Cameron cracked open a beer and they all headed to the living room. He noticed Courtney’s hair was freshly washed and cursed mentally. Anyone would make the conclusion that they had done something when they hadn’t.
“So Lilly, you and Aaron?” She wiggled an eye brow at the two as she moved closer to Cameron.
The blush that spread over Lilly’s cheeks had his heart sinking. He wanted to kick Courtney and Aaron out of his apartment.
“Uh, no, we just had lunch together.” Her cheeks deepened in color.
“Oh! A date? You two would be cute together.” She smiled. “By the way, do you have a dress for tomorrow night Lilly?”
“What’s tomorrow night?” Aaron glanced between the two females.
Cameron sat silently, his anger rising. He started slamming back his beer in attempt to take the edge off.
“We’re going to Medusa’s.” Courtney rolled her eyes. “You can be Lilly’s date.”
With the rest of the beer drained, Cameron’s hand came crushing down on the can. He abruptly stood up and headed to the kitchen. He discarded his destroyed can and grabbed another.
“He’s pouting because he doesn’t want to go.” Courtney scuffed.
“How’d you manage that? He hates that place.” Aaron’s astonishment could be heard.
“Lilly convinced him.” Courtney, smug as ever and acting proud. “I guess you can come too Aaron. Now back to what I was asking before I was rudely interrupted.” She dramatically sighed. “Do you have one?”
“I didn’t realize he hated it.” Lilly soft voice filled with guilt.
Don’t feel too bad you still owe me, Cameron thought. A wicked grin spread across his lips and made him feel a bit better.
“He’s being a baby, don’t worry about it.”
“Unlike you, Courtney, Lilly actually cares about other people.”
“None of you ever care about me!” She snapped back.
“I do have a dress.” Lilly butted in. “I think I need some shoes though. Could you show me the best place to go?”
Lilly strikes again, smoothly deflecting conflict like a ninja. He rejoined everyone, this time standing by the couch instead of sitting next to Courtney again.
“Yes, girl! Shoe shopping is my favorite! We can go right now!” She squealed.
“Oh, okay.” Lilly was hesitant but got up.
“We’ll be back later!” Courtney’s voice giddy with excitement.
“We’ll be here.” Aaron’s eyes on Lilly as they left.
Cameron eyed his friend whose attention was back on the TV. He wasn’t sure how to bring up what was going on between Lilly and him. He had no right to ask. He could claim he was being a protective best friend but that might not sit well with Lilly.
Jaxon came strolling in before Cameron mustered up the balls to say something. He decided to give up and relaxed with the guys. He kept glancing at his phone and wondering when they would be back.
Four hours later, the pair loudly returned. Courtney fully of life and Lilly appearing half dead. Courtney carried multiple bags in each hand while Lilly had about three.
“What the f**k, don’t bring all that s**t in here.” He groaned when Courtney dropped all her bags on the floor.
“I wanted to show you what I got!” Her voice bubbly.
“Definitely don’t want to see.” He turned his back to her.
“Come on, I bought some sexy stuff.”
“Nope.”
“I did, too.” Lilly’s angelic voice added, a blush on her cheeks.
Suddenly all three guys had their eyes on her.
“Seriously?” Courtney glared at them. “I get no reaction and flat out refusal but you all act like pigs around her. We’re not showing you guys anything now. Come on, Lilly, let’s go to your room.”
Lilly shrugged and followed the annoying blonde into the second bedroom. Jaxon pouted, Aaron seemed unfazed, and Cameron’s stomach growled.
“Lilly!” He whined, his voice carried down the hall. “Will you make dinner?”
“She cooks for you?” Jaxon pouted more. “How come you get all the good girls?”
“First of all, you’ve been with way more girls than I have. Second, I only have one good one.” Cameron stood up to stretch his legs.
Lilly came out a moment later, her eyes drifting over everyone and landing on Cameron.
“Is there enough food for everyone?”
“f**k them, they can all leave.” Cameron was joking but his voice came out a tad harsh.
“Ouch! Asshole.” Jaxon acted as if he was shot through the heart with an arrow.
“I gotta get going anyway, my dad is visiting me tomorrow.” Aaron stood up and tossed his can. “Lilly, lets have lunch again sometime.” He winked at her. “See ya.” He held a hand up as a goodbye to everyone.
“You had lunch with him?” Jaxon’s puppy dog eyes on full display. “Damn, I wanted to be the first.”
“Both of you need to back off.” Cameron scowled.
“Fine, fine! I’ll see you guys tomorrow night.” Being a club goer, Aaron had mentioned the plan to him.
“Two gone, one to go.” Cameron mumbled to himself.
He heard Lilly snort and peered down at her.
“What’s so funny?” A smile spreading across his face and he moved closer to her, his hands reaching out to grasp both sides of her hips.
“Nothing.” She grinned. “What do you want me to make?”
“Whatever you can.”
Someone cleared their throat.
“Cam, can I have a word with you?” Courtney’s eyes on the way Cameron was holding Lilly.
“No but you can leave.”
“Be nice!” Lilly scowled and moved around him.
He heard the fridge open followed by the clatter of pans and the ticking sound of the stove being lit. He turned to Courtney and noticed an odd expression on her face.
“She comes and suddenly I’m nothing?”
“You were a booty call, nothing more.” He sighed.
“Which stopped happening when she came around.” She narrowed her eyes.
“Out of respect for my roommate, now leave.”
She stared him down, not buying what he was saying but didn’t argue it. She stomped down the hall to grab her bags and left in a huff.
