough putting the link on you." He said. "But it was rather troubling connecting with your mind and bringing you here. Whatever they did to block it out, it worked well."  My eyebrows furrowed at his words. "Block what out?"  He chuckled dryly, staring at me as if I was an imbecile with no knowledge and I was beginning to feel like one. It was always question after question with me now. I was so in the dark about my own life.  "Certain spells have restrictions." He snapped his fingers and the flames were gone, easing some of my nerves. "This certain spell could only work if... you..."  His voice began to be muted out, I could see his lips moving but I couldn't hear what he was saying. A harsh headache hit me and I gasped out.  Faye. The witch stared at me, he seemed to know something was happening. I could hear someone calling my name but I was desperately trying to cling to the witch. He had the answers I needed, the ones that my life depended on.  "No." I growled out harshly, fighting the headache and strange weight on my body.  "Faye!?"  The witch smiled with mirth, he knew I wanted those answers. He was enjoying whatever was happening to me.  "No. No!" The witch slowly began to disappear along with all those answers I needed. I gasped in pain as my body gave up on clinging to the witch, I couldn't take it any longer but I didn't want to let him go. "No! Come back!" I screamed out but he was gone. I could feel my body shaking as my vision became clouded by darkness. I could hear heavy breathing and feel someone's hands on my shoulders. My eyes snapped open and instantly met Nicholas's. He was the reason I lost my chance at learning the truth?  "What happened?" He asked as his eyes scanned my face.  My top lip twitched as something warm tickled it. I reached up and placed my finger under my nose, pulling it away to see it stained with blood. Nicholas handed me a handkerchief which I gratefully placed under my nose to stop the blood.  I stared into his eyes, debating whether to tell him the truth. Usually I would but something inside of me changed, I was worried I'd be in danger if he knew so I lied.  "It was just a nightmare."
